New Merc

If your happy with your new motor then **** em’

I clearly remember the feeling the first time I had a brand new motor, I came back from my summer holiday and had a phone call on the Sunday afternoon “don’t drive your old truck on Monday there’s a new one in the yard” totally out of the blue, I was 23 years old and picked up the keys to a brand new 1834 Merc and I loved it.

Just remember the Truck Net rules, no frilly curtains (half drawn or otherwise) no driving with sunglasses in the rain, no tat in the cab EG: dream catchers number plates with your name on or any other tasteless items, and last and by no means least no ******* front fog lamps in good weather, Enjoy.

Well thanks to all the comments on my pic.Good and bad.Did’nt post the pic to brag about getting a new motor. As my last one is only coming up to being a year old.As has been mentioned this is a new shape of witch at the moment there is’nt many about.Have had plenty of people taking an interest in it though and on the whole seem to realy like it.As for driving it and living in it I can’t fault it.The only optional extra with it was the fridge. And no there won’t be any frilly curtains or name plates and defo no dream catchers.Boss won’t allow them antway.Sha’nt be spending any of my hard earned on light bars or bling for outside either.

I think truckulent has a very good point, well more than one actually and he is allowed to post his point of view on here so why do the usual whingers try to put him down,I,ve had a number of new motors but they belong to the firm not me they are a work tool,I refuse to get excited or spend excessive time B,sing the bosses property, they get enough out of me without a free cleaning service, thank you, goodnight.

Well whatever ‘Truckulent’ thinks about this there is nothing better than being given a brand new to truck to drive
In an industry were you get crap from nearly everybody you meet getting a new motor is usually the only kind of praise you get and it always feels good especially if transport is in yer blood :exclamation:

@OP your new motor looks great and having had look over a GiGa space at the CV show this year I wish it was me taking it out :grimacing: It looks like Mercedes have raised the bar for truck development once again  Can’t wait to see the new Volvo.

Jealousy seems to be rearing it’s ugly head here. No matter how folk try to disguise it with their snide remarks. Good luck with yer’ nice motor buddy. ■■■■ everyone else.

Slowly seeing more of these Actros on the roads and make me do a double take every time, stunning looking trucks. So far the Pollocks one has been the nicest, but the plain silver (with painted lower half) seems to suit them really well.

Hope she’s good to ya, pal!

The name of this forum is TRUCKNET I beleave so a guy posts a picy of his new TRUCK and is pleased about bein given a new TRUCK surley he is doin nothing wrong
And surley if you are on TRUCKNET you except to see pics of TRUCKS and discuss them in general and things associated with them
I could be wrong tho as I’m only A TRUCK DRIVER so according to most I’m not that clever
If your not interested in pics of TRUCKS or having discussions about TRUCKS praps you should try a different Internet forum

+1

I read this thread looking to see what the OP had to say about the new Merc since we run an all Merc fleet and no doubt will soon have the new Actros. Instead of useful info it’s full of bloody handbag swinging . This is a truck related forum; the topic is about a truck. Get over it. :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp:

Nice one…the only poster than hasn’t said ‘baa, baa, baa, baa, baa baaaaaaaaaaa.’

I’m very pleased for the guy, I’m sure his new Merc is fantastic - I merely asked what all the fuss was about…and why people feel the need to post about it!! I am not in the least bit jealous - I do not covet things that other people are using that actually belongs to someone else…How can anyone be jealous of someone else’s wagon - when in 99% of cases - it’s not theirs… :unamused: Especially as, if you are tramping in it, you are effectively minding it every night for nothing…

I’m sure lots of people are happy to get a new office chair/laptop/iphone at work - but I doubt they post pictures on internet forums of it and say ‘look at my new shiny office chair’… I also doubt they spend unpaid time cleaning the chair but, each to their own…!

To those of you that think I’m nasty - well, I’m not but I would say that wouldn’t I? You may have already met and talked to me at an RDC or port…or other delivery…you never know fellas.  :grimacing:

I hope the OP enjoys his new wagon as it happens…but I still don’t get it…and I think those of you that feel I’m not allowed to say so, jealous blah blah, need to get over the fact that not getting a stiffy on over new tractors doesn’t make your opinion any less valid. I tend to work agency/direct and I get a huge variety of trucks, including brand new ‘stiffy’ standard…perhaps I should post pics on here for the gratification of some of the membership…

Cheers fellas… :grimacing:

They probably don’t go on ‘office forums’ either - we don’t work in an office, there’s no comparison.

I’d rather be ‘minding that wagon’ than an old low roof daf cf for example.

Get over yourself and stop derailing other peoples topics and being a troll you sad git

But these are all side issues and crap you’ve brought up and implied when all the OP did was post a picture of their new lorry and state they were happy. It means other forum member might spot him and it’s not hard to imagine someone might be pleased that their daily work and living space is going to be brand factory smell new and what’s considered one of the best or most exciting new trucks around.

If you were going to post on this thread again all you had to say was ‘sorry I’ve been a knob, didn’t really think about what I was posting’.

I thought plenty about it. And I still don’t get all the fuss…

I agree with your first statement…but that merely came about due to the abuse I received for not saying how marvellous the new Merc was though and how much I wanted one…

As ever, when drivers on here are disagreed with they resort to abuse and name calling… :unamused:

It’s called a difference of opinion. We have them all the time, in all walks of life.

Armagedon:
DV according to my mate the braking system left much to be desired coming down Mont Blanc seems and I only have secondary comment the vehicle is offered with 3 set ups,the stage 2 this Giga had was an engine brake the equivalent of the old exhaust brake system and at extra cost could have been offered with stage 3 a far superior engine braking system.I have not driven the rig myself and it could be the driver was not familiar with the Merc.Do remember the editor of Trucking International said the braking system was lacking feel while this lot would rather ■■■■■ their wrists than slag of Mercedes, advertising revenue.Your feed back would be valuable even I would concur MB couldn’t have been stupid enough to offer this rig with faults, but they are German and they did before.

Hi Armagedon.Well my week with the new merc is over.till next week i mean. Not for good.Must say i was impressed with just about everything on it.Did’nt find a problem with the brake setup. But then again i have not driven anything else apart from mercs for the last seven years.Mine has got the 3 stage brake setup so might have made a difference.Sorry not much help but i can’t really compare them to other vehicles.

You [zb]! I hate you! I actually hate you! I’m so jealous :frowning:

No, I don’t get it.

If you worked in an office, would you get excited over a posh chair to sit in?! And a fancy printer and laptop??

It’s just a wagon. Quite a nice wagon I’m sure…but who cares?? :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Incidentally the last Merc I drove was a shed…mind you, it had big k’s on it and was a 59 plater…

funny you say that, I used to work in a spot where the lad in the office almost creamed himself over a new chair with adjustable back support and a new flat screen monitor. So yeah everyone’s at it. I’ve never had a brand new motor before, nearly new or a year old but never the new. Maybe one day! Saying that we’re supposed to be getting new axors soon… Can’t I keep the Actros??

I have to laugh when people make generalizations along the lines that anyone being issued eith a brand new top spec truck to drive is a fool because they should have had a higher wage instead.
Is there any bosses out there who might actually make a decision not to order a new truck and to transfer the finance payments into the drivers wages instead?
In my 20 year experience of being a driver, the alternative to getting a new truck to drive/live in is simply driving/living in the old one.

P.s… That is a very nice looking piece of kit Daft Vader. If I was still in the UK I would be excited to be issued with it and pleased that my boss wanted me to drive it.

Cheers wire. Definitely happy with the truck. But i will add that we are also well i think anyway reasonably well paid to.We could all do with more money. But with the way things are in the uk and elsewhere at the moment it might be some time before things improve.

What’s it like inside ?

Is it roomy ? Alot of storage like the Scania topline got?

And does the passager seat go right to the back of the cab? Or it only on the left hand drive models?

Nice bit of kit DV

Very nice inside. Not to sure about the interior colour.Beige and black.More beige than black.Going to be a bugger to keep clean.

Got a fair amount of storage.Pretty much the same as the actros it replaces. But as it’s a vigger cab.The lockers above youur’e head are bigger. You lose the small outside locker under the big one on the drivers side. But keep the one on passenger side.

The passenger seat is the same as the older model. But like yoou say there is a version that goe’s right back to the wall.Would of been nice that. But I’m not complaining it is a big improvement over the older actros.
