Not looking forward to next week

There ARE no facts any more. Medical professionals are only “speculating”, those not academic experts in any field are “conspiracy theorists” if they comment at all outisde their area of official “expertise”, and politicians who’s job it is to just get things done - constantly lie to us why this wasn’t done, that was done “wrong”, and why it’s nobody’s fault but the voter - that we’re in the crapper all the time.

We’re made to regret voting for whatever government won the last election, made to regret throwing the wrong public figures under the bus, made to regret voting Leave, made to regret pushing back anywhere, at any time.

The current responses, world-wide - are to seemingly to prevent majority governments continuing, because divided democracies are heaven for totalitarian superpowers.
Is there anyone who thinks America isn’t near it’s Nadir as a world class nation, rather than at it’s all time best?

Trump might have won an election on that nostalgic hope - but America is no nearer to it’s 60’s heydey now than it was five years ago under terrorist-appeasing Obama - is it?
If it DOES become so - then Trump will have no problem redding-out the American electoral map come November, and the “Opposition” were merely an over-blown over-counted number of nasty democrat voters all along.

Boris? - He hasn’t got Brexit done yet - as far as I’m concerned. We’re still paying money to the EU, and respecting it’s institutions rather than ripping the guts out of them with a massive de-funding exercise that seems no nearer completion than it was before ■■■■■■■■ got involved. I wonder if the Covid “aim” is to find an excuse - an excuse that lets Boris stay on as PM - to “kick the can one more time” come the end of this year.
I’ll believe Brexit is truly done - once the EU is disbanded. Instead meanwhile, they’ve got their budget through, so we’re told… Who’s paying for that again?

Low risk takers - are now holding this entire country back from the brink of success… Covid is snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Like the “War on Terror” - it has no end.
Covid will be as easy to eradicate as the Common Cold, as it is a Virus, but so many people now refuse to return to former lives - because the risk is too high for them to take, perceived or otherwise.

Once this deflationary slump gets going - it’ll be worse than the 1930’s because we don’t have an actual Hitler in the world to tool-up and team-up against THIS time around.
Each business that closes down simply because “it’s trade has gone” - lays more workers off, that have less money to spend on some other business that also fails a result… Chain reaction.

Eventually we will be faced as a nation with the same thing I was faced with back in April:
Do we starve in order to pay our debts, or do we clear the slate, and start again, living within our means this time around?
Totally useless the latter for government - as when a government wins an election, it will inherit a trade deficit so large that IF that debt isn’t defaulted meanwhile, and “Sorry, there’s no money to spend. Government Disbanded!”

We need to wean ourselves off DEBT smartish, because far from uphold the economy for a little while, eventually cash becomes king, as it became in the 1930’s.
Buying Gold?
Wasn’t it Roosevelt’s Democrat government who passed laws making it ILLEGAL to own Gold, and forcing people to sell it to the government @ $34 per ounce, ruining those few canny people left who’d successfully weathered the downturn up until that point…
Meanwhile in Europe - anyone who had “successfully weathered the downturn” on the mainland - ended up either at war fighting, or in a concentration camp suffering.

Covid hasn’t happened because of “Brexit”, Covid has happened because enemy powers don’t want Brexit, Trump, or any over government in the world “RIght of Karl Marx”.
Even Boris has shuffled back to the center, presumably because powers on high have ordered him to do so…
He’s wealthy, if he ever gets forced out don’t forget… He can go “Oh well never mind - I’ve busted the nation, and now we’re so in hock to China, either we starve, or agree to let China take over parts of our own country - and government.”

…until someone with any power says STOP of course.

Who’s our ally these days?

Others are now clearly questioning “Was it worth it?” bearing in mind the economic downturn will take YEARS to correct, whilst the Covid goes on and on - until we’ve cured a Virus AND eradicated it. “Not within our lifetimes” I’m thinking. Can’t we just accept that 99% of us will be dying before age 100, and get back to work?

What needs to happen next - is that firms rigidly enforcing the wearing of masks - need to be totally boycotted now by those customers that in the case of supermarkets - can now go to Asda and Sainsburys rather than Tesco and Waitrose as per the BBC article linked above.

Greggs and McDs - will be turning people away meanwhile…

Perhaps our ally will turn out to be the Great British Public

‘‘Police will be able to “use force” to remove customers from shops if they do not wear face coverings, or to prevent them from entering, according to the College of Policing.’’

I don’t see a word about stores being responsible for enforcing mask rules on customers. Instead they’ve decided to take the initiative themselves and refuse service to unmasked customers for no other reason than to make others feel ‘‘safe’’ (which is on its way to become the buzz word of the decade btw) however in the process they’re going to alienate the other half.

If forcing healthy people to wear masks does anything at all to stop the spread then why was it not done earlier?

switchlogic:

maga:
compulsory masks at this stage of the pandemic is ridiculous. We’ve already gone through the peak and the decline without so they’re clearly not necessary.

Welcome to shambolic incompetent Tory Britain, are you a new arrival?

At least I haven’t had to eat the dog, a certainty had we been the Socialist Republic of Labour.

Just to horrify you even more, along with not caring about the mask bollox I also still shake hands and work in close proximity to others.

the maoster:
I’ll be wearing a mask. I have to if I want my life to have any semblance of normality, but I’ll be doing it with a heavy heart and under protest. I can’t help feeling that this whole thing has gone from disease prevention to people control and I have a mental image of some Doctor Evil type character sat in his mountaintop lair saying “watch what I can make the plebs do now!”

If masks were even any part of the solution we’d have been wearing them since day one of the plague. Don’t give me that ■■■■■■■■ about how the science has changed, because it hasn’t! Any primary school child knows to cover their mouth when coughing or sneezing so I’m assuming that the greatest medical minds in the world may just have a clue as to why that is? Yet only today it’s been decided that we must conform mask wise to defeat Covid?

Control control control.

I swear that there are many people (lots on here too) who would defend a government fitting every household with “Covid cameras” sold on the lie that they are for our safety and are merely there so “they” can spot when someone is doing something likely to spread disease and then gently assist them in re education. The same people would defend it with “but, but, but it’s for your own safety” or “if you’re complying you have nothing to fear”.

Control, control, control.

Nail on the head.

The same people who call the government incompetent and useless are the same ones desperate to follow every stupid rule they make up and say they trust the “experts”. Thicker than whale omelettes.

Let’s just take a moment to learn from history what happens when common sense and opinions are put before science:

And then, when there really IS a shortage of Labour… Supply and demand goes out the window as an argument to “why peasants should get higher wages”…

It isn’t “life” that’s not fair - but the Elites that break their own rules - whenever they see fit.

Some people think that “Capitalism is Bad” because of this, but if Capitalism were made to work properly then the 1930’s gave us a good example of what happens when “he who has the money to employ - gets their way.” With law and order rubbished already, the time of the Gangster was at hand…

Do we have an equivalent of a firm today that tells it’s staff to “Break the law whenever we request it, look the other way rather than whilstleblow, don’t lean on your work colleagues - we’re all part of the same team”…?

I think this is awful !
Those who carry one of these certificates wont need a from signed by a Gov approved Doctor? They wont need to book up an appointment, and pay a substantial fee to get one of these?
Why, anyone would think we were living in a free society and not a police state!

Clearly those who feel the need to be independent need not bother dishonestly self-certifying that they have health issues, they could print a certificate saying:
/ I dont give a toss about others health issues
/ I dont care about possible infection spread / I am a truck driver and think its all nonsense because I know more about medicine than Doctors*
/ Delete as appropriate.

*This one could be decorated with a picture of a “whale omelette”.

There’s no “certainties” here - only “odds”.

At present, any gambler will tell you that there’s more chance of being killed in next friday’s rush hour traffic statistically, than even catching (let alone dying) of Covid…

It is the collateral “sideshow damage” that we all need to avoid, since losing jobs, seeing pay & conditions cut, losing one’s already-paid-for holidays, not being able to get their car MOTed and hence safe, and of course not being able to attend social events" - are already taking their toll on MILLIONS of us, rather than just a handful of people we’ve not even heard of - until after they’ve gone.

Probably not ALL gamblers would say that?

Only those who are terminally stupid.
Less than 2,000 road deaths in 2019…about 8 a week…about one a day.
Friday 24th 770 new cases lab confirmed. 123 deaths.

Nothing but a snowflakes charter . I had a lung removed due to cancer , have copd in the other , also have cardio vascular disease ( I know I’m a wreck ) But I find no issue with wearing a mask when necessary, it slows me down a little ,but that is better than the possible threat to my life . Don’t even get me ranting about the idiots with their beak poking out over the mask , obviously mouth breathers .

Just been into Asda in Grantham for some necessary supplies (beer 'n ■■■■) and obviously donned my mask. Being company issue it was cheap and uncomfortable with a hard ridge that dug into my nose. Obviously experimentation with masks will help there. It felt alien at first, but as everyone else is in the same boat it wasn’t too bizarre. I say everybody, but curiously the store staff are not required to wear them!

Got to love all the snowflakes who are scared of wearing a bit of fabric on their faces. I went for the snood option, has a chargeable filter inside and it’ll be handy in winter anyway when cold

From Amazon if anyone is interested.

Pic uploaded to set off the weirdo who got upset about drivers wearing mirrored sunglasses. And no, I don’t ‘think’ I look cool, I know it, I don’t need sunglasses for that being Britain’s most swish lorryist

I also went for the snood type option while I was on furlough, I made the Mrs stay in and I did all the shopping.
Only thing was any shop I went in the staff looked alarmed at me like I was going to rob it.

Looks like you were indeed shoplifting mate.

Now do the right thing & go back to Sports Direct and put that basketball back that you shoved under your shirt

Tbf I did end up losing (most of) it by walking every day for 6 weeks in furlough, but somehow it seems to have appeared again. :open_mouth: …too much good living man. :sunglasses:
