M62 westbound j32 accident [Merged]

Another tragedy today, God give the families strength and courage :frowning:

epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/48547

Straight stretch of motorway, perfect visibility in the middle of a working day.
You wonder how this could happen other than a lapse of concentration on someone’s part.
The rear seat passengers took the full impact of all that energy.
Horrific.

DUFFMAN:
Sky news reporting that a lorry driver has been arrested,no surprise there then !

Standard procedure now amongst poloice forces to do.

we cant start laying blame until the police have done their investigations !

is it me or does the minibus trailer look relatively undamaged? they have opened the sides to use as a screen yes?

truckyboy:
So a bunch of women, on their way to enjoy a night out, or weekend away, when a truck ploughs into them, killing 1, and injuring a lot more, god bless them and their families. It was said in an earlier post, that it looked like the truck was at maximum speed, whilst the minibus was going at slow speed, we can all make assumptions, but the lorry driver was arrested at the scene ( care of AOL news ) but looking at the cab, it looks like its been pushed back towards the rear, and off of its mountings, and the rear of the minibus is also very badly pushed inwards, only the police will eventually know what exactly happened, in my mind, it looks to me like the ( local ) driver, had a lapse of concentration, and ploughed at speed into the back of the trailer, being towed by the minibus, but thats only an opinion.

The trailer you mention here is a screen to hide whats happened while investigations are carried out and ease congestion by on lookers

Daily Mail claims van hit lorry while travelling in same direction up slip road.should think wind effect might have had something to do with it.Mini bus not a heavy vehicle could be well
blown around passing a rig or being passed.Did think Police had arrested mini bus driver.

The poorly written Daily Fail piece says:

The minibus they were travelling in turned onto its side after leaving the main carriageway and going up a sliproad when it collided with a Farmfoods lorry driving in the same direction.

My interpretation of that is: “after a collision with a Farmfoods lorry travelling in the same direction, the minibus left the main carriageway and went onto a sliproad”.

It seems pretty clear to me from the photo below that the truck driver was at fault and ran into the rear of the minibus, but that’s just my interpretation. The facts will out.

No mention of a van there. It was a collision with a lorry and a minibus.
Is it just me or is it not fairly obvious who has ploughed into who?
and I doubt the wind had much to do with it. Jeez

Please take this as constructive criticism i find it distasteful if you where there or nearby to take pictures of the scene.

If, as we all seem to assume, the bus was stationary, or nearly so, when the truck hit it, it may depend on why it was stopped in a live lane.

This reminds me of a similar collision in December 98 - news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/229943.stm - I believe that the minibus driver was prosecuted afterwards, although it was in thick fog.

If it was stopped in a live line then it’s highly likely that it was because of traffic backing up - it’s a very busy stretch of motorway, especially on a Friday.

They’ve come from South Emsall and were going to Liverpool. Whats the betting that the minibus driver was in L1 which is actually the sliproad for Ponty, realise they were in the wrong lane, slowed down to a crawl then pulled into L2 thinking that maybe the truck was further away than it actually was?

Carryfast:
No damage on the trailer which seems to have been connected to the minibus but the rear of the minibus seems to be what took the impact with the truck…

If you read the rest of the thread you’d realise it’s not a trailer, it’s a portable screen used to prevent rubbernecking.

Why are people inventing convoluted scenarios in order to defend the trucker at all costs? He was probably driving too close/on his phone/too tired/whatever but it’s pretty clear he’s to blame.

Carryfast:
No damage on the trailer which seems to have been connected to the minibus but the rear of the minibus seems to be what took the impact with the truck. :bulb: Which raises the possibility that the trailer became uncoupled from the mini bus and went into lane 2 in front of the overtaking truck who then went to the left to avoid it and then hit the van, that had just lost it’s trailer,in the rear. :bulb: Which in my book wouln’t make it the truck driver’s fault except for making the wrong choice in not just holding his course in lane 2 and hit the uncoupled trailer instead of taking avoiiding action to try to miss it.

What trailer? There was no trailer on the minibus.Where do you get your ideas from.
If the minibus was stationary as someone else hinted nobody should plough into it with that impact.
Unless the lorry driver took ill which is unlikely because he was arrested and not taken to hospital it looks very much like the lorry drivers fault.
Stop making excuses and see the reality because it will keep happening the way some drive these days

glad someone else has a normal brain.

Its gods fault. Nobody on here can say what happened for sure no matter what stories the photos might tell. RIP to the person that died. Usually in these incidents it’s the truck driver who survives and is therefore arrested and when that gets reported in the media people assume if he/she was arrested that there guilty thus giving us an even worse reputation.

If you’re right then the driver deserves to be charged. But that looks like a trailer in front of the truck to anyone who isn’t Stevie Wonder although having said that whatever it is seems to be part of the screening put there after the accident going by the other pics not the overhead news pics. However whatever the answers it should always be a case of innocent until proven guilty not trial by internet forum.

That impact isn’t a trucker driving too close. Thats a impact between something practically stationary and something moving at full speed.

Wonder if the mini bus slowed down and was going to peel off down the slip road?

If this had have been a stationary traffic situation other vehicles would have been involved. Something caused the mini bus to grind to a halt and the driver of the Farmfoods not to notice it
