Low Pay for C + E

■■■■! I didn’t read the application properly! You have to be over 21!

Back to the paper round.

sad face

del949:
just had a bit of a skim through the legislation and if I read it properly there CAN be an exception to employing various groups for small companies.

Things may have changed but it used to be the case that if you had less than 6 employees, you were exempt from some of it, for example you would be able to decline to employ a woman as she would be entitled to insist on separate lavatory facilities, and it would not be practical for a firm of that size to provide an additional toilet. I’m not sure if this is still the case though.

wildfire:
dear sir

just seen your advert for the driving job, could you please tell me if the hourly rate is correct as advertised or is it a typing error or even a joke, because if this is correct there has to be a serious problem!!!

If you get an answer, and it really is that low, post the reply and I’ll reword mine and send it to see what happens.

I do like a wind up, me.

And long may this advert go unanswered! He won’t be in business long that’s for sure. But hey, never mind 'cause Cameron, Milliband, Clegg or whoever (who have never had a ‘proper’ job) are listening and working to save the country! LMFAO!!!

To be fair, I’ve seen coombe valley have got some new motors. They’ve now got version 2 volvos

I have worked for a similar sounding outfit. They were nice people, actually; though their full timers (nine points each - eek!) were away most of the week on not very much money, I worked for them via an agency and only did eight hour days for about the same take home. They gave me the old dog to drive; it was legal, and it had a twin split which no one else could work so I stayed for a couple of months. They tried to get me to work full time, but I had to turn them down - for obvious reasons - and eventually they found someone. Dunno who.

I’ve heard they’re thinking of upgrading one of their trucks to a 2028 Merc.

Funnily enough they use to run old mercs of that type

I have been to there yard years ago, and it was apain in the arse to get to with a curtainsider on, as there was a low bridge and not the best of roads with a lot of parked cars

They have been on the go for at least 16 years that i know of, so must be doing something right…

Yeah, right for them

Yes, not wasting money on decent wages or kit.

davepenn54:
This is totally ridiculous for Class 1 work, even in these ‘Ard Times’, my recent 7.5ton work (2.5yrs) was paying more. Feel sorry for the guys/gals who might have paid an arm & a leg to get their ticket and then find that this rate of pay is what they are rewarded with.

Dave Penn;

why feel sorry for them? does somebody who spends time and money training for something without doing any research need sympathy?

Company is actually over 100 years old! Husk family.

And you can’t accuse them of not sticking to their roots. Probably still working with the same wage structure and looking to upgrade to stephensons rocket

I doubt that pay is all that it appears, probably some sort of productivity bonus scheme which they don’t want to inform Jobcentre about for obvious reasons.

Our transporter basic was about that, but an average wage was between £35 and £55k annual, pay scheme complicated as hell.

I have a friend who lives two minutes walk away from their yard, who has been driving for 25 years and he has never done a day’s work for them.

'nuff said!

Not necessarily Harry, i lived round the corner from my present job for over 20 years and never thought to contact them, now i live 10 miles away i work for them and its one of the best jobs (and best kept secret) i’ve ever had, you wouldn’t think so to hear some of the sods moan though, especially the ones who have been there 25 years or more… :unamused: .

Gotta Love this one though
