Just retired after 51 years driving HGVs. UK and europe. Never had a sat-nav… would not know how to set one up. Tony
My sat nav’s that old it doesn’t have the upgrades for the A1M north of Ripon or the A46. It’s still never managed to send me under a low bridge or weight limit or . . .
desypete:
they should put forward a motion to force drivers to use maps and bollox to sat navs all together, i mean what type of moron needs a sat sav ?the trucks drive themselves these days with very little for the so called driver to do other than a bit of steering, and it seems they just can not even steer in the right direction these days
they are to dependant on sat savs so if there going to have to be that way then by all means force them to have to use a sat nav that will at least keep them well clear of roads they shouldn’t be using.
but in all honesty it does show how thick the drivers are these days, but to be fair for such low wages around its hardly surprising the guys who knew there stuff have gone only a few remain, and its now full of guys who just couldnt do a drop without there sat nav and automatic truck
so yes force the thick buggers to buy and sat nav that will do the job for them, it will protect the places these morons end up driving down.
How ironic you call drivers thick yet your post is littered with spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.
1/10-Must try harder.

Does that mean he gets 2/10?
Nah, 2/20.
Dipper_Dave:
I performed an experiment the other day.
I was just on the outskirts of malvern and had to traverse to the otherside of Ledbury to Hereford Waste paper. Now my commercial sat nav wanted me to go M5 M50 etc, but being old school I choose my own route following the A449 straight down then left before the weight limit in ledbury tootle round to A438 head off towards Hereford past the trumpet pub etc and jobs a good un.
Now I wont say the sat nav was totally wrong but there was some tight bits where i thought I had dropped a real bollock.
Got there safe and sound but the biggest difference is that I can still remember the roads unlike if I had just blindly obeyed the sat nav.So sisters why not try releasing yourselves from the shackles of the sat nav, its quite invigorating.
Oh and if going from malvern to ledbury at 44ton I wouldnt reccomend using the A449

Well said

but in all honesty it does show how thick the drivers are these days,
Indeed your post does a very good job of demonstrating that, desypete. You seem so thick that you’re incapable of punctuating a sentence to the same level of a 5 year old in their first year at school. Do you not know how to use basic punctuation? Did you actually go to school?

wondered when the other twin would show up
Robroy said … They can motion wtf they like, I will carry on using my bog standard car sat nav alongside a bridge height map. Some drivers I know still do not use one at all, so do they plan to legislate for them guys to fork out for an ott, over engineered, over priced truck sat nav?
There is only one way to stop this, go back to the days when being a complete helpless [zb] ■■■■ whit actually disqualified you from holding a Class1, problem solved…you’re welcome

this ^^^^
but anything over 7.5ton I think.
So that’s Conor an Desypete on the dole, oh yes and Dozy
I’m not entirely sure desypete should be driving a wheel barrow…
But I would rather go back to the antiquated days of map books, than be forced to use an HGV sat nav. Unless they can work out the difference between a timed weight limit and not!

Glad I didn’t disappoint you Pete
good old pete, he can always be relied upon for anything sat nav, dcpc, how do I do this - to pop in with the same dross and tar everyone with the same brush.
at least he was nice about it this time
I’ve met drivers, who can’t even get out of a yard without a sat nav.
And plenty of drivers hobbling over in my direction waving delivery notes like a white flag of submission shouting “hold up mate you’ve been to so and so haven’t you? how do you get there?”
by following my Satnav you technophobic doddery old [zb]er.

in this day and age i am not surprised people dont have to pass a test to use a wheel barrow, give it time i am sure some pen pusher in Europe will spot this legal loop hole,
before long, it will be an offence to use a wheel barrow without training and a test, a hard hat, hi viz, safety boots and goggles
yet its seen as ok to let muppets out on the streets driving hgv who can not even read a map.

What about the ones that can’t spell, use punctuation, or construct proper sentences?
I reckon Desypete has done his DCPC, and is the guy on your course that
A. Tries to be instructor.
B. Is the guy who sits at the back pretending to sleep.
C. Is the bloke who bores everyone to death with his “experiences”.
