That seems obvious going by the road layout and signs.
No it isn’t so obvious.
I’m asking if someone going from the A1 North to the M62 West would
have to physically change lanes to be on the J32 exit slip or would they automatically
be on the J32 exit slip if they kept in the same lane throughout the manoevre.
If the latter is true then it hasn’t always been like that.
It must have always been like that because the motorway bridge only has 3 lanes while the approach to it has 4 in which case the inner most one of the 4 lanes is a sperate lane that has to leave the motorway as part of the exit slip road. Some of the problem being that the Brits don’t differentiate continuing motorway lanes from the seperate inside lane that is only there to exit the motorway on the motorway signs by using different colour codes to identify exit lanes from motorway coninuation lanes easily and quickly at a distance.
Then they add to the problem by putting a final one close to the exit slip road with foreseeable results considering the lowest common denominator of driver.
I stand to be corrected but I don’t think it’s always been like that. Didn’t it change when they made the A1 the A1M before that you had to use the roundabout at Ferrybridge to join the M62. This fourth lane comes off the new link road from the A1M. You use the same link coming from the north as you do coming from the south to go west on the M62.

no it hasn’t the lay out got changed when they did the junction improvments for coming on and off the A1 and M62 at Ferrybridge.

Hiya yes your right… that part of the motorway is 4 lanes for maybe a mile if i remember right. maybe a little more.

Coming off the A1 to go Westbound on the M62 you more or less come off the Entry slip road right onto the exit slip road for coming off for Pontefract and and Castleford and anyone who wants to carry on the M62 Westbound doesn’t really have a lot of time to get across onto the M62.
It will all change again with the highways agency about to commence roadworks between j32 and j30 extra lane and new barriers 50mph average cameras etc last approximately 18months.
I was on the M25 today(in my car), northern section, roadworks with 50 mph limit.
The amount of hgv’s I saw up the arses of other vehciles was shocking!
The other vehciles were doing 50 mph and the road was quite congested.
Everyday occurrence rambo unfortunately. It is only luck that there are not more attrocious accidents on our roads. Will these clowns ever learn?
I somehow doubt it.

Hiya i think the next phase is 8 years along that stretch. a pal of mine is the engineer on this last phase. he’s 63
next week. he said he wants to finsh with this phase. if he goes into the next phase he’ll be 70 if he
see’s the job completed…he’s been doing all the extra slip roads and overhead ganteries with the average
speed limits.

There’s been roadworks from J32 to Brighouse for about 18 months, the section from J32 to M1 at Lofthouse interchange are almost finished .

I’ve always wanted an INCREASE in speed within motorway roadworks.
It should be 56 mph.
Are you trying to say if it was increased to 56 they would all suddenly keep a safe distance? In your dreams only!
These morons have no concept of the danger they put themselves and others in.

I will stand corrected but the roadworks are at the moment from 30 to 25 subsequently they are this summer going to do 32 to 30

Cat like reactions? You are the one being stroppy…Why can’t you avoid everything? I have never had an accident while driving professionally(36years) Some near misses but never hit any other vehicle and I know plenty other drivers that have the same record.I also know plenty that have have bumps all the time.
The chances are if I rear ended someone it would be my fault and yes I would take the blame.
Who said anything about leaving too big a gap? The gap I always leave is a safe traveling distance from the vehicle in front. If someone jumps in that gap then I ease off.
I have lost count of how many times I have heard that excuse for not keeping a safe distance.Just as a matter of interest how big a gap would you leave in dry conditions traveling at 50mph? What percentage of truck drivers do you reckon keep a safe distance?
You are correct about one thing though…you learn from experience and anyone that thinks they know it all or it will never happen to them is usually a bad driver.
stroppy… You give someone a compliment!!
Common sense is what tells me that I can’t avoid everything, but if that’s not enough physics will put it beyond doubt.
The fact that you’ve never hit owt does nothing to prove you can avoid everything.
The gap I’d leave is what looks right, I could give you a figure, but I couldn’t very accurately judge that distance, So it’s pretty meaningless. We have a plyon by work, some people say it’s 50m tall others reckon 100m and some somewhere inbetween.
Aren’t you the one who reckons you can avoid everything?
I am not saying I can avoid everything but I drive in a manner that gives me the best chance not to hit something if something out of the ordinary happens.
You say the gap you leave is what looks right? That is just your perception which may or may not be right.Surely a professional driver would know how to judge a safe gap rahter than just go by what he sees or thinks.
All I can say is a lot of experienced drivers think they are leaving a safe gap but in reality they are not and I am speaking from personal experience.
Seen it first hand many times.

What I meant was that it’s obviously ‘always’ been like that ever since it’s been a 4 lane stretch of road leading up to a 3 lane wide bridge.Which just leaves the issue of using the safest way possible to denote the difference between the continuing 3 lanes of the motorway from the seperate lane on the inside that’s only supposed to be used for traffic that intends to use the exit slip road.
