Jelliot:
I always liked the Volvo ad with the photo of the orange F 88 crossing the bit between H4 and Turaif. Of course it had a bucket hanging from the bumper.
I also likes the Savaim ad with truck some where up in the Turkish mountains with the sunset in the back ground.
Both ads were most likely in Truck magazine, Head light didn’t usually run ads like that.
Jeff
I think this is the picture you mean, Jeff! Robert
That’s the one Robert, have you got the Saviem ad as well■■?
I spent hours drawing that on the front cover of my history home work book ( jotter ) I never did find out what order the kings and queens of Britain came in.

Like you my history books contained my schoolboy lorry drawings and like you I still don’t know the kings and queens. And probably like you, given the opportunity to pilot that F88/9 across H4 tomorrow afternoon instead of knowing the kings and queens, I’d go for the Volvo every time! Robert
Knowing the difference between a Volvo F88 and Daf 3300, was a lot more beneficial to me than knowing how tall Napoleon was, or how to do algebra.
I thought that as Saviem had started this thread there might be a few more Saviem Ads on it… How about it… Put the Bolly down for a few moments and get old ads on here. I’m sure the spuds can wait in the mud for a few more hours…
the buckets got a bit devalued , every wannabe with an old 88 or f10 had a bucket on the tow pin and an assortment of stickers ( bought at the local travel shop )plastered on the cab . the silly sods would get lost going to london . anyway the real distance men had a suntan in december . cheers , dave

You will notice that it was an Oryx tractor as well
I know the bucket was a TIR thing, but what was the purpose?
I don’t think there was a purpose but anyway they weren’t ‘proper’ unless they had a yellow ‘Euro Duck’ sticker that you could buy from fuel stations in Belgium!
Does anyone remember the cartoon on the back of the Shredded Wheat packet done like a comic book, where the Wife answers the phone saying, ‘‘He’s only just got back from that Dundee haul’’ and then you see him off in his Foden FG 8 legger.

Now that sounds very likely. Phil Llwelyin did some marvellous LDDs at that time. It would be great if someone could find the artical. Robert
