LGV licence free off the tax payers?

You had me noding in agreement there Snowman, then you had to go and spoil it with the Radio 1 statement! Have you no self respect man?

Nodding, not noding as that would look ridiculous!

snowman must be quite young if he’s looking to work for another 40 years in a truck :grimacing:
I hope you appreciate all the tax i paid for your school education scrounger !
its disgusting i think kids should pay for themselves or stay at home

I have not had Radio 1 on much this week since the new Prodigy album came out. :sunglasses:

Im potentially in this for 40yrs i suppose as i started when i was 21. I paid for all my tests (Roughly 2.5k when you factor in the medical, digi card and cpc along with the standard tests) so i was never tied down to any job or being a TM’s slave.

 Well im 36 so maybe 40 years was tad hopeful! 20-25 more realistically

Well as some know my licence was paid for ( when I was on the sick was long term ) but did have to jump through a lot of hoops for it

Had to provide a letter to say there was an offer of a job when I passed give up the back to work credit which I would have got since passing my test never looked back & never claimed so was it worth it for me yes

I was driving upto 7.5t until had to stop working this has all been documented on here

Instead of just expecting people to volunteer why not create more jobs with a proper wage to go with it instead this government has cut jobs

Since leaving school in 79 I have worked most of it ( took time out when I had children & then when was unable to work due to ill health )

My son who is nearly 26 has never claimed was at uni then 2 weeks later started work

There are jobs out there but you have to look for them & not as many as advertised

Robroy. I always loved trucks when I was a kid,as like many of you on here,i grew up having school holidays in a Merc 1617 ’ helping ’ my dad with the maps. Its funny really because my old man had a nice way of giving me just enough to do as a scrawny 9 year old,to help build my confidence up. 2.5K is expensive, but unfortunately I failed a couple of tests on ’ C ',but luckily flew straight through with C+E.
I cant say its always been a ’ burning ambition ',as ive had a number of jobs over the years including running my own business selling used cars. However its always been in my mind.
As regards doing something ’ better ',I find most employers want to wring every last drop out of you like a dishcloth, whether that be fork lifting, driving or even lots of office based work. At least driving trucks, you get to see places, basically left alone to manage the work yourself, and get to meet other drivers who you more often than not, help each other out and have a laugh.
I really enjoy driving trucks and often reflect on days out with my dad. Its a shame he never got to know that I have followed in his footsteps.

MuddaTrukka. Thankyou for calling me a clown.

Clowns can be entertaining and people PAY to see them.

You are not entertaining. You TAKE money. I have a job you can do- Wash my car and then kiss my ar*e.

I will give you a tenner.(For the motor. You can kiss my ar*e for free, scrounger).

Okay then; given that getting an LGV licence is a gamble which would set an ordinary individual back about three grand when you take into account the licence, medical, theory and two week’s holiday, how do you suggest people do it? Win the lottery? Save all their spare change in a gallon whisky bottle?

There isn’t going to be a wholesale flood of newly-qualified drivers on the market, for several reasons. Firstly, the funding isn’t there; secondly, when there is funding it’s normally in deprived areas where any kind of job is a welcome bonus; and thirdly, ours is a job that you’ve got to want to do. I’ve yet to meet anyone who drives a lorry simply because they have to; we should be more concerned that government initiatives target people who actually want to come into this industry and would be an asset to it, but cannot, through no fault of their own, afford to do so. That it does not always do so isn’t by definition the government’s fault; I’ve spent enough time behind a desk myself to know that there’s a difference between people who go to interviews to avoid work, and those who go because they actually want to work. Unfortunately, no government has yet had the cojones to enact anything remotely like the “workfare” system common in the USA, because the do-gooders think it’s cruel.

if u think there are drivers out there that have no option than be in this rat race profession to put food on the table /pay bills u are on another planet . id like to be a airline pilot but geuss what the govt/tax payer wont train me so i do what i can do which i worked hard in crap jobs 4 3yrs to save the money for class one license. thats me no dole/benefits/funding this country has gone mad and now the courses will be full of ex commi bloc who will soon jump on this little bandwagon but hey lets just keep going and give the whole once gr8 nation away to theese proffesional scroungers and your yoghurt muncher brigade like yourself

You’ve got to wonder what goes through some people’s heads. Or how they even get to that way of thinking.

Scheme only open to ‘residents’ of Calais.

ha ha ye good one and having seen some of the new recruits in calais cant wait to have the poor soles as my brother truckers :imp:

You got me totally wrong sunshine. Read my posts again and tell me where I’m defending professional scroungers please.

You’d like to be an airline pilot; well one of the first tests you’d do is one that involves reading stuff and interpreting the correct meaning, so I guess you’ll have to keep dreaming on that one. if you seriously think I’ve got any liberal leanings please read my previous post again, particularly the last sentence; it might give you a better clue.

The “little band-wagon” you describe has been going for donkeys years, before you or I were even born; it’s called government-funded training and it’s designed to get folk off benefits and into work. It is not perfect, but it helps. Basically, it takes some of the money you and I pay in taxes, and pays for people who we are already paying for in taxes to get off benefits and pay taxes themselves, so that you and I no longer have to waste our taxes on them, and (hopefully) it makes for a better society where we’re all working. Can you please tell me why that is a bad thing?

So let me get this right. What you’re saying is that because you did the hard miles and paid for your own licence (as I did actually) you begrudge someone else who perhaps doesn’t have the ability to save up enough money (that’s pretty much everyone who has a family and works in a crap job) the chance to get a licence and be a professional driver? Most of those people who apply don’t do so because they want to stay on the dole; I don’t know if you’ve ever been on benefits yourself but trust me, it isn’t funny if like me you’ve been brought up with a work ethic. It’s demeaning, soul-destroying and deeply unpleasant.

There has been some form of funding available for LGV/PCV training for a long time, but the funding that the DWP used to sponsor was very limited and you had to have a guarantee of a full time job from a employer if you passed the test, and you only got 2 stabs at it
I support funding for stuff like this as i feel it’s a good thing and a step in the right direction in tacking unemployment, they should be funding the farce called the DCPC to those with LGV /PCV licences that cannot drive comercially because they ain’t got the blue card due to being out of work maybe through no fault of their own, because not everyone on benefits are lazy spongers unlike what this shower of cretins in government and the lap dog daily bs mail would like you to belive

Think of it this way. The government can sponsor someone back into work and becoming a fellow taxpayer - yay for them.

Or

They can continually sponsor that persons entire life indefinitely.

It’s a no brainer.
