Anybody remember “pennine pete”,think he was from the Chesterfield area.
Drove Eurotech wagon +drag and was a bit of a Francis Rossi lookalike as i recall
Anyway fed him and subbed him bout 50.000 lira @ Bologna one weekend circa 1990 ish
If you do tell him Andy (red +white 3600 ati) says hello
Strick a light guvnor, reading this has brought back a few memories, started at the same time as Paul from Telford but only did about six months, was a good craic though. last time I saw Craig and Geordie John they were on for Speditrans out of Dover. Craig had left Fabian. Think (but not sure) that they might be on shopping trolleys. Anyone remember Neil Hobbs, from the west country. He used to love making camion cuisine, all from fresh ingedients… Scottish Dave with the ponytale, and (buggre can’t remember his name) big guy who went out with Cal before Paul. Think he was Ian Rush’s brother. And many others…
big guy who went out with Cal before Paul
you mean tiny
Yesh mate, grand lad, last saw him about eight years ago on sea chance…
bazfrombenidorm, Paul & Cal are still together and run two of there own motors
they usually pull flats on for Kingspan out of Flint
Pauls is the Iveco & Cal
s is the Magnum
Muppets eh…theres a few memories. In general they were young inexperienced drivers more interested in getting their legover the lady drivers and making Carisio or the Wheelhouse for the weekend. However, like all those mega companies there were some good drivers. I remember parking up next to a Murfitt driver who was half cast glaswegian at Hebay. At first I thought he was just another knob but he turned out to be a fantastic man who really had been in the Foreign Legion. He showed me his Legion d’honeur and photos of his time in this fantastic outfit.
Wombat was a great guy and a few others whose names I forget!
are you sure he was a glaswegian, the half caste ex legionaire on murfitts was from bradford, i suppose the accent could’ve been watered down after 7 years in the legion speaking only french,
you’re right though, he was a top bloke, he’s called paul or craig iirc
agreed also about wombat, another top bloke

He was called Kelvin, and came from the central belt area in Scotland and was happy as a sand boy so long as he had his guitar with him. I last saw him working for Speditrans years ago…
Bradford■■? Whatever.
you’re not wrong baz, as soon as i’d posted i had his accent in my head, i knew his name was the same as a few others on murfitts at the time, i picked the wrong one.
he was either living in the bradford area or he came to murfitts from a bradford firm.
It was probably Kelvin… top bloke we spent a weekend at Meer together alongside some guys from a fridge firm from Great Yarmouth ( cant remember the name of the company but I remember they were running strawberries !! ).
Also caught up with him one night at Campo but too late to really enjoy his tales
Kevin it was! He played a guitar and had a 12 volt Amp in the cab!
Campo! Remember those filthy toilets! Great restaurant though!

The portacabin ones on the lorry park were always filthy, but the proper inside ones weren’t to bad, or is my memory to alcohol filtered?
I had a quick word with Clint this week.
I noticed a British wagon heading south on the A4 in France, as I was heading north. Just for a change I saw it in time to flash my lights and wave .
Shortly after that I pulled up at Keskastel for a quick rest, cafe and to get my vignette.
I gave Clint a quick bell, to ask if it had been him.
It wasn’t, it was Sharpie, from Warsop (or is it Waasup ■■ )
wombat is back in australia now and settled down with the woman he took back with him. i believe he is doing local van driving.
Well, reading all this has brought back so many happy ‘Murfitt Memories’. Yes this is Telford Paul and Cal here and the information is correct about us having our own motors and pulling out of Kingspan in Flint. We live in Wrexham now and married in 2001. We are still extremely happy together so all those running a book on our relationship can now close it!!
A guy called Yella who works in Norfolk Lines office at Kingspan told us we were being talked about on here so curiosity got the better of us and we came on to have a look.
Hi to all those who remember us and to those who don’t.
Regards
Paul and Cal
Glad to see you found it cal, why arent you working today? if you are quiet, come and see me, i might be able to sort you something for the odd day
hiya paul and cal, its about time you got on here, bolton steve.
What happened to Ronnie Rackshit, was running under him back in the 90s, doing Northern Europe, cracking bloke got on well with him, if it couldnt be done do it the next day you Geordie wa-k-r was the reply, belter.
Been canny reading though the Murffets Daily.
the brewliners thread reminded me of an iveco unit that murfitts had, can’t remember if it was for a mccains job or the proctor & gamble (pringles) job in londerzeel
old moulding the fleet engineer had it stripped to racing weight, tiny tank, NO passenger seat, i think they even stripped the electric windows out of it
and although it seems hardly worth mentioning now, they had just about the first 6x2 (gaylift) lowride tractor around, on an experimental basis - driven by melvyn haynes, it spent more time in norfolk trucks than working, which suited melvyn perfectly i reckon! coincidentally the motor ended up with a mate of mine up near goole years later, running with a specialist forklift trailer and going well for a 10 year old iveco

As far as I know, he’s at Ewals.
