Minibus driver in M62 hen-party death crash was already being probed
“All this happened several months before the fatal collision in which, for sake of absolute clarity, Mr Johnson was not driving a vehicle of his own nor operated under his own operator’s licence.”
Knew it all along. Micky Mouse driving, Mickey Mouse operator, Mickey Mouse vehicles.

I look forward to albion1961 coming back here and publicly apologising for blaming the lorry driver for the crash.
GasGas:
M62 hen party crash: Minibus driver loses operator's licence - BBC NewsMinibus was run by a cowboy and should not even have been on the road at the time.
Still, I expect he was cheap.
When I reported on the bus and coach industry I used to occasionally field calls from the public expressing disquiet about the state of (usually private hire) coaches or minibuses that they or their children had travelled on.
I used to ask them what the criteria had been for choosing that particular operator: had they been recommended them by another customer, had a good experience in the past or been impressed by the presentation of their vehicles on the road, for instance?
“They were cheapest,” was the inevitable reply.
“Well, that’s it then,” I used to say.
Already a thread on it

According to the BBC article
"Mr Johnson and the lorry driver, who is from St Helen’s, were both arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
They remain on bail while police inquiries continue."
Wouldn’t say either driver was in the clear yet so you will probably be waiting on that one.

They’re both the same topic so keep it all in one place.

Why should he until as such times as the lorry driver is actually cleared of any responsibility…
Thank you anisboy.Nice to see someone with a brain in their head.
What is wrong with you guys? I mean you cannot even get my forum name correct so I suppose it is too much to ask that you can understand plain English.
I never blamed the lorry driver for that accident. What I said was that too many accidents like that one were caused by lorries tailgating.
Now the fact that BOTH drivers are still on police bail does NOT mean it was not the lorry drivers fault. Please try to engage your brains before spouting garbage.
If you overlook the speed differential to cause that much damage…
The driver of the lorry, Kevin Ollerhead, 43, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He was later released without charge on police bail.
Maybe he is just required as a credible witness.
There are lots of problems with the Police Bail system, one of the worst “offenders” is West Yorkshire Police who have almost 4000 people on bail with 900 or so on bail for over 6 months. This has been all over the newspapers as the Law Society are trying to put a limit of 28 days on it without a court order.
Reasons for bail are many, maybe the person will leave the country, maybe they will destroy vital evidence, but in many cases it is to prevent any interaction or interference with witnesses.
I remember the accident quite well as I have a couple of friends from South Elmsall and the lorry driver was quite disturbed by the events that led up to Bethany’s death

"The Minicoach Driver’s own transport operation was being probed by VOSA
at the time of the “M62 Hen Party Incident” after a vehicle he was operating
lost a nearside/rear wheelset in October 2012. VOSA also found that he had
no valid insurance for the vehicles that he operated.
After the Minicoach Driver was informed that a probe into his company was
going to take place, he suffered a burglary at his home and much of the
relevant documentation, including Driver Defect Reports and Driver Tachos,
were unfortunately stolen.
At the time of the “M62 Hen Party Incident” the Minicoach Driver
WAS NOT driving a vehicle of his own nor operated under his own
operator’s licence. He was acting as a Driver for another coach operator.”

. . . Blimey, and I always thought they were reasons for remand.

Where a constable grants bail to a person no conditions shall be imposed under subsections (4), (5), (6) or (7) of section 3 of this Act unless it appears to the constable that it is necessary to do so for the purpose of preventing that person from–
(a)failing to surrender to custody, or
(b)committing an offence while on bail, or
(c)interfering with witnesses or otherwise obstructing the course of justice, whether in relation to himself or any other person.

To put it in plain English both drivers are still under suspicion or that is all the police are saying at the moment.
What happens in a lot of cases like this one is that the blame is put at 50/50 as quite often both parties were partly to blame.
Maybe not in this one but quite often that is the way it goes.
