This is totally ridiculous for Class 1 work, even in these ‘Ard Times’, my recent 7.5ton work (2.5yrs) was paying more. Feel sorry for the guys/gals who might have paid an arm & a leg to get their ticket and then find that this rate of pay is what they are rewarded with.
Sounds like the sort of thing you’d do if you’d just passed your test and wanted to get all the damage/getting lost/take an hour to get it on the bay stuff done before you got a proper job.

Yes, and have a look into their yard, tight entrance and not much room to move
Everyone does know that you can ask for more money, right?
I’ve done that on several occasions and most times got a pay rise.
What you do is wait until late summer, on a sunny Friday, when they can’t even get agency drivers, then go and ask.
Don’t demand. Do it nicely. And if they won’t cough up, go and sign on a few agencies. You might lose short term but you’ll make the money up in the end.

Spooky, first of all it was a link to Coombe Valley Transport in Dover, Kent, then it turned into a link for cleaners in Kent, now it seems to be a page of driving jobs in Leeds?
bobbya:
Dave Penn;
It could be me but I followed this link and ended up looking at cleaners jobs in the Dover area.
The link’s gone down. Funny that. Luckily, I still have the page open…

dear sir
just seen your advert for the driving job, could you please tell me if the hourly rate is correct as advertised or is it a typing error or even a joke, because if this is correct there has to be a serious problem!!!
many thanks from a concerned driver with over 20 yrs. experience
I’m interested in applying for the job of experienced Class I LGV driver.
As you have claimed an exception under the Equality Act 2010, I think I’m ideal because I only have half a brain, and as you’re only paying just over half the going rate I think I’d fit right in.
I notice that there are no age restrictions which is just great, especially as the job pays nearly ten pence an hour more than my paper round!

What does this mean?
just had a bit of a skim through the legislation and if I read it properly there CAN be an exception to employing various groups for small companies.
Possibly this is what is meant but if so I would have expected to see it in almost all job adverts except large companies.
