We all knock the French, but they wouldn’t take it.
French truck drivers haven’t done any meaningful action for about 10 years after they were threatened with loss of their licences if they tried blockades or convoi escargot.
So who blocked the fuel depots then?
As at Stanlow it was the farmers and the fishermen block Calais, when they get upset about EC policy
Too many people are prepared to bend over and take it off their boss’s
No backbone!
But they are prepared to bling up their truck out of there own pocket, sad

I was offered a job last week working for eddie stobart, on his biggest contract pulling for tesco.
I had my driving assessment and interview at their all new driving school in widnes, was given all the shcpeel on the company etc, then I was shown the rates, let’s just say if I was ever gona work for tesco, it wouldn’t be as a driver but a shelf stacker!
£7.75 an hour with NO overtime rate. Apparently the drivers turned down an overtime rate in the interest of fairness!
My arse!
judging by the amount of driving jobs around here at the moment i would take it if i was out of work. better then sitting on your arse waiting for state handouts. i couldn’t live on dole money thats for sure, could you
jonboy
Companies like Stobarts ruined most good jobs and its the drivers who should be blamed for taking it in the first place.
I used to drive for Tesco and the pay was amazing but gradually contractors started to take over with poor pay and conditions.
Stobarts has had the worst reputaion since i can remember but drivers join them so if you don’t like being treated like catte don’t take the job.
There used to be lots of jokes about them …
The scouts have cancelled bob a job because Stobarts undercut them ETC
If any company doesn’t pay overtime after 40 hours don’t work for them, it’s the first sign of a rotten company.

Some of the drivers, and I mean some of the drivers, especially blue eyed ones, don’t do much over 40 hours per week and get paid(guaranteed) 50 hours per week. All depends what you want out of life, if it suits then fine, if not look else where!

Shelf stackers are on about £6.80 per hour, 36 hours is full time. You’d be lucky to do more hours than that as a shop floor worker.

Arrr, but the real question here is, is a ‘Truck Driver’ or the job itself only worth a mere 95 pence per hour more than a shelf stacker?? By that definition (shelf stacker is unskilled) an HGV Driver is barely semi-skilled. That’s how Stobart view their Drivers, plain and simple, or so it would seem.
There are no cracks to paper over here, because it’s just a gaping hole that needs filling in. Stobart’s are poor in every respect imo and for me personally I would rather stack shelves for £6.80 than work ‘on the books’ for them. LTD Co Agency different story. . . .

Is stobarts pay poor compared to other general haulage firms? That is a genuine question!
I know people have mentioned Tesco drivers, but lets face it they were overpaid and underworked. I worked out of Doncaster Tesco, and a shift for a Tesco driver was Bridlington and back(120 miles round trip tops), and it took them 8 hours! We are like any other industry, some got caught taking the pi$$! Lets hope we don’t go down the route of all the other industries that are now no longer here!

Well, let’s see, shelf stacking is back breaking work, driving a truck really isn’t (unless you get a Haxor).
95p per hour * 36 is around 35 quid a week more, BUT you’d then do more hours driving a truck which = 35 + overtime MORE per week.
Then you get a bonus and a meal allowance which is MORE again.
If you want to earn £244.80 per week BEFORE tax and stoppages, go and stack shelves
I make more than you , You make more than me …Who really gives a #?-! .
I left a very well paid Class 1 job that I did for 9 Years because I hated the job in the end ( only stopped there because of the money ), I have been at Stobarts for the last 2 months and I am happy with the job , yes the money is ALOT less but I have the chance of working more hours as it is not a set wage like my last job ( job and finish ) , It’s not about the money if my old job offered £20 an hour I still would not go back ,
As long as my mortgage is paid I have a new car every 3 years,go away on Holiday twice a year and I am happy at work . What else is there .
