what is it with todays drivers, and managers?
managers that love to dictate, and manipulate rules. and drivers that do the same with already manipulated rules, just so they can do less, want more, and moan more.
[zb] off to greece you lazy tossers.
what you on about you ■■■■■■,how the zb can he be lazy,he wanted to wash the zb windscreen, they said NO,will dock your wages,if hed of said zb it im not washing the windscreen thats lazy, idle, wanting to wash it isnt, poor lad just wants to do the job properly and he gets a load of grief,zb idiots
stvme2519:
our depot as banned us from washing our motors in the week and said theyll be done on weekend…well mine aint been done for 3 weeks …windscreen was a right mess cause of dead flies and insects all smeared to when ive tried to clean with wipers …told my planner today that im gona wash it in goole as i was in there getting parked up and had time to…i was told no im not allowed so when i said it was my licence i was told if i do wash it i wont get paid for the time it takes
OK ‘ady1’ this is what the op’s is moaning about, not being able to wash the truck during the week but as the windscreen is part of the truck it’s obviously something that can only be cleaned when the whole vehicle is washed
Maybe if ‘stvme2519’ had just cleaned the windscreen in the way that has been described by numerous posters instead of telling the planner he was going to get it washed in Goole, which sounds very much like he means the whole truck and not just the windscreen, none of this nonsense would have happened
But as it appears he is an ESL driver I think this was a bit of a wind up post to get the ESL slaggers on here to have another go at them. I don’t believe for one moment that the op is so stupid as to think that anyone believes that you need permission from a planner to clean your windscreen or maybe he/she is that stupid
I’m sure some of the other ESL driver’s who post on here cringe and hide when they read some of the purile stuff that their work colleagues come up with, keeping your field of vision clear from the inside and the outside is the drivers responsibility, always has been and always will be, you do not need to wash the whole vehicle to clean your windscreen and I do not believe for one minute that you have to get permission from a planner to clean that windscreen.
Regards
Dave Penn;
all he wanted to do was clean his windscreen, some ■■■■ tells him no,ill dock your pay[ive read enough stupid memos on our board] to believe it s more than likely true, some of the ■■■■ they come up with[half a tank of diesel being up there] with them.
as i said earlier ive never had it said to me,never threatened with docking pay but give some info from above to some of these clowns[planners] and they interpit to suit themselfes.
at the end of the day this idiot planner will be gone in 6 months,he hasnt got enough up top to realise you need to work/get the drivers on your side, back scratching, you do me a favour ill do you one, look after the drivers, then theyl look after you,hes ■■■■■■ op off,so i guess the op will dig his heels in ,no favours from him.thers only going to be one winner when its a battle between planner /driver,i know
as for what other stobart drivers say/think,do you really think i care what anyone thinks, you dont know me very well at all dave
as i say i think the griefshes getting is wrong, basically fueled by who he drives for,any other firm and it would of been zb useless planners, sympathy etc etc
Saratoga:
Hasn’t ESL publicly said he wanted the trucks kept clean and tidy? If it was a matter of getting the screen done then surely it would just be easier to drive down to the wash bay and either ask the guys there to lance wash the screen or do it your [zb] self!!!
go back and read the posts, were not allowed to use the wash, were not allowed to use the pressure washer, its locked away[pressure washer] when the washing lads not there, thats the point he wanted to wash the truck and the thick planner said no,ill dock your pay,the problem here is youve got joe bloggs saying i want the trucks spotless/clean,in the next sentance hes saying i want the wheels turning 24/7, youve 30 mins to get in there ,book in,tipped/reloaded/out,something has to give,
and its normally the drivers ■■■,as they attempt to kick it
I cannot believe that this post is three pages long, even more worrying, I read it all.
Keep the windscreen, lights and number plate clean - it is not that difficult a task for a “professional”, it’s a necessity and a legal requirement! The rest of the motor can wait…
Next thing we will hear is VOSA will fine you per number of squashed bugs on your screen…

i agree, moderators should of stepped in,locked this thread, the amount of grief that poor stobart drivers got over just wanting to wash his windscreen and not being allowed to is beyond belief,he seems to have disapeared without trace, hope hes o,k, zb hell if this was a boxing match theyd of chucked the towel in in the first round[page 1],hes took hell of a beating, hope he is alright
Took someone else’s lorry out today and look at the size of the squashed bug. VOSA will ■■■■ me hard I must ask my boss when I get back if I can clean this vile creature off my windscreen
I’m so enthralld with this thread that I actually checked the wash sheet to see when I last took my truck to the wash at Whitwood, Oct 3rd 2011 , but I have cleaned the glass & cab since, honest, one telescopic brush, one bucket of frothy water and 2/3 minutes of my time. I don’t understand the problem, you don’t ask the planner first, you just do it, do you ring the planner if your caught short and have to pull in for a toilet break? next you’ll be ringing to ask whether 2 or 3 sheets or even better if he’ll come and wipe for you. I hope you have 999 on speed dial cos I’m sure you’ll have a heart attack should you ever have a bulb out.
Three pages for a dirty windscreen and what to do about it, FFS, what the hell would half of you do in a real emergency, probably go running home to mummy. And some should really learn to spell.

i can see a dcpc session on this in future … the drivers day including what to do if you cant see out of your windscreen, health and safety of cleaning a windscreen, correct use of a harness for working at heights, correct attire for using chemicals for cleaning a windscreen. thats why it takes more than half hour!
but really your moan is you dont get paid for the 1min it will take you to clean a screen wtf get a grip
hes moaning[and hes good reason too] because all he wanted to do was wash his windscreen, there the ones who said you cant,we wont pay you etc,ive never had the same issue as him,ive never been told id be docked pay,but if it ever came to that i guess id feel as agrieved as he does,i bet hes just your normal driver who just wants to get on with his job and some idiot of a planner keeps putting obsticales in his way
i hear so much of this these days, planners /managers interpiting what theyve been told to suit there themselfes,i bet if you spoke to someone high up and said is it o.k to wash my windscreen theyd say fine, wash it and on you go,not NO,and if you do will dock your pay.
the lad shouldnt be getting any grief its the idiots who are comming up with this [zb]
so why not just go down the road stop and clean it as many have said they cant see just say you had to stop to answer a call of nature . to me the vehicle and its safe operation are the drivers problem and i would be just cleaning it irrespecitve of what some little numpty in an office was saying! you could even do it as part of your morning vehicle checks if your really pushed for time!
to me i get the moan but you must have expected a bit of flak, to me it doesnt matter if it stobarts or any other company i would have posted the same, at the end of the day the driver is just doing his job the same as most on here, but like i said i would have just stopped and cleaned it end of.
I’ve had similar type issues with Bus company fitters over the condition of unbreakable mirrors and cab side windows. These get badly scratched over time by the bus wash brushes and become opaque. Fitter claims he can see out of the mirror and it will pass MOT (which is true). If I have to pull out of a lay-by stop (Bromley- by- Bow southbound on A12) which is 50 yards after a l/h bend and a humped bridge, into lane 2 ( lane 1 becomes a slip road exit) of a supposedly 40 mph multi-carriageway, then I want a very clear view indeed of what is happening behind. I can stick my head out of the window, but I want to see in the mirror too.
my point of the thread was why should a planner dictate how we keep the vehicle in order…as for tossing the job off well i dont …every day we get a phone call for saying why we aint got logged off in a certain amount of time so i was just letting him know the reason why i was gona go over save been questioned the next day …if some of ya on here take it as i cant do the job our i need my arse wiping thats up to you …you crack on and think that …as for cleaning it at begining of shift well on a monday morning all of the wash is locked up …and weve been told every day through istorak we are not to go on the washes at any depot …and happy sack as for you mate ya must be one of the carlisle glory boys our maybe penrith lads that all seem to think that they are best mates with willie stobart our tink as ya all call them …while sir ive got one thing to say to ya mate and that is muppet
Somebodies got their knickers twisted, I say again why tell them before the fact tell em after, if you have a tyre that’s a bit low on tread, would you tell them before or after you’ve been to see the fitter, if you tell them before you risk them trying to sweet talk you into doing it later (read not at all) if you tell them after the fact there’s sweet fa they can do about it, if they don’t pay you, you stick a grievance in. Here’s the thinking of the children bit, If your involved in an accident with a furry windscreen, who do you thinks gonna be in the mire, you or the planner?
I know it’s hard to please planners, as they find it hard to hit their targets, but you could turn the thing round so it’s their problem, stick a defect in if it’s not been cleaned over the weekend and tell em it wouldn’t really be safe to drive until the defect is rectified, and would they kindly find someone to do so, then when they can’t, help them out by offering to do it yourself if someone would kindly unlock the wash gear.

In these situations I find the best policy is plant my right foot and close my eyes
If any proper drivers are worried they’ll need to do a few days a week after they retire to subsidise the pittance pension, never fear, gaffers’ll be bloody begging old dependable hands to come back in a few years when incompetence like this becomes the norm.

oh dear i have offended two of my workmates in two days…not carlisle, not penrith, i dont know willie or tinks. never met them. dont have any interest in them. but and this is a big but, if my windscreen needs washing then i do it. i dont ever get questioned about logging on/off…why? because i work for a decent man who sticks up for his drivers, and if we book an extra hour or whatever then nothing is said because some us think for ourselves and do a days work. you? two words…general muppet.
