all different rates ie owner drivers, agency, full time employees, human nature but become so far apart as were not united any more, besides the government which ever one would ban it viva la france they know how to do it…

Isn’t it about time for a national one day strike/stoppage of all trucking operations to get Employers to Realise we are professional and we should be paid a better hourly rate, have better facilities on offer…etc …etc… Would it ■■ Could it Happen ■■?..unless we all make a stand i doubt it…what do you think?? is it possible, feasable…would YOU!! DO IT !!
You only have to look at how so called professional drivers treat each other on motorways to have the answer to your question “could it happen?”. In short : not a ■■■■■■■ chance. 0. Zilch. Nada.
Strike action would be the last resort after negotiations broke down, but who negotiates, with who,its not like the railways with Bob Crowe in charge…time for a new union for HGV licence holders, and ask bob if he’s up for challenge.

remember the fuel protests,i think it was the year 2000,but remember the look on tony blairs face on the front page of the nationals, really really worried,he knew the tanker drivers had him by the bxxxxxxs
The tanker drivers didn’t go on strike then! The tankers were taken off the roads due to threats from the protesting public to drop bricks from bridges etc, & it became a health & safety issue. Some fuel (such as heating oil to old folks homes) did go out but had to be accompanied by a Police ■■■■■■.
I worked for BP in Grangemouth for 18 years & yes, did go on strike a few times due to the constant picking away at conditions/terms. We were satisfied with the outcomes, but it seems that haulage drivers & the like do not have the ability to stand united, therefor you’re being paid crap money! It’s as simple as that!

Think it’s about time many many many drivers on here grow up & stop winging on about pay & conditions.
If your not happy with your lot in life put your hands in your pockets, search out your balls & do something about it yourself!!
Like?
Lol, that response just sums some people up, try reading what you’ve just responded to…& think about
I asked a genuine question. What would you suggest people do? What have and would you do to improve your lot?
Same here, I’d really like to know what/where these better paying jobs are, that your average trucker can walk into■■?
any job that you can walk into is generally never going to pay too well, if you want something better then chances are you’re going to have to work for it.
college course 1 day a week or a few nights
open university
internet
take a few weeks holiday and do some sort of block course, like many people do to gain their hgv licence
get a new job starting at the bottom, but one with prospects / training. how many would never consider working at mcdonlds? don’t they have quite a good management training program?
First of all I didn’t mention ‘any average trucker jobs that you can walk into’ . It’s the people that think you just walk into these jobs that will remain at the lower end of any pay scale, in my honest opinion its not that there’s a vast difference between the ability of a driver earning say £12ph & one earning £6.50ph, it’s the person themselves that makes the difference.
Scenario:
Imagine your interviewing 2 drivers for a job & offering top money & excellent kit.
Both drivers have a driving assessment & both are as good as each other & worthy of the position on offer.
One driver has no dress sense, looks unkept, very little positive to say about previous employers & generally comes across the world owes him.
The other driver is smart, pleasent, can actually hold a positive conversation & actually has a personality.
Which do you choose? I think we all know.
It’s my opinion that all the winging, doom & gloom, talk of strikes etc etc are firmly in the driver no.1 category & have no chance of becoming driver no.2 unless they look in the mirror & make positive changes. If they don’t do this, then please just except your at the level your at & it won’t change, so except it & enjoy life to your means.

The “other driver” though doesn’t exist does he?
No one ever gave me a job over someone else because I looked smarter, even when I was.
If clean licence, being able to speak and spell, able to converse about a variety of non-chav subjects, and doing a good job counted towards automatically being paid top dollar with a long contract, then we similar drivers would all be at work coining it in, instead of talking about it on yet another of our 24/45 hour rest breaks on here.
Thus, the tiebreak ends up being "This bod will work for £6.50ph and the other one won’t go below £10.00. Hi fred, here’s your keys!

Try reading before you reply !! The other driver does exist & if you read the post correctly you’ll appreciate your response makes little sense.
Well paid jobs do exist & due to varying intellectual levels amongst drivers a great many will never find them or indeed stand a chance of getting them !!
No good paying firm in land interviews people & thinks, hang on a minute, instead of paying our usual £12ph as on offer, this thick as pig ■■■ smelly scrote will do it for £6.50ph so we’ll take him on & he can be the face of our company to customers !!
Well paid people die and retire all the time.
Now, I know people that have won 6 figures on the lottery, and I know people that drive rolls royces and Ferraris.
I’ve yet to meet a person who is paid top dollar (£20ph+) for the job I do though, meaning that either the job doesn’t exist, or the number of people doing it happen to be lower in number than the number of big lottery winners etc. by straightforward statistical comparison.
The Catweazel lookalike driver is most likely to be a FULL TIMER who can’t be easily got rid of because he’s too senior to be removed without major legal hassles, bearing in mind the scruffiest drivers often have good sick records which is one of the main criteria that management “will let go” staff over these days.
Should an agency/contractor be a complete tramp rather than tramper, then it’s dead easy to get rid of THEM right?
One should not have to have the detection skills of a government agent to find that magical job that is not in plain sight out there. If there is some kind of “aloof network of well-educated drivers who keep the plum jobs to themselves” then I go back to my first argument. I know plenty of university crowds. Yes, I realise the good stuff doesn’t need to be advertised, but strange how I’ve not heard of a single job through my own grapevine (even with lots of hoop-jumping required to get it) that has come onto the market over the years.
“Scruffy incumbent” is staying put, because he knows once he goes, he ain’t going to be let back in again.
Scruffy casual gets left on the sidelines enough so eventually he realises that a life on benefits pays better than the increasingly rare shifts he can get via agency.
Thus, on interview day, if the top person for the job stands before the boss alone, they’ll get the job by default. If he does stand alone, that in turn suggests that “the other driver does not exist”.
Oh yes, the proverbial scruff should be the “other driver” here. You’ve got the “good driver” down as “other” suggesting yourself that they are as rare as rocking horse crap.
I realise now that I’ve tripped over your reverse use of protagonist here.
The ability of a scruff to get and retain a good job have dwindled to nothing these past few years. As they leave, they are not replaced by another of the same irk, thus they have become an endangered species in today’s much more competitive marketplace.

We wooden have the bottle to do it; Maggie sorted all that thing out about strikes years ago, too many people working driving trucks living on the breadline. Anyway this is not France. Now they could teach us a thing or two.
