Oldest lorry.

Big al, is there any chance you can delve into your archives and pull out a picture of Gertie, please? I’m interested to see her.

Terry Godbold’s Atkinson Borderer.

Don’t ever believe that old trucks are slow - this Atki is the fastest HGV around. (Probably because it has a 14 litre ■■■■■■■ under the bonnet from an ERF E14!)

Probably because it doe’s’nt need a limiter either. If there’s anyone out there with an old Bedford TM with an 8V92 Detroit in it then that old Atki will have to work hard to even stay close.

Indeed it doesn’t need a limiter, being pre-1988, but it does have something like 365bhp to urge it along, though!

That old Bedford would be in good company because it’s got around 400bhp+ and a 13 speed Fuller and it does’nt need the limiter either.Maybe someones got an old 6x4 Foden with a Cat in it as well.Looks like we’ve got us a convoy.

Saw a Volvo F10/12 on a ‘T’ reg (1978/9) pulling a tipper loaded with Wheat in Heygates at Bugbrooke last week.

In there regular apparantly !

Like a proud Dad always ready to whip out a picture of their kids I am same with my Big Boys Toys. Here is Gertie pictured 17th May 2009 at the Spring
Transport Show at the Leyland Commercial Museum on King Street. She is loaded with my latest restoration an Atkinson Borderer MRN 382K (as yet not
named) and behind her facing to the rear is Mildred my 1944 Thornycroft Sturdy Diesel. regards Big Al

Thanks Big Al. I think you should call it Bertie. So you have Gertie and Bertie. The initials of their first names are GB, which, as we all know, stands for Great Britain. That might be a fitting tribute to the British engineering they both represent.

Speaking of old trucks… Does anyone know the whereabouts of any old MAN units ? I had a 22.331 a long time ago (the one with the F8 cab) and it was the best truck I ever had ! The one I had was D678 EWD. I would love to find another runable one ! They all seem to have vanished ! Anyone ?

J+B(Johnson + Boyles) bulk haulage from Cricklade were running the older type Mans up until recently, might be worth a try.

i seen a few old ones on the A47 just lately

I saw an old ERF on an F reg 1968 model between Perth and Coupar Angus. It looked in good nick.

Saw a R reg (76?) Bedford in Wales this morning
