For those that still have doubts about this piece of road, I will phone a Leics police traffic contact at about 915 this evening and give you his answer.
Answer from the above -
If 50 mph signed then it is 50 mph for LGVs as that piece of road is a dual carriageway
Anyone who has been prosecuted for going less should contest the NIP in court.
It is the Warwickshire safety camera partnership that is responsible for that particular camera

Speaking to other drivers at depot a few have been flashed this week… one last week and he paid as it said he was exceeding the limit for his class of vehicle,
Another lad is going to fight it. When i see him i will point him to this thread… also honest johns site and pepipoo
That is a 40mph stretch & it’s there purely to nick us lorry drivers, I got flashed at 44mph after some heavy braking coming back from TNT at Atherstone one night shortly before I left for Canada, I ignored the NIP as was my standard practice (yeah I’m dishonest, SFW)
I’ve driven up that stretch of road a number of times, both day & night & never once seen any accidents or evidence of any, you know what I mean, skidmarks, paint on the road, bumpers in the verge, broken glass etc.
My blood pressure is rising now & I feel the need to punch a member of the safety camera partnership until my hands are bleeding
YES IT IS! There is one carriageway for traffic going one direction, and another carriageway for the traffic going the other direction. That makes it a DUAL carriageway.
As Coffeeholic said earlier in the thread, it is deeply concerning that so many drivers don’t even know what the difference between Single and Dual carriageways are.
Roll on the driver CPC, it seems at least 50% of the TN membership desperately need it!
Smee:
So then every A or B road with a lane going in each direction is a Dual carriage way…
No because as already explained several times in this thread to be a dual carriageway the lanes have to be separated by a physical barrier. It doesn’t matter if there is one lane each way or six, if it is separated by a physical barrier it is a dual carriageway and the speed limit for trucks is 50mph unless posted lower.

Fixed camera info for the pic shown in the first post in this thread - strange as it says - national speed limit
I have just spoken to the head of the Warks safety camera team on 01926 418612 and have some info for you folks regarding the very first pic in this long 4 page thread -
It is a dual carriageway
It is a posted 50 limit
The camera is set to 50
The LGV speed limit is 50
If it does flash and the camera pic shows a speed of under 50 then no action will be taken
This camera does get confused with the one on the other side which is further away and in a single carriageway section - that one is 40 for LGVs.
The HA have not updated the website in regard to the speed limit which is why it shows a national one.

How long before somebody turns the tables and makes a successful prosecution for unnecessary suffering and stress caused by a malfunctioning camera whilst abiding by the speed limit They’ve even inadvertently gone to the trouble of gathering your evidence for you.

Here in Staffordshire, where the roadsides are littered with Gatso cameras, there was an article in one of the local papers in which the Scamera Partnership were explaining how the cameras were set up. Apparently the cameras are bought by the SP in sets of 10 Gatso boxes which are installed at fixed locations but there were only 2 cameras and 2 extra dummy flasher units that were rotated between the camera positions. The idea was that the punters never knew where the cameras were and the dummy flashers were to make people think there were more cameras than really existed. Sounds like a form of terrorism to me. In addition to that, the cameras were set to flash at random when they ran out of film. This was about 3 or 4 years ago so things may have changed since such as upgrading to digital cameras. They may also have more cameras to put in the boxes now too.
Apart from sites where very serious injury or deaths have occured within a certain time frame, I would like to see speed cameras scrapped and replaced with those that remind a driver of their current speed along with the current speed limit - they seem to work just as well IMO.

Enforcing should come after educating.
Gordon needs the income. There are a lot of jobs based on fleecing the motorist. Would you like to see some of these people in the dole queue?
I would!
Following on from my last post -
I would also like to see hidden mobile camera vans about 300 yards after a light up speed warning sign - those that ignored the warning get done

The CPC will not make a difference. No set standards of training, or even a syllabus of what needs to be thought. As long as you ‘attend’ 35 hours of training, regardless of you actualy learning anything (or attempting to learn anything…), you will be qualified as a ‘competent’ driver. You don’t even need to do an exam.
Most companies will sent an (approved) assesor out with the driver one day a year, on his regular job, and that will be it…
Just another useless piecce of legislasion, designed to fleece us of more money.
a) The Camera had a false activation.
b) The safety partnership have got it wrong and set the camera to 40 for HGV’s.
If they have got it wrong then is it worth the hassle of possibly getting a nip to contest it when you will be slowing down to 40 mph in less than than 20 seconds anyway when the divider ends or when a car puls out in front of you from the A444.
Another point to note is that neither camera there is a cash cow to be honest.
Before the limits were reduced ,cameras put in and the hatch lines painted in to close one lane off there was some horrendous accidents down there. If you wanted to cross the A5 you were taking your life into your hands.
I can’t beleive I said that “not a cash cow”.
It is still a dodgy bit of road as you still get cars etc trying to get past you on the hatchings.Whilst it is a 50 limit on that stretch it is pretty much an irrelevant issue for what must be the shortest stretch of dual carriageway in the UK. About all 1000 yds of it
Seeing as I seem to have added fuel to the fire i may have got it wrong if i have I apologise. But I got nicked three years ago this coming june on the A5 near Atherstone heading south. he stretch of road I was on carried a 50 limit for all vehicles it changes to a single carriage way and I got an SP10 as i didn’t slow down quick enough. I was flashed by a permant camera not a mobile.
saucyboar5:
due to the hatchings, its a single road, so 40mph chaps
It’s a single lane, but it’s a duel carraigeway as there is a barrier between the traffic flowing in each direction. Speed limit is therefore 50.
Someone above mentioned the A556 between the M56 and M6, this is 4 lanes (2 each way) and sign posted as 60 then 50mph. Most people think it’s duel but there is no central divider so the limit is 40mph.
