Lady truckers!

It doesn’t offend me Dazza  …but it’s common knowledge how I feel about ‘true’ Lady truckers and if I let you get away with that I’d never hear the end of it

And I’m not liberated, or a feminist

Just love the job and want to do it the way you do

Pat

Dazza:
Oh no, the feminists have started ganging up on me… :stuck_out_tongue:

If you can’t stand the heat don’t ask a wagon driver to cook, Daz!

“hiya,
nothing wrong with women drivers,it’s a different set up now when i was doing your job it was a job really only men could do high loads ropes and sheets it was very hard and i wouldn’t expect a lady to want to do it during my time i did see the occasional lady driver usually driving a tipper or a van trailer whats wrong with that keep on trucking ladies when there’s more of you i might dust off the old hgv 1,and if they removed the limiters, couldn’t plod about at 58 mph be bored to tears.
thanks harry long retired”

Not true!

I was trucking from '78 - '92 and most of that was roping and sheeting - and driving motors with crash gearboxes and occasionally (but luckily not too often!) without power steering. I also had to handball a lot of my loads or get a key to an empty warehouse and drive the forklift myself. Oh happy days before 'Elf ‘n’ Safety stuck his nose into everything!
And no, I wasn’t built like brick sh…, 5’1" and under 9 stone. I didn’t get offered help as often as I offered it e.g. sheeting up in a high wind was a great source of amusement for many of the guys, but I wouldn’t have dreamed of watching someone struggle if I could be of use. Same applies to folding up your sheet - two minute job for two people, 10 minutes of battling with the wind on your own.

This lady trucker is a right nutter (in a good way)

I find it difficult to believe a 5’1" 9 stone women could rope & sheet! I for one do not beleive you would have the strength to lift the sheets never mind the strength required for roping. Don’t get me wrong your either a good driver or a bad driver, nothing to do with gender. I do believe the male is more versatile than the female when it comes to driving and thats all down to physical strength. I had a fridge on the other day where the seals on the back doors were so tight that I struggled to open them! I’m 5’10" and 17 stone.

When I started Roping and sheeting I was a touch over 10 stone,(those were the days) and that was with all in one sheets ( imagine a full sheet made of Fly sheet material ) I soon learnt moving sheets about and getting them on top of loads is not about pure muscle, but about technique., bearing in mind we had one sheet of “all in one” that would completly cover a 20 foot flat rack loaded with Hardboard higher than the end sections of the flatrack.

they were heavy buggers but with a bit of thought and technique , and lots of practise I could get them ontop of the load without ruinng my chance of ever having children, strength isnt everything .

I know women who can rope and sheet as good as I could and very slight slim men do the same and move the sheets about as needed, I also have known big blokes who struggle to get the rolled sheet on the back of the trailer bceuase they relied on pure muscle rather than thinking about it.

roping and sheeting… not done it for about 17 years, couldn’t possibly do it now anyway have metal plate and pins in right hand and wrist, anyway lady drivers i worked with one at grampian maclennans… (bloody good driver) and working with one now, its nice to see a lady trucker, almost as nice to see a lady biker ( which my wife is) happy days

You are right about sheeting its about technique, like the amount of people I see fighting to shut a curtain in the wind, you are never going to win that one so be patient wait for the wind to drop which it normally does or reposition your truck at a different angle to the wind.

Sorry, your wrong! I did it regularly when I was driving, and I was just over 5’1" but under 9 stones. but that’s a very long time ago.

It is all about technique not all brute strength as I have said before Im 4ft 10 ( 147 cm ) about 7.2 st ish and have managed to rope & sheet no for a long time if they are folded right you dont have to be the biggest or anything else it might have taken me a bit longer than somebody a "bit " taller than me but so what

Careful or I shall SKI

I still don’t believe it, 5’1"women weighing 9 stone carrying a 20ft double deck sheet or having enough tension on the ropes does not seem possible. So to rope and sheet a 40ft trailer with 2 sheets and fly sheet seems improbable! Thats just my opinion, I have been wrong before, cant remember when though

Face up to the facts, it’s a way for dumb white guys to make a living. How many times have you peed in a lay by, eaten the the most disgusting food and gone to work at silly o clock. Why would women, or any other section of society get involved in transport.
