Genuine question your honour re this 750 thing.
You mention hauliers choosing 750hp lorries to make a statement, but to whom?
I can’t see most drivers being anything other than non plussed. It leaves me neutral. I don’t own a lorry so seeing a powerful one doesn’t make me feel anything. The one I get paid to drive goes up hills alright. No lorries are like old Seddons anymore, and it’s not mine anyway. They pay me it goes.
The public would look at a 750 badge equally blankly. It means nothing. That would only suggest its to try and impress haulage owners when the news comes out in commercial motor that xyz is buying a 750. Pretty uninspiring.
Don’t get me wrong, great looking motor they’ve given you. Now that bit does catch my eye. It looks comfortable!
It means everything!
Being able to haul 44 tonnes up long Autoroute gradients without dropping a gear, just squeezing the throttle a little bit more is what its about.
750hp though is a little ott for UK use as it’ll never really get put to good use on general haulage. I miss my old F16 470 and will be going for an FH 16 next year, theres absolutely nothing out there that compares to Volvos 16 litre engine, its just superb in every respect.
The OP’s truck is a great looking bit of kit and yet again Volvo have pulled it off with the very best looking truck on the market…

You’re not most drivers though are you. Everyone is different. Just because you don’t see the point doesn’t mean there is no point…
Fair enough. It was a genuine question, not a snipe. I was of the opinion most drivers would be non plussed but as you say if there are enough drivers out there for a haulier to believe the financial outlay be justifiable to impress then I take that. It’s an interesting stance, perhaps that is a cheaper way to attract some workers than headline pay rates over a longer term.
To clarify I didn’t say there was no point, clearly there must be for a business to buy one. I was curious to whom they’re trying to impress and for what reason.
When I was driving a DAF CF 380 I used to look at the 400 and 420 boys like my stare could melt them, green eyed demon was abundant in them days I can tell you!

When i had my 299hp F10 at 40 tonnes and splitting every gear i was the same…i desperately wanted the 360 or even better 400hp F12…how times have changed, im now driving a FH 500 and its no good, i want an F16
Have I just seen a fella in a blue shirt having a play in the lorry Luke? I came out of Farmfoods at about 1.30 and saw it pulling a Bull curtainsider doing a full lap of the roundabout and back the way it came. Figured it was a suit checking out his investment!

That was me! We were filming for Volvo! Surprisingly hard work. ‘Now I just want to film you getting into truck’ says cameraman…‘Oh lord, how do I get in on camera?! Do I play it cool? How do I walk?’ Runs through my head!

Sorry. All I know it’s Virginia never struggled for drivers thanks to a combination of my YouTube channel and that 750. A lot of drivers do care about what they drive and will move for something better. Ironically I was never one! I just drove what I was given and changed companies for the work they did not the trucks they ran

And " Oh no, does my bum look big in this ? "
Regards. John.

Hi Luke will you post some figures on the unit such as vehicle specs, tyre size etc, and what that equals in unit weight?
I have also wondered what mpg is on those things, will you post the figure after a months work and the related work it was on, just as a guess, eg,80% at 20tonnes payload,
Thanks in advance
Matt

No worries will do. On her first couple of days she’s been around 9mpg, Avonmouth to Bideford first day Avonmouth to Plymouth yesterday. If she is anything like my old one she will be surprisingly good on fuel. I even regularly got into the top 5 on the Virginia driver standings. One thing I found is that the consumption is pretty much always the same, from empty curtainsider to max weight fridge it always did about the same mpg
I really don’t get all this negativity about big hp trucks, it’s the same on the Ray White thread. Drivers saying they wouldn’t want one, that it’s just willy waving and a truck is just a tool for the job. If they walked into the office in the morning and the boss offered the keys to either an Axor or a 750 then theyd be willy waving without a doubt

Well said. Its not like as a driver we have any say in its purchase. It seems to be the macho thing to say you wouldn’t have a big flagship of you had the chance. I may go a bit far the other way with my excitement at getting to drive these things but I don’t care, they’re brilliant
