M74 Car Park

scanny77:
im driving for nampak over the other side past MAN. it was bad enough on sunday night so i really am dreading tonight, especially the A80 which the news is reporting as one of the worst places but there is no real alternative from falkirk. cheers for the info

My shift was 17 hours long yesterday thanks to the a80, spent 10 hours sat on it then managed to get off at next junction abd parked outside m and s depot at lenziemills, took my 9 off and rejoined this morning but was still sat for another 3 hours waiting to move, thank god i`m not heading back south till tomorrow. all together including my break it took me 30 hours from boroughbridge to dundee :open_mouth:

I must have been one of the lucky ones.Left the fruit market about 07.30 just as it started to snow.Managed to get as far as Old Inns before everything ground to a halt. Sat there till about 17.00 when we moved about 2 miles and stopped again for another hour. This was because trucks couldn’t get up the hill at the Haggs junction.A tractor was pulling them up.
When we started moving again, everything in front of me turned off at Haggs.Got a nice clear run along the M80. A9 from Dunblane to Perth was deserted but lay-bys hadn’t been cleared properly so didn’t fancy parking up in one.Ended up stopping at Pitlochry. 16.5 hr shift.Just over 4hrs driving for the day. Got to our yard at 07.30 this morning.

For me, the worst part was the lack of information.Didn’t see any polis all day.Had to smile at the VMS just before Stirling exit. SEVERE WEATHER.NETWORK CONGESTED.SIGNIFICANT DELAYS. Really? I hadn’t noticed :unamused:

typical British planning, When they made the law regarding drivers hours , no one thought about ice and snow, I remember when UYL laws applied, And the police backed you instead of booking you.
UYL= Use Your Loaf.

I should have set off on monday to Aberdeen with a brand new snowplough, The irony is I couldnt have got through, and I couldnt have used the plough because its brand new and must reach the customer in new condition.
They have put the delivery on hold until the snow clears, daft or what??

Reading the bit about the Samworths driver and the Ginsters peppered slices, it was on the BBC news, and what did they get, zb crisps

At least for the Scots who voted for Alex Salmond, he came out with the same crap as our very own Philip Hammond.

You have yourselves to blame, you blocked the roads yourself

Have a listen to Ken

I came past all you poor guys parked on the HS at 3:45am heading for Morrisons to tip, I do have to apologize if I woke anyone but I did crawl past as even at that time the road was still an ice rink… I must congratulate all of you or at least the ones who made the most of being parked up on the downhill run towards Hamilton for brightening up the road by building those snowmen on the middle of the motorway, brightened up my morning…Oh and just to make you aware for those who did it… VOSA will class this as OTHER WORK!!!

Heard on the radio this morning that our first minister is going to be announcing a new policy to prevent lorrys jacknifing. Should be interesting considering his vast experience as a driver

They will probably ban us from pulling trailers!!!

To stop lorries jackniffing it might be handy to give car drivers some lessons.

As I made my escape from Scotland this morning after being there 48hrs, doing 45mph down the A1 near Alnwick (down hill preparing for up hill) a car pulls out from side road 50 yards in front of me, from a standing start!

I suppose this would have been my fault had I lost it for driving too fast! :unamused:

DaiDap:
Is there a Scottish Red Cross?

I think that answers your question.

There’s a British Red Cross, but we’re stuck in the snow!! :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

fun times for everyone 2moro

Looks like you’re going to need a pair of thermals under your kilt for the next few days G :open_mouth:

nah ill just stay in bed

the m8 is still a car park, aint open between edinburgh/harthill j1-j5

3 hours to get from dunfermline to bathgate only to be told to go home lol

now im off to asda to do some shopping lol

Gogzy - get some beers from asda and bring em down the M8 for us will ya?

Dying for a beer

only just saw this due to tnet being down, lol i coulda done it aswell lol

the m8 is now open but its a frigging nightmare, huge ice patches, a71 is a joke and most of the problems is cause by car drivers, nearly jackknifed a few times today due to the state of the road, huge ruts etc.
i had a truck get stuck behind me because a car had stopped on a main road because a car in the side street was struggling to get out.

Its a ■■■■■■■ riot took me a hour to get out the righead, had about 5 goes at that little tiny hill at scot truck  Got stuck for 45 minutes on a major roundabout in motherwell and made the traffic scotland bulletin

Ended up taking 45 minutes on the hard shoulder of the m74, ■■■■■■■ nowhere to park any where!

A third party jackknifed in our yard and wiped out a crash barrier. Snow you’ve got a chance but this compact ice is brutal!

Our driver left for Bellshill (from Leicestershire) at 4am Monday morning, got back at 4pm this afternoon! Usually back by 7am on the tuesday!

i abandoned the shift. i got onto the main street in falkirk to find an artic stuck on a hill. im behind a car with another car in front of him who decided to stop and let someone pass the artic on our side of the road. i was a good bit back but it didnt make any difference. as soon as i touched my brakes they locked up so i went back home. no way am i driving my car like that. no shift is going to cover the costs of losing my car

The lighter side…a nobend of a radio DJ on Real Radio starts mouthing off yesterday (Tuesday) about lorry drivers causing all the road chaos in Central Scotland this week. He reckoned that artic drivers in particular were to blame and should be parked up in such snowy conditions to keep the roads clear for ordinary motorists! Thankfully sanity returned v quickly when a caller who was a driver says to him ‘if there were no trucks on the road today your family would be eating grass mate…yes, the grass that’s under 6 inches of snow in yer front garden currently…so think on and get real!’ Made me laugh, a lot.

The Central Belt headimng out towards the East of Scotland got the worst of it, no doubt at all…East Kilbride, Belshill, Larkhall, Livingston, Armadale…basically travelling from Glasgow to Edinburgh wasn’t gonna happen as it turned out, neither was Glasgow-East Kilbride…a very short distance but what a bloody mess. Spent the night out myself although luckily made it to tip onto a loading bay at Larkhall before pulling the curtains at midnight, after a 9 hour journey from Argyll that usually takes under 2 hrs. Had it easy compared to some.

the west currently has it the worst right now, the roads are rutted to hell, nearly jack knifed a few times while barely going 5mph
once you get out of edinburgh and head over to fife the roads are fine, gogar roundabout is an absolute joke though. big lumpy sheet ice all the way round. i was solo on it today, just lucky there wasnt a car next to me. way past 45 degrees before i got some grip

.

True if you ARE carrying essential supplies, but I bet most of those trucks were empty or loaded with stuff that could have easily waited.

Ah well gl me tomorrow then, off to load first thing for Motherwell

roads aint bad now scottie in the sense of traffic, but the m8s just a big skating rink. youll be fine in your truck its just a bit hairy in an artic
