Mud flaps on wrong way round

I agree with rob on this one, maybe they have more money than sense…i cant understand why people spend lots of money telling everyone they drive a Volvo…Daf…Scania etc…when all of these trucks have the name across the grill anyway…then there are those who want to tell us how many horses they have as well…big letters painted on the side saying…450…470…580…etc…whats that all about…more money than sense…like the brigade who try and beat each other with how many spot lights they can fit on the front…ive seen 12...6 top..6 bottom...i never need anything more than my normal beams...Maybe they should work for a proper company like mine....you musnt show, name plates..cuddly toys..in fact nothing in the window except tax, o` licence…dart tags…no flags…spotlamps…the windscreen should be clear…if not you get a disciplinary…its because the company own the trucks…not the drivers…and on the days when they are resting…others drive those vehicles.

Rob K:
How the [zb] can it look “smart” and “mega sweet” and other such ridiculous comments? They have about the same use as putting the 5th wheel on backwards. Mud flaps are designed to stop mud so unless you do a lot of very fast speeds in reverse they are completely pointless. If you want people to know you’re driving a Volvo that much, why not just stick a couple of [zb] Volvo decals on the bottom corners of the front bumper? At least that way you won’t look a [zb] and you won’t be losing 1 mpg in consumption from the drag either.

Why are all truckers thick as [zb]? In all the time I’ve been driving them I can recall about 3 that actually had some intelligence. The rest were as stupid as these [zb] who don’t know where a mud flap should be mounted. Perhaps they should read the instructions that they come with. :bulb:

i was meaning this :unamused:

I really don’t care where people put their mud flaps, even if they put them on the roof, it’s al-right with me.
What I don’t understand that people even get annoyed with it, if it makes somebody happy, what the hell.
If people have so much time to get even wound up about it, I would like to think that you need to take a reality pill a get a life.
To make you truck look how you want to look it is called individualism and is each to their own.
I wouldn’t do it myself, I like a truck clean, standard looking with all the comforts inside, and have always spend a fortune on my comforts, video, dvd, widescreen, coffee machine, fridge, freezer, microwave etc.
But I don’t interest me one second if you spend half a fortune on paint-jobs, lights, mud-flaps, chrome etc.
If it make you feel individual and happy fine with me.
Why should we be all the same? We could all drive a Micra, gets you there and you don’t stand out, why would you spend your money on a faster car when the speed limit is 70? Why would you live in a 5 bedroom house, while you have only on e child, why do you buy designer gear?
WHY…because we want to and we can…THAT’S WHY!!!

Just to be clear as some seem to have drifted OT, I didn’t start this topic to turn into a rant about customisation. I was wondering when this mud flap lunacy started, which was answered by someone fairly early on (thanks). I thought it was a fairly recent thing like in past decade, but apparently it’s been going on since 70s at least :open_mouth: . I don’t have any issue with logo’d mud flaps at all, providing they’re fitted where they should be.

well said!!

The “Scammell Crusader” in the early 70s was the first wagon I saw with the mud flaps at the front and they were needed as there was a big gap above the bumper and a lot of spray was thrown up the front and they had a chain to the bumper to prevent them being pushed onto the front wheel as they were a full mud flap. The crusader was not very aerodynamically designed with a very flat front so they did a reasonably good job.

I sah it first when the F16 came out

I used an old Daf mudflap to cover my radiator grill on my series 2 landy during winter, made a change from a BATA feed bag…

were else can you fit them on a tractor unit or a rigid which has a body that is not classed as construction use? they have no spray supression!!!

its not ur truck so why do you care where they have the mud flaps & what they look like?

My limit is 85 pence every six weeks on a packet of wet wipes to wipe the smeg off the controls of my fleet baxxsore, however I do appreciate the effort made by others to improve their motor in any way they see fit.

They clearly love what they do and are often quite knowledgeable and professional and most of the blinged trucks look quite good, there are a minority (usually Swedish Bedfords) that look totally ridiculous, thankfully they are a minority.

The back to front mud flaps don’t look too bad when you compare them to the frilly gipsy caravan curtains and football stadium spotlamps ,but then good taste is not universal, live and let live.

The only mudflap I ever wanted was a full width one on the trailer, if it had a no entry sign on the right and a blue arrow on the left, all the better

I like the ones with “Overtaker, undertaker”

it’s to stop the blood from cyclists splashing onto the paintwork!

fpmsl

stuartrobbie:
i like them. I dont understand why there needs to be a big topic about it though, next weeks moan will be spotlights, followed by paintwork, then anything chrome.

I dont mean to be patronising but im almost certain the OP doesnt have a bog standard truck with no extras whatsover, nothing to make it a wee bit more like his!

We all have our creature comforts and our opinions on things! The fact there is a whole thread dedicated to it means they are being noticed and its a trend many want to continue!

Not much call for (or room) for mudlfaps at the front on an Astra Van

They were quite common on Volvos in the 80’s

<Pass this side /// Suicide>

Think I saw that in Convoy

I’ll tell you what Rob, these owner driver don’t half seem to have a lot of spare cash for front facing mudflaps, lights etc from a quid a mile and a Mars bar.

Are your rates still accurate? or is there a big market for reselling the mars bars?

Yes I’m with Mr Dream on this one. Why get irate. I look after my truck, I bought wheel trims for it, I keep it spotless, and it makes me happy. I just don’t get why people go on and on moaning about people who do these things. We’re all different, I wouldn’t have a go if someone wanted to spend money on a massive mortgage or a big car so leave me alone to spend my money how I wish. Simple.

2 pages about mudflaps the wrong way round.

All i said was…i dont see the sense…i did not say i am irate…i really dont care…but like everyone else…i comment…i comment about all sorts of things…but i am never irate…i wind up a lot more about people who get irate about people who say someone is irate even though they are not…so get irate about that…
i blinged up a motor once…put a red light in the cab…that was years ago…till i realised that the truck went no faster or earned me any more money…but still carried the essential kit that truckers need in order to give themselves comfort whilst away from home…

I am busy being irate here and it needs my full attention without any distractions so can you all stop talking please? Kthx.
