The Lightweight K series Foden was I believe the first eight wheeler chassis they made with all wheels braked. It had lightweight axles and brakes (and just single drive) the four speed gearbox and MK 6 two stroke engine. Most production models had the fiberglass S21 cab which saved another cwt or so giving 17 3/4 ton payload @ 24 tons gross, I don’t think it was that popular though and it must have been a bit underpowered with just the four speed gearbox and stroker engine. One thing about Fodens, they were never afraid to experiment and try different things!

Hello all,

Speaking of favourite TV adverts… Would any members be interested in featuring in an ad of your own?

I’m writing from a TV production company who have recently been asked to make a series of documentary style TV commercials for a major British food brand.

We’re looking to film with British lorry drivers who make long, trips away from their families in the UK. We’d explore the issues of loneliness, separation and then reunion. We’d like to film with them out on the road (ideally along a scenic, remote part of the route) and then join them as they return home to their families at the end of the job. Essentially, we’re looking to film the moment they come together with their family for a meal after time spent apart. All in all we’d aim to film with our driver for 2-4 days in total. We would be able to pay the drivers a fee for their time.

Do get in touch if you’re interested and would like to hear more!
Either post below or send an email to the contact below stating name, age, location and brief details of routes covered & family members left behind in the UK.

I hope to hear from you soon,

Best wishes,

Anna Martin

Great advert - I bet BL loved it! I drove a Sherpa to Nottingham and back once and that was enough for me! Are you the one leading the camel? Robert

Was the photo of the ‘broken down’ Mack staged Andy, for the advert, or was that the genuine brake down location? If so, where was it taken.

Hi cja1 the yorkie advert went like this ,big rich & thick a milk chocolate bar each one a very big mouthfull yorkie and me rolling on

I remember it as “good rich and thick and milk chocolate brick” but it’s a long time ago

Hi gardener you may be right I know it went something like it what good old days

I always liked the Volvo ad with the photo of the orange F 88 crossing the bit between H4 and Turaif. Of course it had a bucket hanging from the bumper.
I also likes the Savaim ad with truck some where up in the Turkish mountains with the sunset in the back ground.

Both ads were most likely in Truck magazine, Head light didn’t usually run ads like that.

The photo was staged and taken somewhere south of Izmir just off the main highway to Aydin.
