@lesleyanne, OK well I’m back now and as soon as I have taken my son to school I will be responding to your scurrilous untrue remarks
Whatever you say even my son thinks that the very poor basic rate of pay offered by you, remember that is £6.20per hr for class 1 work, is scandalous and even he would expect lorry driver’s to be paid more for the job they do.

dave.
you should have gone to school with your son, you’ll learn about adding up, taking away, and tax avoidance.
it’s the way the system works, the tax system is designed to be abused more than a goat at a welsh stag night.
you either get behind it and [zb] it, or get in front and be [zb]ed.
…if you are speaking to anyone who expresses an interest in becoming a driver, make sure you tell them that they will have to crawl to employers in order to get an anti-social dangerous job that pays the national minimum wage.
Well, you obviously haven’t read all of the posts then have you Miss High and Mighty?
All Dave Penn has done is asked a basic question that you STILL haven’t answered. You failed to notice that he hasn’t stooped to name calling. He has in fact responded to an insult from an intolerable poster.
You seem to have found a supporter of epic proportion on here, and yet the basic fact is…You still fail to answer the original question. I think it’ll take you 111 years (A figure you constantly seem to boast about!) to realise, that the wage is paltry and insulting.
Where are the posts from your minions, defending this mighty company? Where the grass is greener and the conditions sooo wonderful, that in their spare time they cannot bare to be parted from you?
So answer the question, forget you and your new “friend” clubbing together and finally admit.
£6.20 is an absolute disgrace.

Bigvern1. is a Wizend old trout not a derogatory comment or even defamation. My Drivers are out working doing the job they love for remuneration at the end of the week. Allegations of being the girlfriend of a very nice person on here who is not afraid to voice his opinion was childish to say the least. You call me Miss High and Mighty is that because I have come onto this Male orientated site and had the audacity to voice my opinions.■■?
No… Is the answer to the question you asked me “Wizened old trout” wasn’t aimed at you. Answer the question asked of your company. I don’t think you get it at all. Your gender has sweet F.A. to do with it either. If one of your colleagues had answered or any other male. They too would have been grilled.
And being a “girly friend” isn’t the same as a girlfriend either.
So…Do you want to answer the question that was respectfully asked all those pages ago?
Whoa whoa whooa lady!
This isnt all males who have posted on here. I am female and have been driving for 5 years (i know its not a lot really) and have been on this forum about 6 months .
The guys and girls on here will jump on people who try to go around the houses rather than answer directly. Sometimes the smilies do not totally convey the sarcasm or fnar fnar’s that some people write.
I wouldnt take it to heart, or loose sleep over it.
But… If you and your drivers (both equally happy with your workplace) swapped roles for say a month would you feel that you were underpaid for the workload that is upon them?
Dont fly off the handle lesley ann please,
This in by no way a dig but it is trying to put what previous posters have said in a nicer way
Personally ,as i said earlier, i dont earn much more than your employees per week however mine is straight flat rate wages with no bonuses. I appreciate that I probably pay more tax but if god forbid i was in an accident and i had a significant amount of time off work i would only be able to claim my basic rate as loss of earnings. Just a thing to consider
Well her biggest fan on here suggested in an earlier post, that only the “Mentally impaired will be considered for this job.” I’m confused by it…I really am!

Copied and pasted from Mr Penns post QUOTE “But there is one thing for sure I’m not going to take abuse from a wizened old trout or from the likes of you plus I don’t know where you and yer girlie friend” Who was it aimed at then.

Everybody loves a good debate
Having spoken with another colleague who was herself a Trucker up until 2 years ago she has said that personally working for Coombe Valley Transport was easier compared to the Office job she now has taken. Our Drivers are not pressurised with impossible delivery times, they work on the basis that if it is possible then all well and good but we do not penalise them for being late. She states that if circumstances allowed she would be back out there on the road earning the same £6.20 as our Drivers without the aggravation. She says that she was financially better off on the road and without the pressure of working in planning the transport on a daily basis. No personally I would not swap roles with the drivers I have been Office based most of my working life. The responsibilites that I have here looking out for the Drivers are mentally challenging and I work an 11 hour day. The wages to me do not come into it as I appreciate my job and my work colleagues and the fact that we are guaranteed payment of wages every friday.

You’ve dropped your hours then?
lesleyanne:
Thanks for your comments. I did go on the defensive but now understand that there are a few genuine people on this site.
Our Drivers are happy working for us or they would leave. We have on average 6 calls a week from Class 1 Drivers asking for positions within the Company do you think they would call if we were that bad an Employer. I work 60 hours a week in the Office then work in Licensed premises in the evenings, not because the wages are bad but because I want to. There are too many people out there that want things handed to them on a plate, if people are willing to work then they will be rewarded. How many employers have paid for their Drivers Digi Cards or CPC Training not many I know. If Drivers are self employed they would have to pay for their Medicals. Maybe its my generation but I always use “Only” in all conversations whether it be “only” £5000 for a car for example. The trucks are mostly cherished number plates so definately not dating back to 1901. I think the age of the truck is irrelevant they are all paid for and maintained to the correct requirements. The cost of living against the wages earned are enough to see my drivers through they are not forced to stay here but do so because they enjoy the work and have self respect rather than Whinging and signing on the dole or working for Agencies that promise the earth then give you two days a week of work.
Now, as I said before, your weekly wage may be average, and that’s all well and good, but there’s ways of paying that without insulting people.
Once again, I say, I could have earnt and DID earn more than £6.20 per hour doing a menial NONE-SKILLED job a long time before forking out for a HGV licence, a digi tacho, ADR, dCPC etc etc.
As I’ve agreed with Harry, I would work for your weekly wage, but I would NOT work for your hourly wage, and nor would you.
I’ve took my class 1+2 together, what I was working at died so needed a change. Something to do with driving seemed the obvious choice. I’m working mainly 26 tonne at the moment but the company expect you to drive anything they have if need be. I wouldn’t really get much more dosh for driving the class 1’s although I expect the company will move me in that direction “slowly”.
As for £6:20 you would think a fairly new licence holder like me would be appalled but to be quite honest, protectionism being what it is I hope it keeps people from taking the job up so that if things do pick up I get my chance. When things pickup they usually pick up across the board so maybe those looking for an easy out i.e “driver shortage etc” will start looking elsewhere.
The only thing that really ■■■■■■ me off, I became unemployed for a while and was entitled to SFA because my wife worked. I paid the full whack for my class 1+2 and Mr Scrote turns up at the brew and gets his paid that really rips my knitting. And seeing as I have a job paying tax sorry EMERGENCY TAX. It rips my knitting more.
So low wage away the only thing this thread shows is that having reached near minimum wage for class 1 it has to have hit the bump stops.
REMEMBER TIME ARE ARD AND ONLY THE ARD SURVIVE. Thats conservatism for you survival fo the fittest, been seen bought the tee-shirt in maggies class war. Oh and the word for companies like Coombe Valley Transport is opportunistic parasites.

No I work Saturday Mornings too in the Office sorting Drivers paperwork and any problems they may have

I suggested that you DON’T read the posts correctly. Where did I call you a name? I noticed that no-one called you anything. Mr Penn called an intolerable user on this thread a name. And called you his “girly friend.” You have proven yourself a lemon, and are very, very evasive in regards to a straight answer.
Now who is the trouble maker here?
For someone who is trying to impress us all, with your defence of a poor hourly rate.Your PR skills leave a lot to be desired.

Well Mr Harry Monk Ltd; if they are such a good firm why didn’t you take a job with them in the last 2yrs when you’ve kept bangin on about the reason you have had to go it on yer own is coz there were no decent jobs that paid the going rate yer [zb] hypocrite Now yer all dewy eyed over £6.20 per hr and if can do 12hrs & 15hrs and 5 nights out a week yer gonna have about £400.00.
I haven’t made this thread a personal crusade because if you had taken the time to read the post that opened this thread it was actually about how new entrants to the industry would be feeling mighty ■■■■■■ off after investing their hard earned and then being rewarded with cleaner’s rates £6.20 per hr. But there is one thing for sure I’m not going to take abuse from a wizened old trout or from the likes of you plus I don’t know where you and yer girlie friend in Dover have got the idea that I’m retired, not that it makes one iota of difference, but I’ve been back in the game for almost 3 yrs and I’ve put plenty of post’s and pics on here to show that but maybe coz this time round I was only driving a 7.5 tonner I wasn’t in the big wheeler club so what the [zb] do I know about the transport game Well I reckon it’s about 20yrs worth more than you Harry and you will have to work a lot harder than you do now to get to the same level I’d got to at age 22 Getting the OCPC isn’t the be all and end all and is a very basic qualification, well it has to be given the type of person who is usually having to do it, so just for you Harry unlike most people my route to driving was through the Traffic Office and by the age of 21 I had gained my Qualification for Foremen & Supervisors in Road Haulage and was elected a Member of the Chartered Institute of Transport now the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport and then payed for my own Class 1 and passed 4 days after my 21st birthday. So you and your girl friend in Dover can both be as patronising and have your digs at me and try to be as clever as you think you are coz I will not let you get away with it and you will find youv’e taken on the wrong person for sure Harry boy.
Regards
Dave Penn;

He actually says “from a wizened old trout OR FROM THE LIKES OF YOU”
“Is it so wrong to have an opinion and be big enough to stand up and be counted.?”
No it isn’t, and is it so wrong to answer a question in one word…yes/no? Instead of evasive tactics from post 1.

NO! But it deflects from the original question as to wether £6.20 ph is a reasonable hourly rate, so round and round we go. Ever thought about a career in politics lesleyanne?
