Most ridiculous thing you have heard?

So if you pass in a W+D, thats all you’re allowed to drive yet if you pass in an artic you can drive both? Wheres the logic in that?

If you have a C+E you can drive both, doesn’t matter how you got it.

Category C

You can drive vehicles over 3,500kg (with a trailer up to 750kg).

Category C+E

You can drive category C vehicles with a trailer over 750kg.

How many missed the Herald free enterprise by two minutes ?

If they’d got all the drivers on who claimed to have missed it the ferry would have sunk anyway under the weight.

Likewise the amount of ex SAS guys driving who were at the Iranian Embassy siege.
The actual assault lasted 17 minutes.
It took three hours to get everyone who claims to have been there in the window.

Radar…

Currently if you do class one test with W&D and that entitles you to drive both W&D and Artic with trailer…and vice versa… Just like you can drive Auto on class 2 & 1 and you are allowed to drive a manual…
My personal opinion about is, If you pass you class 2 test on auto then that’s all your qualified to drive… you pass test on manual and you qualify to drive both …
Same as with the class one plus if you pass your test on a wagon and drag…that’s all your allowed to drive… but pass class one on artic then you qualify to drive both… I disagree with the current system…its made it to easy to get a Hgv licence

Coolrider seemed to be ■■■■■■■■ about Evils advice in one breath …calling him a tool in the next breath, then coming out with I can’t knock him for offering advise in the next…some what contradicting himself

Putting loads of cd’s in the window will reflect radar so the cops can’t get you for speeding using a radar gun.
Surprised the RAF is spending so much o stealth and not just nailing some NOW 25 cd’s on planes.

Or more likely floated away with all the hot air.

That said, if I’d have been on the herald VOSA would have drawn round it in chalk and it wouldn’t have moved for 11 hours.

Can you feel the ■■■■■■ tension? :open_mouth:

A driver that left our Edinburgh depot claiming he worked on the Power side of the business. All the power equipment comes from Glasgow. It’s not exactly bragging material so god knows why?

So Class 2 are the Bees ?

Chatting to a bloke in Whitwood truck stop, he was having a 45 off and then setting off for China across land. It would take him 6 weeks. Might be true but somehow I doubted it.

He should save a few days nipping down the road of bones, then taking the China ferry at Magadan. Or flat to the mat down the trans-Siberian highway.

Chatting to a Bartrums driver last year, said he used to run a V10 Maggi Deutz, he used to take 2 40ft trailers one behind the other, (no special permits), to Johannesburg, with 5 drops on the way down, when he got there he would have 2 weeks off. He once met his next door neighbour in a bar who couldn’t believe he had just driven from Beccles (Suffolk) with 2x 40ft trailers full of radiators to South Africa!!
Funny that, I couldn’t believe it either!

Ralph Davies and Peter Gilder used to run to Kazakhstan, and some went further towads the Chinese border, the trucks fell apart on pot holes and dirt roads .
I heard they hired an armed guard who sat in the passenger seat through bandit country .
A few drivers caught nasty diseases from stale shower water, Legionaires among one .
On the wall at Eigors Shell garage near Le Mans, there were dramatic photos of their trucks off the road in the snow and ice .

The best story I ever heard was in 1996 when I worked at lynx express parcels in norwich.
This apparently happened before I started.
an agency driver was called for to cover a night trunk to tamworth.
said driver turned up and took said night trunk and it’s load and paperwork and set off for the 1st address on the bundle of paperwork he had.
He was missing 3 days before the police found him in Exeter looking for a parcel in the trailer so he could deliver it.

Must have been a lynx thing. A guy that worked at their Bothwell depot got sent out with a 7.5t loaded with about 20 drops in Dunoon one day. But what someone forgot to tell the driver was, that he only had to deliver the parcels to the ferry terminal in gourock. The parcels would get sent over on the boat on their own and a subbie would collect them at the other end then deliver them. It was getting late and the office noticed that the driver still wasn’t back. Managed to get hold of him on the phone and he told them he only had a couple more drops left to do then he’d start heading back. Due to the lack of information given to the driver, he just assumed that he was to take the truck over on the boat and deliver everything on it that day. [emoji3] [emoji3] [emoji3]

I’m young in the game, and I’ve obviously got a lot of bollox to yet hear, but I wondered if people would like to give their experiences of the ultimate load or rollox they’ve been told by another driver… The spark of this thread came a little while back when another driver said, he really liked the 26t rigid with a tag he was driving, as with them, if you drop the tag during overtaking, you can get a couple more K’s out of em!

I just agreed with him! :open_mouth:

It’s certainly plausible. Putting the tag axle down would reduce the weight on the drive axle. As a result, the tyre on the drive axle would deform less as it rotates, and therefore have a larger effective rolling diameter, resulting in a larger effective rolling circumference. So, for each revolution of the wheel, you cover slightly more distance. The tacho (and limiter) would still think you were travelling at the same speed as the axle is still rotating at the same rate (so it wouldn’t show up on the speedo), but your actual road speed is slightly higher.

Now, whether this effect is large enough to make an appreciable difference, I don’t know…

Nah I’m fine pop’s, it’s sort of nice to have a fan club!
Although I do wonder why someone waits in the wings saying nothing themselves, only to pop up on the odd occasion and act so venomously, it’s kind of sad!

P.S. Yes coolrider, I made an error in what I said on that thread. Guess I was tired and trying to help on the Newbie forum when I should have been resting. But instead of just pointing out my error in the thread, the real question is why you chose to highlight it here?
