Just got in and there were two envelopes from dealers on mat (amongst bills) so I opened them with great anticipation and:-
1 was from scania and was just a brochure with no prices or quote at all
The other was from DAF offering me
£18,000 + VAT for my old vehicle sight unseen
and quoting me
£74,597.00 for a 480hp S/S/C with 2 year warranty and 3 year PMI
(this is for a FTR which is a rear lift as they dont do a mid lift unless you want small wheels on it)
£2,400 for 530hp
£2,340 for auto box
no price for an R & M contract
still heard nothing from VOLVO or IVECO I will be ringing MERC next week to ask them to quote me and possibly RENAULT to quote on a magnum with the VOLVOlump in it
The above quote is about 10 grand more than I was expecting and that is before you add the auto box,530 upgrade, roof mounted air con and anything I think of later
Sean, that quote is unreal!!
Theres plenty of 95 XF 6x2 twinsteers around??
My quote from daf was £55750 for a 4x2 ssc 480 low ride!
Anyway I just ordered my new truck, a 4x2 low ride R420 topline with opti-cruise & retarder, fridge freezer etc. I got the retarder & polished ali wheels thrown in for not buying a Volvo.
I got it for the £1000 less than i paid for my topline Scania in 2000!!
Got to wait til november for it though!
I still cant get over your quote!!
I know they do the twin steer but I want to be able to lift the axle when not needed and this was the only option if I didn’t want either small wheels on a midlft or twin wheels on a rear lift.
I did ask about a rear lifting & steering axle as fitted on their rigids but they cant do that
so that is what I’m left with it’s a pity really because the DAF was my favourite option
I shall chase up VOLVO & IVECO I’ll give MERC’S a ring in fact I’ll probably ring all the others & see if any of them actually wants to sell me a vehicle with a realistice quote?
I’ve driven one of these when I was on an agency ,It is a v.v.good truck
excellent on fuel, nice drive etc etc but I couldn’t live with that engine hump everyday especially as I spend more time in my truck than I do in my home.

Skuusy, for butting in, but, The newer DAF 85 Spacecab is one fine Truck. It has an enormous amount of storage space. And I for one can stand up in it, whilst stood on the engine hump. I’m 6ft 1in tall. I don’t rember having much trouble in one and I was away all week in it. I’d love to do Euro in one of those.
Must have AC though.
My problem isnt with height it is with width its just too much of a pain in the ■■■■■■ squeezing out of the hole where the pedals are to the flat bit with the head height
