Unfortunately my current employer (Downton) have this morning shown themselves to be the same snivelling piles of crap as most other general haulage companies.
Yesterday the truck I have had for a few months was taken off me and given to a new starter, and I was handed an 11 plate steaming pile of damaged and stinking turd. Thought this was a bit odd but didn’t kick up a fuss.
This morning I have had a letter from head office ‘inviting’ me for an interview about misconduct because I have attended my home address in the truck, and ‘gone off route’. It appears the ‘head planner’ at Runcorn (a strange character called Ben) has been spying and telling tales. Funnily enough this chap has just rung me with my start time for Monday. He didn’t like it when I asked him if he enjoys spying on the drivers, and replied “Just doing my job”. To which I replied "Good…I will be doing mine on Monday by telling all the drivers I can find that you are spying on them ".

3 months at DHL made me realise im not cut out for blue chip companies that phone you 20 times a day asking why you are 7mins behind the time the computer software said it would take.

Ahhh the good old days when you could go home for a bit if nearby, not really possible now without an inquisition unless your not tracked obviously. Anyway give Wincanton a try they are great so ive heard.
Get on boxes tramping you can do what you want within reason…
How much was it a detour to get to your home address? It would be understandable if it is way off route but sounds petty if it’s just a couple of miles.

Is there a connection between the heinous crime that you ought to be ashamed of yourself for, and the changing of your truck btw??
If you did go off route slightly and call in at home for a coffee (as I sometimes do) would it not have been better for that snivelling little 2at (I don’t know him but I can feel the hairs on my neck standing up just by what you have told me ) to give you the heads up along the lines of "Make that the last EagerB mate, you know how these lot go over the top with anything like this’’ instead of creeping to his boss and making it official so he can make a name for himself…sounds as if he has not been thumped enough in his miserable virginal life.
That way you would have at least have an element of respect for him, instead of wanting to smother him.
I would hate to work for a firm like that, but it looks as if many are going that way until the day it will become the norm, hopefully I will be well out of the game by that time.
Here’s the plan bud…Why not play the little sht at his own game, report him for disturbing your weekly rest, and re.start the max rest period from when he put the phone down…go on do it…pleeease what have you to lose if you are jacking anyway.

My office have called me once in the past 2 weeks, for an ETA. I call them when I’m tipped and that’s it. Sometimes can go 4 or 5 days without speaking to them if I’m tipped early on Thursday say and am tipping at the other end of the country (after a stock load or 2) on Tuesday. Plus being based at neither main depot means I don’t even need to see any office bods.
Decent company + not being a useless spakker = peace and quiet.

I’ve only ever worked for “blue chip” companies since starting full time driving in 2006. I have never experienced such calls. They ring me if there’s a problem or a change in plan and that’s about it. They know I’ll call if there’s a problem - even if it’s one I’ve resolved by myself anyway - and they are happy to just leave me to get on with the job.
