New registrations

Got overtaken by a transporter the other day and the vans loaded on it had the new september plates on eg, AB 60 CDE.
So how does the 60 correspond to september 2010 then, can anyone enlighten me please? Its probably obvious and i’m being a bit thick :unamused:

58 = 2008
59 = 2009
60 = 2010

Just me assuming but i reckon 2011 might be 61 ?

As far as i know Mutley , the September reg became a 52,53,54 etc because its 5 months on from the original year reg. So dont know where the 60 reg has come from. :confused:

Not quite, September is six months on from March not five. The number is the same as the year for registrations from March through August then has 50 added to it for the registrations from September through
February, so 10, for 2010, + 50 = 60. then we have 11 for 2011 and add 50 in September for 61 and so on. This system will work until 2049 when we will have 49 and 99 but something new will be needed for 2050 as it would take us to a three digit number.

Thanks Coffeeholic,thats that cleared up . :unamused: Nearly right, must try harder. :laughing:

So thats it then, thanks for the replies i’m sure it makes sense to the dvla
