Poor pay

Thereal-john:
I was offered a job last week working for eddie stobart, on his biggest contract pulling for tesco.
I had my driving assessment and interview at their all new driving school in widnes, was given all the shcpeel on the company etc, then I was shown the rates, let’s just say if I was ever gona work for tesco, it wouldn’t be as a driver but a shelf stacker!
£7.75 an hour with NO overtime rate. Apparently the drivers turned down an overtime rate in the interest of fairness!
My arse!

there is a o/time rate and its graduated, the more hours you work the less you earn
i.e
7.75x10=77.50 +13.00+5.00=95.50div by 10=9.50 p.h
7.75x15=116.25+13.00+5.00=134.25div by 15=8.95 p.h :wink: :stuck_out_tongue:
the bit about turning down a o/t rate is ■■■■■■■■,we were asked if wed do a rota of drivers they could call instead of agency as it costs too much for agency, they were asked[or bloke was] for a o/t enhancement, answer was basically no,so it was thanks but no thanks fom most.
but me,i dont care what hourly rate is,o/t rate, sunday rate, night rate, all i care about is what i earn at end of week, its mostly high 600,s,700,s or if i really cane it 800,s so thatll do me for what i do,we all want asda, tesco wages but im afraid for some its not possible at moment so just make besst of what youve got

And the £13 is tax free so that bumps it up a little  ( every little helps) I have not cleared less than £500 a week in the last 2 months and here up north that’s like a lottery win for most people

Pat Hasler:
If any company doesn’t pay overtime after 40 hours don’t work for them, it’s the first sign of a rotten company.

Well. Mine don’t. We are on flat rate. But we are paid 24/7 when we are away, so we get more than many Stobart drivers

There are no cracks to paper over here, because it’s just a gaping hole that needs filling in. Stobart’s are poor in every respect imo and for me personally I would rather stack shelves for £6.80 than work ‘on the books’ for them. LTD Co Agency different story. . . .

Shelf stackers are on about £6.80 per hour, 36 hours is full time. You’d be lucky to do more hours than that as a shop floor worker.

Arrr, but the real question here is, is a ‘Truck Driver’ or the job itself only worth a mere 95 pence per hour more than a shelf stacker?? By that definition (shelf stacker is unskilled) an HGV Driver is barely semi-skilled. That’s how Stobart view their Drivers, plain and simple, or so it would seem.

Well, let’s see, shelf stacking is back breaking work, driving a truck really isn’t (unless you get a Haxor).

95p per hour * 36 is around 35 quid a week more, BUT you’d then do more hours driving a truck which = 35 + overtime MORE per week.

Then you get a bonus and a meal allowance which is MORE again.

If you want to earn £244.80 per week BEFORE tax and stoppages, go and stack shelves

Say goodnight to the troops Gracie. . .

A friend of mine started at Stobarts this year out of Crick and is on £7.50 per hr, Im not sure about O/T and if there is any rate. He does a good 60+ hours a week and something like every third saturday. Its not a great hourly rate but because of how many hours he does it brings in a pretty decent weekly wage. I remember him saying they have a bonus, it may have been to do with how much fuel they use. He`s enjoying the job but I think the hours take some getting used to

This is all getting very boring now. People go to work because they have to, not because they want to. When you go for a job, if you are offered it, you either accept the rate of pay or decline the offer. Its a very simple concept. If you are lucky enough to have a job that you enjoy and are happy with the pay, its a big bonus. At the moment i’m working for slightly less money than i’d like but I really enjoy the work. If something comes up at some point that suits me, I might take it, thats how it works.

I can’t understand all the moaning, as far as I remember, nobody ever put a gun to my head over wages etc.

If you want to stack shelves or sweep the roads, go and do it, i’m sure nobody will put a gun to your head either

You could get two shelf stackers jobs and do 72 hours a week and earn what Ady earns! :stuck_out_tongue:

And as an example of what can be had the last time I saw Aldi advertising for stackers, and it was some time ago, the rate was £8.50 p.h.

In Glasgow.

Well, 72 hours is what many drivers do per week, while including waiting etc. And they therefore have much less per hour…

I have to tell though that driving job is much easier and much less boring than stacking (i did it on few occasions).

Ady 1 how many hours are you at work when you earn £700 to 800 , …how long are you out the house…do stobart drivers get a rise each year or do they come up with an excuse that they have nothing.

1/ 70/80 hrs p.w

2/if i do 2 a.m-5 p.m ,i get up at 1 a.m and get back in house appx 5.45 p.m[depending on traffic etc]

3/dont quite understand last  ,but we had a pay rise this year of 40%+[fuel bonus up from £3.50-£5.00+2% on basic],+complete new uniform including latest raleigh jacket     .

that means you got about 7hrs 15mins sleep if you use all your time home for that…

I think I prefer my work - I am away for a week, and then I have another week with two or three easy local jobs (out 8:00, back 15:00).

Yeah, it’s similar to my work, except that I have my waiting in Norwegian Fjords, Swiss Alps, Old Vienna, Fiat Museum in Torino etc… And I drive small van so I can drive it virtually everywhere…

I wasn’t willing to drag who’s job is better, just what you wrote made me even more happy in my job. As I was worried that I spend a lot of time away from home, but if I was coming home only to get some sleep, I prefer to sleep away from home and be paid for it

I see you are happy in your job, that’s great too! Everyone’s to his own tastes
