What am I misunderstanding here? I thought that @carryfast was in favour of tariffs and protecting the UK economy by raising barriers of all kinds? Do you @maoster agree with that?
If so, and maybe my understanding above is wrong, why support politicians who are free marketeers? Who were for Hard Brexit? Who wanted all trade barriers demolished so that far cheaper goods could be imported from all countries?

States with little foreign trade, either from choosing to have tariffs or being sanctioned against their will, are mostly economic failures.
The idea of the UK erecting barriers to trade, amongst comparable countries is an act of self harm.
Equally dropping barriers with countries that have very poor conditions and pay for workers and liberal legislation for finance, is also bad. At least, it is bad for workers, it is a plus for the richest fraction of a percent to get richer.
Nothing wrong with getting rich through ones own efforts. Making money through exploitative means is different.
