thanks for posting those pics of Gerald Smith’s motors, I remember them well.
Always thought the positioning of the air horns was unusual but that was a bit of a trademark of theirs.
Presume they must have packed up as Ive never seen any later motors about.
GunnerHeskey, see what you can do mate, be intersting to see some of Wesmores.
You get the pics, we will soon tell you how to post em!!
I know this is not at Mountsorrel itself but the contents was being delivered from Mountsorrel.
It would be nice to see alot more of those old lorries that ran out Redland quarry.

As it is tipping into a TILCON paver I would assume that this was on the M40 contract from the M42 split towards Shrewley, circa 1988/89/90, which I was involved with. Around 2000- 3000 tonnes a day shared between Tilcon’s plant’s at Ballidon, Mancetter, Pershore, plus the on site plant at Hockley Heath and Redland’s Mountsorrel quarry.

Pete.
Thank you Pete for the info on this.
I was quite young at the time and was not aware of where I was being taken most of the the time but really enjoyed the ride.
Thanks for posting the pics, certainly bring back some memories.
Just wondering if that FL10 was one of Graham Voss as I dont remember Wheatleys running one.
More of a Foden man I seem to remember, XJV 1, a 4000 series was the flagship I think.
I remember Redland’s Constructor and Foden fleet very well.
Good pics, nice to see the M40 again with two machines side by side. I never went into Mountsorrell, though I did do ex works loads from Croft, Bardon and Cliffe Hill quarries, seems a long while ago now!
In the mid 50s,all mountsorrel trucks were owned,by the mountsorrel granite group, and most were based at the mountsorrel depot at mill hill enderby. The had all sorts of tippers from 4 wheeler atkis, and even some commers, but the 8 wheelers were mostlt atkis and fodens with a few guy invincibles thrown in.Then in the 60s it went to artic combinations and,a lot of subbys were taken on.
Some great pics there lads, as being from the area remember all of those firms. Got some great early and recent pics of Selbys, i’ll get them scanned in and on here
You may be right as I am not saying I know for sure Mark.
I have found some more pics…
Hope you like??
Cheers
Matt
P.S Might have some more but will have to dig them out.
It would be nice if there was others out there with pics too…

The only picture I have of my truck at Kinch’s and this was when I was working for Atkins at Derby, when I left the truck went on to work with a bulker out of mountsorrel
Hi Mark
I sold it to a chap from Ellistown, but I never saw it again, it was a real good truck , nice to work with and very powerful and reliable, I remember Tuckers very well and Graham Voss’s

Hi Kev,
Nice to hear from you again, thanks for posting those pics.
Your FL10 was nice, where did she go to after you?
Here is one of Tucker’s at Truckfest a while back.
Still on the go I understand, running under the name of Bagforce these days with blue DAF eight wheelers.
