COCAINE was found in a man’s truck after he crashed it drink-driving.

Paul Davies’s vehicle was involved in an accident in Enderley Street, Newcastle, at 10.35pm on July 24 last year.

Police searched his vehicle after he gave a positive breath test and found 5.44 grams of cocaine inside.

Davies tried to hide more cocaine down the back seat of the police car after his arrest.

The 41-year-old father-of-two, of Mayfield Place, May Bank, admitted possession of 2.027 grams of cocaine and possession of 5.44 grams of cocaine with intent to supply — on the basis the smaller amount was for his own personal use and he was looking after the larger amount for someone else. He denied being a drug dealer.

The drugs had a total value of between £265 and £331.

Nick Tatlow, mitigating, said Davies has dabbled in cocaine in the last 18 months.

Judge Paul Glenn handed Davies a two-year community order with supervision and 240 hours’ unpaid work. He must also pay £500 costs.

The judge told him: “You are by and large a hardworking man. You have been an absolute idiot over the last 18 months getting yourself involved in cocaine.”

Davies was banned from driving for two years in August for the drink-driving offence.
