Poor pay

after working for a couple of years (on agency) for stobarts i moved to the seaside and now do stack shelves for a living and run a till and general shop duties. I LOVE IT knowing what time i am finishing,do a couple of deliveries here and there in the van.i do get a little nostalgic about all the years i used to drive but think about all the long shifts and traffic jams and can you just do this on your way back and i think sod that for lark.used to do 60 hours now do 16 (free dental, free prescriptions,no poll tax,no wages tax) and loads of time to watch the kids grow up.

Reading this thread with interest, though I no longer drive a truck myself. We were always paid on earnings (27% on a six wheeler and £40 per day flat if no work) is EVERYONE now on a hourly rate of pay or are some companies still paying a percentage of earnings? Just interested that’s all.

Pete.

a percentage of earnings on the tippers round these parts is still common pete

if money was my favourite thing I wouldn’t be a dirty stinking fat lazy lorry driver

A lot of valid points raised. makes you wonder what the unions role in forging a better standard of living and campaigning for a pay rise that reflects the cost of living For members that expect to have a decent wage and not abused by its employer

I might be wrong but I think incentive based pay schemes or bonusses in haulage are now illegal as it compromises road safety

I they haven`t told my boss that. 50% of my wages are made up of milege, drop bonusses and incentive bonus. More drops and milege I do the more a earn.

the good old goverment will make up the money its called tax credits only if you have children though
only work 16hrs a week£300 tax credits one less unemployed satistic

i hear what ya saying joe but there’s more to the job than you think,it aint just driving round arm out of the window eating an apple, lot of stress involved specially if you take a wrong turn and wander what you’re heading into further up the road or having to go five miles to turn round.

it’s all about what you want out of life !!!

I must be doing the job wrong then because “arm out of the window eating an apple” and not getting stressed when I’ve taken a wrong turning pretty much sums up my past 3 weeks of driving. The job is what you make it. Find the type of driving work you enjoy and you’re sorted. It’s money for old rope once you get your stall set up how you want.

This^ The only stress in this job is self inflicted.

I am very well paid for the hours I work.

i have a ■■■■ job…salaried…25k 466.96 before tax for 50-60 hrs a week…■■■■■ around by a planner who cant use a tracker and is on the phone 6-7 times a night…12 hr nights regulary planned…the company has just had to take a voluntary credit arrangement.no pay rise for a long time :unamused:

Although im happy with my pay, im still working for the same rates as in 2006. :open_mouth: and that ■■■■■ big time considering how much everythings gone up, food prices doubled. fuel etc. :frowning: Its the same everywhere, wages frozen for drivers. Its hard to see that changing anytime in the next few years. In the meantime food and fuel will continue to go up.
