An empty beer can’s hardly the thing you would ‘give’ to someone else as a thank you, or something you would keep if you found it!

If this is a day job with no nights out, then it would look to me as though it had been drunk during a shift. I’d say that was a problem!

How did you come to that conclusion? It was 1 (ONE) empty can. Maybe it was opened and emptied by a driver while at work, we don’t know.

Bearing in mind the OP was contacted twice in quick succession by the TM with allegations of the vehicle being not ready for the road I’d suggest that the firm may well have some evil sods working there who may have planted the empty can to incriminate a driver not in the “elite” clique. Just another possibility!! :bulb: :bulb:

Well…since you ask. My experience of empty drinks cans/bottles in a cab stem from this-

1- I’v opened & consumed the contents, & I’ll dispose of the empty in the first bin I come across.

2- Someone using the unit prior to me has opened & consumed the contents & has been too lazy or forgetful to bin the empty.

This conspiracy theory about co-workers planting the can (And I’m well aware it was just 1/one can) is just a bit too ‘cloak & dagger’ to be realistic. An empty beer can on its own won’t be enough for the Police to do anything to the driver, therefor it would be a pointless exercise!

Like I stated further back this thread though…we’ll never know.

Why do you all jump to the conclusion the guy has a drink problem.
It sounds like an old woman’s gossip forum. :unamused:

Maybe he was given it for helping somebody out, maybe he planned to give it to somebody to say thanks, maybe he found the [zb] thing…who [zb] knows…who cares.
Next time you see him ■■■■■■ getting into his cab then think about doing something.
Until then keep your [zb] beaks out.

Btw…I will pm you all my firms no, so all the self righteous can grass me up.
…I’ve got 3 cans of Stella in my fridge. OBVIOUSLY got a drink problem…Jeez H :unamused:

I’ve got three cans in my fridge too. I must have a drink prob. I will be posting my company details so i can get grassed up as well

I’d say anyone who can’t knock drinking alcohol on the head for the shifts they are in a cab for - DOES have a “drink problem”.

I like a beer like anyone else, and I’m rather partial to a tot of rum or six and all.
I save it for my days off though. It ain’t rocket science!

I really hope I have picked up your answer to my post wrong there mate.
I have cans in my cab fridge to have with my meal when parked up for the night.
I also …shock. wait for it …Quite often go to the pub when parked up, have a meal with one ( or two) pints. :open_mouth:

If you are coming at this from a day man’s perspective and not a tramper, just ignore me.
If not do NOT tell me I have a drink problem.!! :smiling_imp:

Bit to “cloak and dagger” - but has actually happened in a former workplace of mine, not with alcohol but drug paraphernalia. The guy was apparently banged to rights until he released his medical records to the company doctor including a blood test result within the previous 72 hours.

You can only imagine the crap that went down after that.

I like to try to make sure I don’t run out …

Agreed. But I think he should also be targeting idiots who fill up their windscreens with dangerous and illegal tat, like the moron who owned this…

Personally I’d hand the can in at the transport office. Call me a grass if you like but I would rather you call me silly names than risk a drunk driver on the road. If the can is there for a legitimate reason then whoever left it there wont have a problem explaining it.

truckman020:
stella isn’t that strong anyway, what is it 4/5%

Doesn’t look good when you’ve had it for breakfast and then get involved in a fatal though…

It’s no more of a problem than the socially-passed thing of “feeling obliged to look at the Iphone when it makes a noise whilst you’re driving”, or perhaps I might be so bold as to add “feeling the need to take one in the cab with you at all”.
Don’t worry - I’m not having a personal go at you here - I’m merely arguing against the wider wisdom of it being “socially acceptable” for anyone to take alcohol and a non-hands-free phone into the cab with them.
I’m a zero tolerance fan you see… I realize that 99% of people (at least on the phone side) are not though. What do you reckon? 1 in 20 people take alcohol into their cabs to drink whilst on their daily rest?
The law would argue that it’s the same as drinking at home between shifts. I just don’t like leaving anything to chance though, as I’ve had bad experiences in the past when I thought I had 15 hours off to the next shift, had a skin full at home at a party that night, but then got called in early the next day. (I dropped the shift, because I couldn’t burn it off in time!) I detest early starts - and avoid them like the plague these days. Back when I was starting out on agencies though - I had to play along or not get any work. Now I’m on lates/nights full time, and get saturday as a guaranteed weekly rest day - I can sit here like right now, and drink to my heart’s content… I ain’t going nowhere until Sunday now. :sunglasses:

I’m with Wiretwister on this one: planted by the same drivers who were trying to drop you in it over the allegations that parts of the vehicle had been left insecure. You have no proof that the locker etc were not hanging open, but they will be believed, the empty can would reinforce their story.

raymundo:
Dangerous ■■?

Yes. That’s why it is illegal. And since this was Angus McCoatup’s very own vehicle, I feel that attention needs to be drawn to the hypocrisy of the man.

scrotumscratcher:
i wouldn’t personally,i would dispose of any sign of alcohol incase i was stopped for checks,go about my day/days in a proffesional manner and leave regular driver to dig his own grave ,nobody likes a grass, just my opinion

+1.keep your nose out of other peoples business…

Or until the ■■■■■■ up driver kills a member of your family?

Honestly !

Looooo:
No, but the funny thing was, during this day I got 5m out the yard and manager called to say he been told I was driving along with my side box open. I pulled over expecting straps all gone but found it was shut… and I had double checked it was properly closed before leaving.

Later that day I saw another from the same yard. Gave him a wave. 5m later I got a call from the manager saying he’d had a call from another driver saying he’d seen me driving with my crane improperly stowed. It was not! Wandering WTF is this? Everyone calling the manager grassing people up left right and center. Wierd.

Made me think I’ll mention the can ain’t mine either!

Will you be believed? Unless the management make it clear that they know dirty tricks are occurring and the management are going to take your word about matters over any number of other drivers, then I’d clear out quick.

I love the fact that you both simply choose to ignore the fact that you’re both trampers and have beer in your fridges for when you’re parked up and off duty, yet the OP has clearly stated on more than one occasion that it is a builders merchants day wagon and the only time one’s arse would be on the seat is during the course of a working shift.

I’m not getting into the whole “would I / wouldn’t I” thing, that’s for me and me alone to decide and to make judgement on, [zb] what you lot think I make my own choices and I don’t seek anyones approval on those choices, all I am saying is stop twisting and manipulating arguments to bolster and elevate your opinions, you just end up making yourselves look retarded!

Right now thats said I’m off down the pub [zb] you all!

I really do hope that the owner gets to meet you personally.

That is one of the best tr-active units ever built.

I really do hope that the owner gets to meet you personally.

Unless he gets transferred to the Narrowboat Enforcement Division, I’m thinking that’s fairly unlikely.

Why Harry, have you been doing putt putt putt per hour in a putt putt zone? :open_mouth:

If I worked with a driver who had a drink problem, I wouldn’t hesitate in reporting him. No moral qualms about it whatsoever, but in no way can you prove a driver has drink problem because of one empty can. It might no be a good thing to do, might be against company policy, but not enough evidence of a drink problem. A cab full of empty cans and more hidden would ting alarm bells.
