Thats good to know, cheers for that. Thought she had some history in leics by the reg.
Paul Hyman (and his family) have a vintage fairground that tours the Steam Rallies during the summer, all trucks are ERF’s and Foden’s. I seem to recall that Paul also ran an old Foden tipper, either a S21 or S39, with a Gardner Turbo engine fitted out of Breedon and Cloud Hill quarries, but by the time that I was occasionally working from there (2002) it had gone.
Pete.

It could be that one then as it has a Gardner 180 in it, which is quite unusual as the 8 leggers were usually fitted with Gardner 120s
searching back issues march2000 vol5 number7 paul hymans s39 with gardner 10.45litre turbocharged 230 6LXCT.Its travelled1.25million miles not from new,but since 1983 with a second owner. It was new to david cooper,a coal merchant from mountsorrel, leics. The S39,has gone to a new preservation home according to write up in classic and vintage commecials anybody know its whereabouts.
Thank’s for that information Paul, I remember seeing that article but must have thrown away the magazine.

What a great pic of David J E Coopers Foden, awesome classicman…
Back on the subject of breedon and cloud hill there is a foden s20 from 1958 eight wheel tipper SNR148 fleet number 138 on the rally circuit somewhere I have seen pictures of it
roadcommander2:
Excellent pics of the Eric Elliott fleet, thanks for those Matt. Now apologies for this shocking pic, this FH caught me a bit by suprise and I only managed to get a quick (poor) shot off.
It was coming out of Sorrell earlier this week and as it is an unusual FH eigh wheeler I thought it was worth posting.
Not a bad looking bit of kit in GRS blue, but I couldnt help but wonder about the payload !!
the driver of this is a mate of mine scott bradford i find it strange looking wagon to be honest being a fh
Hi all,
Joe/roadcommander2 - Thanks glad you like them.
They bring back some fond memories!
Here are some more
Enjoy
And here we have some of my own fleet!
You know what its like when you are obsessed… Had to get the paint brushes out on my ‘Britains Collection’.
Nice work Matt,
I didn’t remember Elliotts having any MANs, how many did they run?
Thanks also to classicman for the photo of Cooper’s Foden.
Are they still going, remember passing their coal yard in Mt Sorrell village many times.
They had an ERF C series eight wheeler at the time.
Hi Mark,
They did only run 2 MAN’s and most of the time they were on muck shifting site wrok.
I think that may of been down to the high tare weight they used to have.
They also had 2 different bodies on them as you can see in the pics.
Cheers
Matt
What a great thread, brings back memories of being a kid again, unfortunately the anorak in me had me writing down reg’s instead of taking photos. There may be a few if I get my scanner plugged in though.
Derek Wheatleys - Always remember his fodens ‘Top Cat’, ‘Kit Kat’, ‘■■■■■ Power’ and all that with a stunning livery, one of the best I can remember. Still runs a couple i think, but the livery isn’t a patch on the 4000 series
Selbys, remember having to avoid the convoys of their 4000 series on an afternoon delivering papers. Another great livery
Wesmores - Remember a Foden and Constructor of theirs
Kinch’s - F reg Foden, remember a write up in T&D or something about this
M1 BRU - Is that one of M Brewsters wagon. He used to run a bright yellow FL10 out of Fleckney on that place. Would see it at the local garage getting a clean on a Sunday. There’s an identical FH cab KY58 something, saw both within 5 mins of each other last week
LAY 631E - remember seeing that at a classic truckshow at Crick way back preserved in the livery of Breedon & Cloudhill, but can’t have taken a photo of it
Didn’t D J Wheatley have a reg XJV 1 a few years ago…
Think it was on one of the Alpha’s, the reg check sites show it’s now on a Land Rover
It was last on an Alpha, but think it might have been on a few of his lorries. I remember it being on one of his early fodens, maybe early 90s when i 1st saw it…
I’m just going to dust my anorak off for a bit here!!
E905 DNR, XJV1 (Flt 50), G140 UUT (Flt 60 Tom Cat), H338 DJU (Flt 70 Kit Kat), M752 HBC (Flt 80 Dels Lad). I would suggest the 0 on the fleet number was a bit of fun and would make the original XJV1 about F-reg?
Also followed by Alpha’s Y905 NAY (Bit of a Gem) and XJV1 (Bit of Krystal). Not forgetting the little DAF 45 Curtainsides he had Baby Tonka III & Baby Tonka IV amongst others I would think!
