Not once did I say I needed 30 minutes to clean windscreen…my point was we have to justify that time I’m allocated to fuel up get trailer into goods in debrief and just clean windscreen ill be just over the 30 minutes allocated so I was covering my arse cause they won’t pay more than 30 mins for us to log off with out reason…why can’t you clean the windscreen while you fuel up■■? just carry a cloth and a bottle of glass cleaner, it takes me about 3 mins to do mine, tanks filling while your doing it, jobs a goodun. you don’t need soap and water. i sometimes wonder how some of you manage to get out of bed in the mornings and find the truck in the first place.

I must admit I need a few red bulls first before I even attempt to find my truck
The DAF CF I had last night had encrusted flies on the windscreen. It took a good half hour with the wipers and screen wash on the motorway to clean most of the detritus off This was after I had been told ‘don’t worry about checking fluids’ before going out as ‘it had just been serviced’. Hmm.

Are you really worried about getting paid the 5 or 10 minutes needed to clean your screen■■? Come on man, if it were me id do it whether i was getting paid or not, tbh it wouldnt even enter my mind, take abit of pride in the job!
There’s quite a common culture creeping into transport. Some people will not contemplate even thinking about work if they’re not getting paid for it. If the op is refusing to clean the screen for that reason, he is taking it to a new level
And people wonder why drivers are treated with such contempt
Oh and

i know were not allowed to use the wash anymore[well its been a year or two actually],they now pay a bloke 20k ish to wash the trucks wheras we used to wash them ,you now have the washer washing them whilst the drivers stand there watching![]()

,i always thought it made more sense to set the wash going, push of a button and do your checks whilst it was washing the truck, but if they want to waste 20k let them waste it.
That’s the way it should be, they are providing employment for someone.
Bloody eck ive heard it all now
How do we manage when been away 6-8 weeks or longer
Stop for fuel or break if mirrors windows want cleaning do it
Ref windscreen esp bugs in summer abroad pull into garage
Wipers on and hosepipe clears 90% of it
If got brush then totally clean
Do you ask your planner to wipe yr ■■■ for you to
No wonder this industry getting worse
Even if was hourly paid i would clean windscreen mirrors in my time
End of day your licence and if that dirty your conciuos if u killed someone because you hadnt cleaned windscreen

All the more reason to check them
it wouldn’t be the first time a truck has been turned out of a workshop after an oil change with no oil in the sump

id normally agree with you,but as there always bleating on about costs then it really makes no sense to me,but as i say if they want to pay someone 20k to do what i always have done as part of the job let them get on with it

Half hour to clean a windscreen what are you using a toothbrush.
That’s for the drill square! Daft, ■■■■■■ daft, ■■■■■■ daft, ■■■■■■ DAFT!
i can see a dcpc session on this in future … the drivers day including what to do if you cant see out of your windscreen, health and safety of cleaning a windscreen, correct use of a harness for working at heights, correct attire for using chemicals for cleaning a windscreen. thats why it takes more than half hour!
but really your moan is you dont get paid for the 1min it will take you to clean a screen wtf get a grip

hes moaning[and hes good reason too] because all he wanted to do was wash his windscreen, there the ones who said you cant,we wont pay you etc,ive never had the same issue as him,ive never been told id be docked pay,but if it ever came to that i guess id feel as agrieved as he does,i bet hes just your normal driver who just wants to get on with his job and some idiot of a planner keeps putting obsticales in his way
i hear so much of this these days, planners /managers interpiting what theyve been told to suit there themselfes,i bet if you spoke to someone high up and said is it o.k to wash my windscreen theyd say fine, wash it and on you go,not NO,and if you do will dock your pay.
the lad shouldnt be getting any grief its the idiots who are comming up with this ■■■■■■■■
My preferred option is if there is a pressure washer lance lying around hooked up and ready to go I’ll use that to give the mirrors, windows and windscreen a blast. When I worked on the cherry pickers I was often told that I wasn’t paid overtime to wash the lorries but felt that I should at least keep it clean, and so whenever the pressure washer was out (portable unit) then I’d remove the furriness of the bonnet and windscreen.
What I could do with is something hard and durable to carry to prise the fly carcasses off the windscreen where the wipers and washer fluid won’t shift it.
2 hours down the motorway in rain and wipers on constantly shifted it though When you’ve got your own truck or a vehicle that you are often in or even one of several then it is easy to carry a ‘cleaning’ kit with you…
if the boss is giving you grief over washing your windscreen at the end of your shift, do it at the beginning.
That way if he is asking why you are over the alloted time your reason will not be “washing windscreen” but “fuelling up” or similar.
Like most on here I have a real problem as to how any driver for any company can be so browbeaten that he daredn’t wash his windscreen and as said by a previous poster I would be tempted to push it and see what happens … and then see the planner attempt to justify his instructions.
(what was the question…do we need unions?)

our depot as banned us from washing our motors in the week and said theyll be done on weekend…well mine aint been done for 3 weeks …windscreen was a right mess cause of dead flies and insects all smeared to when ive tried to clean with wipers …told my planner today that im gona wash it in goole as i was in there getting parked up and had time to…i was told no im not allowed so when i said it was my licence i was told if i do wash it i wont get paid for the time it takes
OK ‘ady1’ this is what the op’s is moaning about, not being able to wash the truck during the week but as the windscreen is part of the truck it’s obviously something that can only be cleaned when the whole vehicle is washed
Maybe if ‘stvme2519’ had just cleaned the windscreen in the way that has been described by numerous posters instead of telling the planner he was going to get it washed in Goole, which sounds very much like he means the whole truck and not just the windscreen, none of this nonsense would have happened
But as it appears he is an ESL driver I think this was a bit of a wind up post to get the ESL slaggers on here to have another go at them. I don’t believe for one moment that the op is so stupid as to think that anyone believes that you need permission from a planner to clean your windscreen or maybe he/she is that stupid
I’m sure some of the other ESL driver’s who post on here cringe and hide when they read some of the purile stuff that their work colleagues come up with, keeping your field of vision clear from the inside and the outside is the drivers responsibility, always has been and always will be, you do not need to wash the whole vehicle to clean your windscreen and I do not believe for one minute that you have to get permission from a planner to clean that windscreen.
Regards
Dave Penn;
what is it with todays drivers, and managers?
managers that love to dictate, and manipulate rules. and drivers that do the same with already manipulated rules, just so they can do less, want more, and moan more.
[zb] off to greece you lazy tossers.
I am doing, next Monday Phil.
But I’ll be back!!
Hasn’t ESL publicly said he wanted the trucks kept clean and tidy? If it was a matter of getting the screen done then surely it would just be easier to drive down to the wash bay and either ask the guys there to lance wash the screen or do it your [zb] self!!!
