Hey hey I am not competing, I am just a ■■■■■■

Recriminations aside- Well done DB, you’ve been about on here a while I didn’t realise you’d only passed so recently.

I drove an MAN 18T the other week and it was the worst rigid I’ve ever driven around town the turning circle is shocking and you really have to know where to plant them on sharp turns otherwise you’ll be taking an embarrassing shunt (and I did several times  )
It’s no coincidence the big city centre multi drop outfits all use DAF LF’s- maybe not the best lorries but they turn on a sixpence by comparison

Well done with getting the job Dan. Another success story is great to read

Hi Andy, thanks for sympathising with the man turning circle lol! I’m currently in one of their 7.5t’s so it’s not too bad.

Well where do I start with this week, been absolutely manic with this job trying to learn and take it all in. After my two days buddying up last week I’m now out on my own, Monday was of course a rel eye opener :open_mouth: , the stand out points were two pallets of paving slabs weighing about a ton each, well it felt like it anyway  , had to deliver to a residential property. Would you believe their house was on an incline !! Well I pulled up facing down the slope and you know what’s gonna happen next don’t you? Coz they were so bleedin heavy I couldn’t move them back to the tail lift, coz it’s a 7.5t it doesn’t have rear air suspension to level it out, which would of come in handy to say the least! Anyway I turn round so I’m now facing up the slope and try again, and I get the pallet onto the pump truck and that’s where the fun starts, I’m literally holding onto this thing for dear life trying to keep control of it, start it rolling and stop it just in time to save it going off the end of the tail lift. This thing was half on/ half off so I left it there and we hand balled all the slabs off in the end,

And I struggled with the tacho as well coz the unit I’ve got automatically switches to break when you take the keys out, which I had real trouble remembering! So it’s lucky I’m new in the job so that’s my excuse, but just about kept on top of it today and remembered nearly every time ,
Apparently we get a bonus for keeping the lorry clean/washed so I’m gonna have to do that Friday if I get time . Had a woman refuse a delivery yesterday coz their was a hole in the box (no visible damage), and then she was moaning coz she was now late for the school run! It’s like “well you refused it, not me!” So that got returned to depot.

But all in all I’m very much enjoying the experience and learning everyday, even liking driving the little lorry around, just for a month then onto something bigger

I could write more but it’d take forever, and I’m getting ■■■■■■ off with this iPad predictive text crap

So that’s it for now,

Regards anyway

DB

Sounds like you had fun Dan, and the slabs scenario could have been worse. You could have ended up trying to convince them that crazing paving was the new in thing!

I’m dreading the Tacho cockup myself, and just telling myself to do a print out and shamefully write on the back why I’m an idiot!

Glad it went well, and it could have been worse. Imagine doing it in a dress! :open_mouth:

Lol yea or a mosaic haha! The look on the guy’s face was a picture. Well I’ve cocked up on the tacho all 3 days do far so I need to get my head round it while I’m still wearing the new guy tag. But there’s so much to remember and think about, don’t get me wrong. I love driving but I’m still glad to get home at the end of the day lol!

And it’s shorts for me mate, luckily we’re allowed them. You’d need a pretty tough dress to stand up to the daily rigours of truck driving, but also easy access when you need it  :open_mouth:

Well it’s been an interesting end to the week, I had another paving slab incident today, but with two pallets of roof tiles instead :open_mouth: , they weren’t stacked very well either! I strapped them down with two ratchets apiece and I was going round roundabouts about 20 mph lol, but it paid off though coz I got them safely delivered. After my last experience I didn’t over compensate trying to put them on the tail lift, and in the end I just helped hand ball them off. It took a bit longer but the customer was happy so that was job done.

And yesterday I was involved in an accident! Nothing serious, but was driving on single carriageway and lorry coming towards me was carrying breeze blocks, you can probably guess where this is going! Anyway the car in front of him decided to stop without indicating to go down a side road, well old matey has either been caught out by the car drivers stupidity or he wasn’t paying attention :open_mouth: , so he’s stamped on the brakes and some of his load shifted and a couple of blocks fell into the road, and I had no choice but to drive Into one as it bounced towards me! Very luckily it only ripped the number plate and mounting off. Glad it didn’t bounce underneath my truck or could of done a lot more damage, and no cars were directly behind him so they didn’t get peppered with bits of rubble! And later that day I was nearly forced off the road when a guy decided to change lanes at the very last minute, that was so close it wound me right up so I gave him a blast of the horn for about 20 seconds, and he sheepishly flashed his hazard lights at me in response. It just shows that absolutely anything can happen on the road at anytime, so keep your eyes on the road and not on the scenery  , we know how tempting it is

DB

Sounds like you are fitting in just fine! I see you’ve already made friends with the “I have to be infront of you at any cost driver”

Please observe that it is company policy for ALL company vehicles NOT to have adornments such as mascots, cuddly toys or breeze blocks attached to the front, whether you chose to add them or not! :grimacing:

Please note that in certain circumstances beavers are permitted, especially if they are extra keen!

Also:-

A change of underwear sir?

Beavers are an essential part of any successful business.

Especially the erm… adult entertainment type.

Yeah a new pair of shorts required mate :open_mouth: , my arse was tight for a while after that

Well done sounds great! I have an interview for dhl Wednesday im bricking it :stuck_out_tongue:

Cool mate well done, Is that trunking work then? Delivering parcels to the depots?

I also read that your interview has been put back, well same thing happened to me chap, twice :open_mouth: ! I thought they were winding me up but I persevered and now I’ve just finished my first week with them. So good luck with the interview

Regards

There is a bad joke in there somewhere, and I’m going to rise above it…

It’s all fun though, I bet you can’t wait for the next ■■■ clencher to make life interesting!

And I see the prodigal son of ROG returns (Ash001) Glad you’ve got the interview pal, best of luck and (as an old git) i’d say it’s mainly about being Keen! Keen! & Keen! (You can start the moaning after you’ve got the job!)

Just think of this during the interview: If Dan Bear can get a job, then I can a piece of ■■■■! (Only kidding Dan!)

I’ve got my test Class C test tomorrow, so off to bed now after doing a through Google Street view of a specific junction in Mansfield.

Any guesses people?
