New Scania

I’m more interested in driving position living space, and in cab comfort features nowadays, maybe an age thing who knows, but I would reckon Scania have looked at all the new models of other marques and matched and sometimes surpassed some of the ‘living in’ features.
Let’s just wait and see.

The same Scania that in 2016 still sells brand new lorries with make it yourself beds? They aren’t exactly renowned for their first class interiors

I know what you mean, but that’s my point, I would like to think they have improved on that. I didn’t know they were still using that design to date.
Tbh the last Scania I had full time was the older one with the bed on the roof which was the best truck bed I’ve slept in.

From the brief look I managed to get of the inside (wasn’t much to see really as the rear of the cab was full of electronics and the driver kindly tapped me on the head with a lump of wood!) but the driving area looked like it had been changed round a bit

What’s old fashioned about that? Seriously some people…

I don’t mind sleeping outside in this weather, but must have been a pain in the rain?

For all that ain’t got no paint to watch dry on 23 8 16

I’d rather watch Hayley McQueen dry! :stuck_out_tongue:

Why would they launch it in Paris? They should launch it at home in Sweden in my opinion

Maybe they think Paris is pretty Central for Europe, loads of regular flights across Europe and good links for driving or even arriving by train.
Which means the Journalists and Haulage company bosses don’t spend to much time away from the office, so are more likely to attend and get wined and dined and impressed.

Well as we all know, there are two types of driver in this world.

Drivers that drive a Scania and drivers that want to drive a Scania, and me who doesn’t care what he drives.

So that’s three, three types of driver.

No no you’re wrong,there’s 5

1/ those who can’t count
2/ those with bad memories
2/those with bad memories

So you see 4 types.

All of Volvo’s truck designers will be watching the new Scania launch with great interest, it’s where all the new designs for the FH5 will come from, remember when Volvo had the F88 and Scania the LB 110/111-140/141, so Volvo thought we need a squarer cab to match Scania, so in 1977 came the boxy upright wind screened F10/ F12, a couple of years later Scania bring out the 2 series, oh dear think Volvo truck designers they have reverted to a slightly sloped windscreen again, in doing so they have gained a fuel advantage Over us, fast forward to 1993, the launch of the FH12/FH16, hey Scania try matching this for a windscreen rake :grimacing:, we’ll give you sloping screens and then some, who cares that the driver has to sit on the bunk to drive it, why would distance drivers need large cupboards anyway, fast forward to 1996, the launch of the 4 series, oh ■■■■ Scania have done away with the sloping screen, it’s got tons of room for 1996 and they have the hugely admired V8 which sounds awesome, our sixteen litre goes as well as the V8 but sounds pants :frowning: , and so the cycle continues…

And yet Volvo is one of the biggest truck companies on the planet and Scania…Scania is a VW subsidiary that has to raid the MAN parts bin…and let’s not forget Volvo owned Scania for a time till the EU made them sell it. Yup, Scania are soooooooo amazing…

I always thought it sounds like the Jolly Green Giant after a Vindaloo :astonished:

I dont know if they do sell those beds now, My 65 plate, and all our 65 plate toplines(R450’s), have the slide out bed that used to be in the V8’s as standard, or on the options list. Though tbh I prefer the DIY bed, well to be really honest, I prefer the 4 series as several others have mentioned, I wonder if our slightly larger colleagues had trouble getting in and out of the 4 series bed, and that’s why they whinged so much

I’m not fussy either, I don’t care what Scania I drive

[Although with Scania they have 2 markets really, the fleet market, who won’t care what it looks like as long as the figures stack up .

On that note, Mine returned 11 mpg last week, though I didn’t have any top weight boxes, no reefers for instance, and only 1 scrap box, but I’ve never returned 11mpg out of any truck. and the half dozen other R450’s we have on the fleet are always near the top too. Were as the FH4 500’s and the 106 510’s are spread from top to bottom of the returns, that just goes to show that even with this eco roll and other fuel saving wizardry, the driver still has a big influence on the fuel returns.

I totally agree that the driver has the biggest part to play in fuel economy. For arguments sake, volvos I roll only works if the driver switches it on

Scania every time , the top liners are extremely easy and comfortable to drive with excellent image . The newish 65 plate bed in mine is fine but the 4 series is without dought the best I have slept in wound what the horse power is goin to be in the v8s … It’s only a wagon but most of us spend 5 days in them so hopefully it will be something special am sure there will be a Volvo face lift in pipe line , with more horsepower as well

A Volvo face-lift with more horsepower? Isn’t 750 enough? The biggest thing Volvo could do to transform the look.of the FH is get rid of that annoying plastic bit below screen and move badge to grille

R143-500 your synopsis on Volvo copying Scania was most enlightening. The only bit I’m struggling with is Volvo launched the globetrotter in 1979 and Scania didn’t offer more headroom until about 1989 ? And not properly until the 4 series in 1996.

Don’t go bursting his bubble now will you! I like how he thinks everything has been invented by Scania! Wonder if he’s driven an FH4, literally nothing in here owes anything to Scania.

I thought the Renault range T was an ugly f[ZB]er, then i saw this…

They’ve only really changed the front of the cab by the looks of it might be more changes under the skin. As said my 4 series had Tue best living space(had the locker pack too) and bed I’ve had in a truck the r series v8 I’m in at Tue moment is good plenty of room to move about. The volvos we have I’ve had a look but compared to the scania it doesn’t feel as roomy
