Do you have built in company phones? If so how come you didn’t ring up the office and say “would you mind terribly if i swing by my house to grab my phone?” that way your arse is covered if they say yes but you also know where you stand if they say no.Also did I read somewhere that you are a day driver? If so why couldn’t you do without it for just that one shift? At the end of the day mate it was your ■■■■ up and it was your personal phone, explain to me then why it was the companies responsibility, duty and money to correct that ■■■■ up?
I personally think you are being a bit Naive here and if I’m honest quite childish too, nothing personal against you EB it’s just how this particular situation has come across to me.
Yes the guy in the office sounds like a right weaselly little prick, I’m not arguing that, but you put yourself into the position in the first place.
I would have gone without my phone for the day tbh, unless I was expecting a really really important call, I can’t see how you can justify going to get it.
Just remember that all the egging on and encouragement you get off everyone else here concerning the 45 hrs off, is from people who couldn’t really give a flying [zb] if you got sacked on Monday or not, they won’t be out of a job, they’ll just be entertained by Monday evenings update from you, think very carefully how you handle it is all I’m saying.
Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Did you not read the forum rules. Rule one - don’t make sensible posts. It spoils it for everyone else.
You see that company that he couldn’t hack working for? yeah the one with green wagons. When it was one big company I often went off route. Never a problem if I let them know i was nipping home. Mind you it was normally for a doctor or dentist appointment and my planner would get me work in the area.
Recently I phoned my transport manager because i needed to go for a scan at hospital in Glasgow. I suggested a way of working it so I’d only be a few hours off work and 25 miles off route (empty) and not needing to run the wagon back to the yard and take a day off. Not a hassle. Even worked it to get a 3 hour break so didn’t really loose that much working time.
What the semi aquatic rodent has not done is stuck at a job long enough to build up trust. Do the work and don’t take the ■■■■ and then if you genuinely need to nip home/finish early/start late etc etc it shouldn’t be a problem. It’s a two way street at the end of the day.
