Tappy:
although its not a v8 and i’m cautious about turbo compound i’m a huge fan of a tag so this is defo in the running if it was my choice,
being a 480 its got EGR so its euro4 so cheeper tax?? and opticruise to boot is a plus from me.
I’d swerve it if I were you, that Opticruise is awful & I’m not in favour of EGR, you don’t eat what comes out of your arse, why expect an engine to do the same? Obviously Scania, MAN & Volvo know a lot more about it than I do so probably best to ignore that bit
What’s wrong with the current one? Apart from the silly curtains

7 years old and over a million k’s. Age is takin its toll. Not keen on opti cruise, but tappy seemed to like his so i’m willin to look into it
Fair point, it’s getting on a bit now, but if it ain’t broke… You could end up with a load of trouble, mind you it’s probably a good time to buy now with the market on it’s arse.
Opticruise is probably the worst autobox out there at the moment, the clutch is good for manouvering but the rest of it is nowhere as good as I-shift for example.
Does it have to be a Scania? The FH with I-shift is a real tool too & the dealers are pretty good up your way. There are probably a good few left after the Innovate collapse, they’re pretty decent spec.

Denis F:
nope, sorry, it needs to be euro 5 with the electronics to restrict the power if certain criteria are not met to qualify for the cheaper road tax
and what’s with the livery on that truck
it’s a good job Mr V would more thsan likely get it resprayed
opticrusie isnt to bad granted not a patch on the i shift, but i dont mind mine,if you know how to use it corrrectly!!! it takes some catching plus you still have clutch control as it is only a semi auto after all not a fully auto like i shift etc
Them Moody v8’s set you back £39k… The R580 he has is £50k… I had a shot of a 580 last week for couple of days and it pulled like hell, from Scotland to London and back up not one thing went by us on flat and hills even when fully loaded at 43t… Dunno if MPG gauge is working right but at 43 from Scotland to London it returned 6.5mpg

43t and 58mph dont work well together but I dont know if that old trip computer works the best… Maybe best doing it manually but then again I dunno how much fuel we put in… When he ran without trailer it more or less doubled to 12.5mpg…

Rob i had a 55 plate opti that kept blowing fuses scantruck couldnt find the fault and told me to send it out and let it progress sent it to crawley loaded up 20t in 20 ft box coming home just before m25 on m23 went from 55 to 30 in one hit f/////// drive tyres and blew the gearbox apart never seen nothing like it 30 years of having motors all the opti we had in that depot had niggles but that was the worst .wont say to much pm me in this climate tag along till the summer mate better the ba##### you know than one you dont and i agree with newmercman on turbo compound never had it before
shuttlespanker:
you must be talking about that pile of ■■■ scania
Wont be the 580 buddy, that thing keeps pulling, can fairly say its on a par if not better than the 620 V8 I drove earlier this summer… Must admit they dont drop in pulling power when faced with a hill, unlike the DAF.
have you drove the newer scania yet make sure you do first for a couple of weeks if you can its an awful truck the engine is good had the 580 and 420 on demo both good on fuel the better been the 580 the opti box though is absolutely rubbish complete pants dont touch it plus the interior is cheap and nasty the bottom bunk is a joke and it may just be me but the seat is very uncomfortable got out both of them with them with bad back pain the older scania is alot better motor i was shocked at how bad a wagon it was sorry to say it but the fh with i shift is easily the better wagon
it just so happens im in an 560 opti at the
moment its ok but im not impressed.
470 turbocompound ive had one since new in april 04 and its never missed a beat to me its heavy on fuel but if remapped should get decent mpg ( oh and its a full classic) it has 778k on the clock at the moment. if you can get one thats been looked after then they are a good motor
personally id go for an R480 and remap it
as in standard form they arent that good and fuel is rubbish running 44t from imingham to trafford it was struggling to get 6.5 (even my 470 will see 7.4) now its just short of 8.7 havimg been uped to 550. the v8 are on about 8.5 ish on the same run the 560 opti usually returns 8.4ish
