No no!! This is a real one, i’ll tell ya at the weekend
I don’t get on too well with female drivers myself. I was talking to a woman trucker the other night at Rugby. Usuall banter, where ya been where ya going that type of stuff. Then i said and here we both are miles away from home, lonley, bored and ■■■■■…and she walked off?! Wierd they are i’ll tell ya.
I am surprised she satyed around long enough to hear this again
do you get on with any females or is it just female drivers?
hiya,
nothing wrong with women drivers,it’s a different set up now when i was doing your job it was a job really only men could do high loads ropes and sheets it was very hard and i wouldn’t expect a lady to want to do it during my time i did see the occasional lady driver usually driving a tipper or a van trailer whats wrong with that keep on trucking ladies when there’s more of you i might dust off the old hgv 1,and if they removed the limiters, couldn’t plod about at 58 mph be bored to tears.
thanks harry long retired

I know that I"ll get slaughtered for saying this but as anybody met a “fit one”?
Roughly 10 months ago, I was going up the A34 and as I was approaching the A303 on slip, I pulled out to let another artic on. As I went past, I looked across to see a vision of beauty driving it. I pulled into Sutton Scotney and she followed me in and parked on the pumps. We were both heading for the shop and as I came up behind her, I asked her ‘Shouldn’t she be modelling?’. She was stunning!! As tall as me with long legs and long fair hair nearly to her waist. I got a big smile for my cheeky remark (no doubt she had heard it before) and an old man went off on his day happy lol

I was waiting for the punchline !!
Was expecting, “she walked into the gents and stood at the urinall for a [zb]” - kin itie ladyboys!!
I think women drivers are great. I know of at least 3 that i speak to on a regular basis. I have met Pat up the road and had a chat with her (scania pilot ) me personally i think there should be more lady drivers. I was once sitting on a bay at Tesco’s welham green. The bays aren’t great to back into and to be honest i’d had a shunt to get it right, anyway, a young lady ( LATE 20’S) came to my door and asked if i would watch her reverse on to the bay next to me? No problem. She did it in one sweep. Not a single shunt, straight onto the door, unit and trailer perfectly in line. I was impressed. I hadnt seen anyone else that afternoon do it in one.
Gonna get slaughtered for this but hey… cracking looking lady driver from Innovate, sorry Stobbarts, sat near to me at Tes-slow Sarf ampton on Mon night, Slim and Very ■■■■ looking.....( sorry if youre reading this ) but a bit of a give away was the PINK Hi-Vis, if it had been yellow I probably would`nt have noticed her…YEAH RIGHT
IMHO if they can do the job…let em do it.........wouldnt mind a very long Euro run, double manned with the Inov…sorry Stobbart driver above:lol:
There’s a couple of lovely Ladeeez that work for Knights of Old.
Most of the women I see on the roads just look like blokes
Good luck to them though,I like to see proper women doing a proper days work and not being all ‘Girly’ about it.
It’s time for a contentious one to kick off the new bulletin boards, so here goes.
Are there enough women in our industry?
Personally I don’t think there are, and while I’m not in favour of any kind of “positive discrimination” I sometimes wonder if the employers could do more to attract women into haulage.
I’m not after a load of abuse, just your thoughts.
On first impressions, the number of female users on Trucknet is disproportionate compared with the actual number doing the job. I’ve seen a slight increase in the number of women drivers I’ve encountered over the past ten years, but still they only account for around 2% of the total.
The girls that post on here seem to do a wide range of trucking jobs, containers, tramping, continental work etc. Maybe the media would look a little more favourably at us if they could get away from the stereotypical “fat hairy bloke driving a truck” image.
It’s worth a thought.
Dazza
P.S. I’m currently working alongside a lady trucker at the moment and where she can’t put her 44ft trailer “it aint goin’ in!”
I agree it should be more high profile as the women drivers I know are more than capable of doing the job… better than a lot of men. (and their cabs are much more hygenic…)
However, some jobs are [zb] and most women just dont want to do them which is fair enough! (is it sexist and are we the dumb ones for doing the [zb] jobs? should we refuse lads?)
As a young tipper driver I was sat in a queue at Avonmouth grain terminal and a vision of beauty came backwards over the truck in front of me (a fit lady driver pulling the sheet off)… I was in awe… Speechless and shy I wanted her to ask her to marry me and we could raise little tipper drivers together; but all I said was “hello!”
There will always be a huge disparity in the number of male v female drivers. It takes a certain kind of woman to want to work long hours, either on their own or surrounded by mainly men, not all of whom are either polite or helpful Spend half of their days covered in muck or grease or both Be able to put up with the banter and give back as good as they get Live in an 8’ x 6’ tin box with no luxuries And have very little home life Even in todays society, with a few notable exceptions, women still have the main role as homemaker and it is an almost impossible task when working 60 - 80 hours per week. I can’t remember the last time i got to the hairdressers, doctors etc… Most of my friends would last about three days in this job. The first time they had to get washed in cold water or night out in a layby with no facilities they would die. It is not a criticism by the way but a statement of fact (they are always telling me I am mad)
Until working conditions and hours improve i am afraid that is how it will stay
I know I’ve said this ad nauseum before, but it’s a new board so best I say it again…plus I’d hate to disappoint Daz when he’s looking for a rise…
In my book, discrimination is discrimination…which means that positive discimination is every bit as bad as the negative type.
I seem to spend half my working life convincing people that the reason I get away with more than most at work has nothing to do with fact that I’m female and everything to do with the fact that I’m good at my job and am prepared to do that extra little bit when needs be…although the fact that I can have an appallingly sharp tongue when I’m upset probably has a bearing as well…
At the end of the day, either you can do the job or you can’t, and you either want to do the job or you don’t…add to that the fact that even in this day and age women are brought up to believe that our place is to be looking after the children and you can see why the numbers are still low.
I know from personal experience how hard it is to juggle the whole mother/wagearner thing - I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been told I can’t possibly love my daughter because I don’t want to be home with her 24/7, and the next person who tells me how “lucky” I am that her father does the childminding thing “for me” is heading for the nearest hospital forthwith.
It’s just a fact of life that the whole being away and long hours thing doesn’t fit in with a traditional family lifestyle…it’s not a male/female thing, it’s a way it is thing, and no amount of publicity or recruitment is going to alter that.
The only real solution would be a radical change in working practices - something which would benefit families of all shapes and sizes. But let’s face it, it’ll be a long time before that happens in an industry which has traditionally been so resistant to modernistion and compromise.
For now? I’m not a “Lady Trucker” or a “Woman Lorry Driver”. I’m just a driver. End of story.
I’v worked alonside one lady trucker & many lady PSV drivers.
Given that a driver is either good or not so good & that we all have to reach the same standard to pass the test, I’v personally never heard any logical reason for not encouraging more female drivers.
Also with this WTD all the unsocial/long working hours arguments are going to be put out.
Oh & the lady trucker I worked alonside was dreadful at reversing, but then so was I, ( but we had only just passed out class 1 test at the time.)
Oh no, the feminists have started ganging up on me…
Listen ladies, I wasn’t trying to be rude, after all Lucy you did ask for some interesting topics and so far there hasn’t been any sexist remarks and it will probably stay that way.
Pat, I’m sorry that the term “lady trucker” offends you, I’m part of the old school of drivers - and a Yorkshireman - where people don’t realise when they’re being “offensive” but as they say, people will always find something to complain about.
