Oldest lorry.

I just got overtaken like I was stood still on the M20 by a D reg ERF pulling what looked like a nearly new fridge.

If its an orange colour and from Nantwich my missus says she sees that on the boat so it goes over the water :open_mouth:

Is that ERF the guy from Stoke that pulls fridges?
Owner driver can’t remember his name now.
Keen caravanner if I remember:)

Kev Dennis in Lincolsnhire runs a fleet of Roadtrains and a couple of Cruisers on regular work, had an E reg ERF last time I was round there too, he has been mentioned on rt.com a couple of times on biglorryblog. Top bloke

About four years ago I got left standing by the Catthorpe interchange by a Seddon Atkinson 400 series on an E plate if I remember correctly. It was pulling logs. Does it still operate?
I have seen another 400 series, white, pulling a white box trailer on a C plate too a few times in the last couple of years.

Does that Roadtrain still operate too? I forget the name of the company but I know it is white and I think it pulls containers. The name of the company is written on it.

hey switchlogic
it’s a lion amongst trucks

Pictures I’ve seen of Terry Godbold’s truck suggest it’s an ‘N’ reg (which places it around 1975■■).

There was an atricle in T&D which may be of interest for this question.

Does he run a fleet of Atkis then? Even today?

Huddlestones run more than one of them.

Look at this classic pic :

The one pictured is a p-reg, which makes it a little ‘younger’ than the Godbold motor.

Dave the Renegade:
There is a coal mercheant near Hereford who still runs a 1970 Bedford TK with a petrol engine in it,they have had it from new,its on a H plate. As far as I know this vehicle is still delivering bags of coal around Herefordshire.

I don’t think any are run commercially anymore

The 3 axle monster has been on the show circuit for a few years now and looks like this (with a private plate)

A Seddon Atkinson pulling logs? If it was blue and white – it might be one of Mervyn Edwards’ 401’s

It’s a year or four since John Huddleston ran any. The last one he worked was an L-reg Borderer with a 180 Gardner - that one is on the show circuit now, with Robinson’s of Sandy. He also had a 1958 Mk.1 tractor that worked very late - it was advertised for sale, but I don’t know where it is now.

He has just this one, although he has operated it commercially since about 1977. Terry also owned another Borderer for a while, but I’m not sure that he ever used it commercially. It’s now in Stobart’s life-size display case, finished in a pseudo period Stobart livery.

Emerton Roofing are still using a 1968 ERF LV with a Perkins engine, I believe – there’s a picture on the “who runs the old wagons” thread

Last wed 16th Sept I was travelling East on the A59 heading for a day of corporate fun at Coniston Hall Hotel driving all the
latest 2010 Range Rovers on and off road, as I approached Gisburn where the layby has the Transport cafe on the right
I saw this old gal still earning a crust. regards Big Al

Hi Chris, just a little off subject but i thought of you because you once replied to a thread on Old Atkinsons. On Sunday past I travelled over the M62
with a couple of show trucks to attend The Festival of The Plough at Epworth (Home of The Wesleys) near Doncaster. While I was setting up a gent came up
and said his mate was attending the show from Aylesbury and he thought my ERF could once have been in his fleet as it had a Bucks reg D417PPP I did’nt
think it could be as it was new to Mackay Transport of Watford. When the gent came over and introduced himself turned out to be Mike Fountain and
his old company was Fountain Bros Transport, we had a good old chat and I told him I knew the where abouts of an old Atkinson unit of his HVD 376N,
it has a 240 Gardner Engine and is still painted in their livery. I think I once posted a picture of it on another thread and you replied. regards Big Al

Ah yes, the Lawton family have it now, don’t they? It belonged for many years to Charles Roads - he even did a trip to somewhere in Eastern Europe with it, c.1998, to collect some machinery. It’s always looked like a proper working lorry.

This old girl is still running about in Norfolk & Suffolk.

Terry Godbold’s Atkinson Borderer.

Don’t ever believe that old trucks are slow - this Atki is the fastest HGV around. (Probably because it has a 14 litre ■■■■■■■ under the bonnet from an ERF E14!)

Probably because it doe’s’nt need a limiter either. If there’s anyone out there with an old Bedford TM with an 8V92 Detroit in it then that old Atki will have to work hard to even stay close.

Indeed it doesn’t need a limiter, being pre-1988, but it does have something like 365bhp to urge it along, though!

I think i surprised a few drivers on the M62 Saturday afternoon passing them in Gertie. regards Big Al
