One of the nicest fleets around

It does make people jealous, and that makes them come out with the lines like ‘it can’t be working hard’. Thing is, there are all manner of jobs I have done to vehicles over the years, a gearbox on the side of the A38, injector pipes in Leicester and also on the side of the A39 in Somerset. Yet I always tried to keep it clean, and carried lots of stuff. I just wasn’t that good at it.

You have to hand it to Steve and his guys, they keep it up really well. I can’t imagine you would get a very good reception were you to suggest that they were not working trucks or that they were slipshod on maintenance if you said it to Mr Tabner. I think he would show you the proof then recommend you disappeared.

hiya,
tell you what i wish my local fishing lake was filled with some of you on here you don’t half bite, never once suggested the motors weren’t workhorses only said polishing wasn’t for me, back to the yard next days work sorted then home to see the family, look at dexters old 8 legger now thats a motor that looks like it works most of the stuff i drove looked a bit like that only a bit more road grime to give a worked in look, so i don’t think theres any point in resurrecting the old class 1, sureley theres no call for people who can do the job and save the gaffer a few bob into the bargain as well, never mind i’ll just carry on looking after the grandchildren and with a smile on my face, the pushchairs a bit grotty as well but if the daughter and son in law don’t like it they can clean the ■■■■ thing i bet i don’t get a complaint from them i’m too cheap, thanks harry long retired.

I’m not the gaffer Harry just passing comment on how nice his vehicles look and as far as anyone biting…you dont do bad yourself you just have to keep going back to how marvelous you were dont you, self praise is not worth a carrot, when your old bosses come on here telling us how good you were then I and all the others might take notice till then keep on blowing that trumpet. Toolkit in the foot well plus ropes and sheets to I bet eeeehhhh that cant beat it lad can tha!!! Its another world now Harry you had yours and the lads today have theirs. You also say you worked at most places twice…Why? If you left then obviously it wasn’t good enough so why go back just to leave again.
PS. Did you have the same sleeping bag for 20 years and never wash it too?

hiya,
never once used a sleeping bag never once slept in the cab either and have had sleeper cabs too as iv’e said previously i was the driver not the driver nightwatch did once sleep under the trailer though in the new forest it was broken down beyond roadside repair and too far away to get a bed for the night and i hated it by the way i couldn’t half pile some gear on the bunk after i unloaded the mattress for the trailer fitter to lie on, by the way i chopped and changed jobs because i got bored to death running regular routes plus i used to do a bit of deep sea fishing off iceland proper money too, ovlov you live your dream and i’ll live mine, thanks harry long retired.

I do live my dream without trying to put down everyone elses as you have done in your threads. Its been case of everyones wrong but you. You did the job as you saw fit and I’m not criticising you for that but its different now…trucks dont have injector pipes

hiya,
if you read through my threads ovlov i have never once criticised anyone or have i stated that what they want from a truck "hate that word " lorry and what i want from same is worlds apart my time at work was spent making money for me and the gaffer not messing about in the yard with polish and dusters, lorries are for working iv’e even had bosses tell me that and in the present climate i’ll bet the gaffer would prefer his motors travelling the roads freighted, grimy or not, have you ever noticed a difference in performnce between a shiny lorry and a grubby one i never did and did the job for 40odd years just a bit disappointed that your’e not the boss ovlov i’d have loved to turn up at your’e place in something i was driving and asked for a job, i’ll just have to dream that one, never mind you can’t win them all by the way i’m aware injectors are no longer the norm pity really i’ll have re-organise my toolbox just in case hauliers are flocking for my services, thanks harry long retired.

I can’t see anyone beating doors down looking for drivers right now.

And you were very suggestive in your comments about Steves trucks. You also were suggestive in your comments about the mechanical side of things. Were you not, then maybe I would have left you to it. As it was, you were semi insulting to a man I respect and admire, and I find that difficult to take. Just because he wouldn’t be bothered to come on here to answer you doesn’t mean that nobody should.

As for biting, not really. You made comments, they were answered. You kept coming back with more comments and were answered again. You didn’t just set a bait and leave it, you keep reeling it in and having a look. No wonder you don’t catch fish!

Harry your really proud that you had dirty scruffy wagons aren’t you and your typical of that ilk when you think that clean trucks dont make any money. There are still scruffy buggers like you about so dont worry your not alone there are still lots flying the flag for you and like you they have all the excuses in the world for not keeping them clean and you know nobody bothers them about it…they always bring it up just like you have because of embarrasment they feel when they see a clean truck. If I was a boss Harry and you showed up wanting a job in a dirty battered wagon you wouldn’t get near. Good luck to you and your old bosses but as I said before till they start telling me how good you were I couldn’t give a fiddlers ■■■■ for what you write about yourself as I said self praise is no praise at all…Come on now Harry tell us some more stories about how wonderful you are and how battered your trucks were… Maybe some of the lads on here could aspire to you. (that means follow your example…now put the dictionary down)

hiya,
i’ll give up now iv’e got to my, sides are sore with laughter plus theres a guy across the street washing his truck wonder if he’s getting paid for it also wondering if he wants a hand he’s been at it two hours now i could have been nearly in brum by that time making money for me and the boss, anyway i’m giving up now and saying goodbye and admitting i’m beaten, several - nil to you lads but idon’t care at nearly 73 pleased to know i can still get peoples backs up ta ta promise i won’t rattle your cages anymore, PS bobthedog tell me where iv’e ever mentioned steve i thought ovlov was the boss and have never knocked anyone thats not my style, please read carefully and you will see i only generalised and gave my opinion my likes and dislikes and my method of working which if i was starting all over again thank goodness that can’t happen, i wouldn’t change a thing, thanks harry long retired.

Please dont go Harry we need you to rattle our cages . You’ve live in a different galaxy to the rest of us it must be the Werthers Originals getting to you. You’ve rattled nobodies cage but your own because you cant win with your dirty is best approach. You couldn’t keep a wagon clean so nobody else should either. You insinuate again that because a wagon is being cleaned it cant be making any money. If they’re looked after they will make more because of less downtime through being ill treated and badly driven therefore not needing clutches ,brakes etc and panel beaters and you dont think for one minute what the customers might think of the peice of junk carrying their goods. Just look at Mr Stobart what he has done through image. ( come on now Harry I’m sure you can find something to rip the back out of him for) dont leave us be alert… trucknet needs lerts like you!!!

hiya,
sorry can’t see the keyboard for tears of laughter iv’e definately chucked it now never more will you hear from me i’m heartbroken but i’ll get over it ovlov you’re a bit of an expert at calling people names i don’t think i ever referred to you in a derogatory manner or anyone else for that matter all you could see was my way of thinking as iv’e said before read properly before saying things like clean motors aren’t workhorses said i think grubby motors looked more like workhorses and your chum stated jealousy on my part thats something i never never was couldn’t care less what anybody drove never yearned for the new motor in the yard and have had many they didn’t look new for long but they earned plenty by the way whats a lert is it something nice or should i be worried see a doctor maybe? i’m going now farewell all and get the polish out it’s not bedtime yet, thanks harry long retired.

more comebacks than sinatra :sunglasses:

Erm… Harry, take a little look at the pictures with your specs on and you will see something very interesting. You see, as the vehicles are clean and tidy, you can actually make out the name of the proprietor. If you look really, really hard, you might see the name Stephen, and I understand that it is not uncommon for someone called Stephen to also be called Steve. Much the same, I guess, as Harold can be changed to Harry.

You took a pop at the company, the trucks, the mechanical integrity, the amount of work they do and the drivers themselves and you suggested that you could outwork them, outperform them, and that the guys who keep their vehicles clean know less than you do.

How could you possibly think this? Do you not think that it is unfair and rude to suggest it of total strangers? I would hope you can qualify it, but I doubt it very much.

hiya,
just a little more seeing that you don’t read what iv’e written the person who mentioned mechanicals was another contributor point out to me where iv’e said anything about anybody verily steve or stephen and i will hold my hand up also iv’e never mentioned mechanical condition or anybody’s vehicles not being looked after, thanks harry long retired.

another comeback by harry sinatra  and does it really take much to wash a truck every so often?dont have to polish it after all.if being tidy and having a reasonably clean truck helps people look at us as a bit more than tramps then i’m happy to do it.oh,no offence harry monk.

Glenman… Harry opened his mouth first and all he’s done is slag off clean trucks, blow his own trumpet, cos he was bloody marvelous you know  there’s not a bloke on the planet could do the job as well as him or illtreat a wagon as well as him  and his bosses loved him for it too!!! He never slept in a cab you know but slept under a trailer!!! What the ■■■■ is all that about? He tries to be funny and say its all a joke but its one we’ve heard a 1000 times before and we’ll hear it all again from the next bloke that comes along who doesn’t look after his wagon and thinks nobody else should so they dont look bad …Just like the lert joke he cant grasp it. Harry I’ve not called anyone names I have just stated what I think and you have no right to go around slaggin anyone off for looking after their kit or insinuating as you do that clean trucks dont earn money. As I’ve said you’ve had your time in your beat up dirty wagons and I’m glad you enjoyed it but its someone elses turn now and most of the drivers nowadays show a pride in their vehicle let them enjoy it in peace.

hiya,
in the words of bing not frank gone fishing some of you should try slinging your hook , thanks harry long retired.

Aaawwww bless…Harry

I took my previous truck(same job)over from a man that was retiring. he was there for 34 years and was a serious man to go right to the end.
He would grease and service a truck no bother but, the inetrior was a disgrace. The outside was never washed properly with detergent or a brush.
He used to turn the detergent off when he washed the truck and say don’t waste it.
It took me a good month of scrubbing/polishing/pure detergent on alluminium and many bin bags filled with rubbish to get that truck clean.
After he left the MD said to me one day “i never seen that truck as clean-well done”,he didn’t mind me using detergent!!!
The local Volvo garage could’nt believe it was the same truck when i first brought it in.
I have alot of respect for the driver i speak of but he never had a decent truck and i found out the company thought he wasnt bothered cos he never “appeared to care”.

You get what you give i suppose.

hiya,
golf gear gleaming fishing tackle spick and span i’m still rubbish at both sports, thanks harry long retired.
