Is interest waning in this TN site? Just curious!

Rikki-UK:
hmm lets see…
100,000 more page views a month on this forum alone than two years ago?
dont think so :grimacing: however the forum always every goes a bit quiet Jan- May ( to use a term , its a seasonal trend)
Interest waning? nah dont think so somehow

Check your stats Rikki. The most users ever online was 984 on Sat Mar 03, 2012 9:14 pm.
I think the forums are still going strong, regardless of the time of year.
Cheers Dave.

i’M NOT A STATASTICION ( DONT UNDERSTAND THEM !!!) BUT I HOPE THINGS CONTINUE STRONGLY IN HERE , IT IS A GREAT PLACE TO SPEND SOME TIME IN…

LONG MAY IT CONTINUE…KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK T.N.

OFF-TOPIC FORUM PAGE.

I strongly suggest that TRUCKNETUK opens and starts a new page-forum for Off-Topic Subjects, covering
anything and everything under - and over - the sun
Other well-known and not so well-known specialist and not so specialist websites have a Off-Top Page, where members discuss music, films, politics, religion, the state of the world, tell each other jokes, personel stories,
pay tributes to heros - still living and deceased. Members also talk about motorcars, motorcycles (and what
cars and motorbikes they have owned),sports, such as football, snooker, crown green bowling, motor sport, they also put up videos and soundtracks of their favourite music and so on  YOUTUBE video films are very welcome! :exclamation:
So having an Off-Topic Page-Forum might boost membership and/or increase the useage of TRUCKNETUK
So please, lets have an Off-Topic Page

Sorry, I disagree with this. Strict regimentation of the content will put people off. Allowing digressions, just like in normal conversation, can leaven the lorry talk we all love, so improving it. I would not bother to read a separate section for other subjects; I can read about music or whatever on sites with those subjects at their core. If a lorry conversation meanders “off the road”, let it. There is no need for Trucknet to expand- it is healthy enough on its merits. We don’t want to take over the World.

Its not the site Dennis, its you that is waning!!

I reckon we should be given a bottle of beer for reaching 10 posts a week as an incentive.

A bottle of (decent) beer for every 10 posts Dave ? Bloody hell you’d be ■■■■■■ every day then !!   :unamused: :sunglasses:  Dennis.

perhaps a better option would be to give Dennis a bottle of beer for not posting!!!

I come on TN on Friday have one look at the Professional Drivers thread and then move to this one and I may or may not, give this another look in on Saturday. I’m on nights Sun-Thur and the laptop isnt touched during that time.Like others have said, I too am not always sure of my facts so stay away although in the past I have checked something before posting, because one thing for certain is that someone will be on yer case with some sarcy comment about how wrong you are, as I have experienced after posting in good faith and its the sort of guff I don’t need, but I cant be bothered checking anymore so dont post and sometimes I haven’t a clue what people are on about anyway. Then there can be a thread that starts of well and becomes an exchange between old mates, nowt wrong with that but no interest to me, or it degenerates into a personal attack in one or either direction as with Detroit power and Gardner engines a while back so again I just drift away and leave em to it. Bewick alludes to not taking it too serious and he is right but its far better to leave the meatheads to it and let them pleasure themselves than give them any more reason for arousal.

Wooooah! …Nah, he’s only joking Mr S. … I hope! …Yeah, look there’s a little winky face at the bottom!

Back to your question though, I had been thinking the same for some time! Although I look in most days, I don’t feel so inclined to post on stuff much now. Mind you, I have been a lot busier this last year, so that might have some bearing on it. I was thinking perhaps it all gets a bit familiar after a while, I don’t know, but I certainly don’t get the wow factor, (as they say!) these days.
Having said that, I posted on an old thread a couple of days ago, that had stopped in October, got no response, but two lads are in conversation now and keeping the thread going again! So perhaps it’s a case of “I must try harder”  One thing’s for sure, if everyone stopped posting, it’s “game over!”

I think it ebbs and flows sometimes a thread gets going and you will be posting a lot other times you have a look and not much of interest to you so you don’t look.
Even the much maligned and at times misguided carryfast it has to be admitted helps threads as it gets lots of people going. Look at the Gardner thread I don’t think without his contribution we would have got as much valuable in do out of guys like bewick and Laurence Dunbar who ran them and saviem who has good knowledge of the truck market of that period.
If u see a certain person has posted in a thread il often look even if its not something I’d be that interested in as they often have interesting veiws

I’d like to see more photo’s than we seem to get now, some threads are pages of writing, nothing too wrong with that but a pic added inbetween adds interest. The daily selection from Bubbs and Oily were great for a time but I haven’t got any interest in the modern or foreign stuff which has more input now. Long dragged out debates about BHP and Torque ratings just send me to sleep, drivers seem to be obsessed with this for some reason. I’ll add some info or a pic if anyone asks but sometimes what you put up gets no response and ends up on the second page in a day or two. I’ll have to apoligise to Valkyrie and Renee Pilot (I’m sure they are the same) but I can’t get into their long posts of technical diatribe although some might find it interesting. All in all I don’t comment as much as previous and might just have a quick skip through and if nothing catches my eye I’m back out again but its still nice to have a site like this, anyway too much waffle here’s a pic! Franky.

My missus is Scaryport born and bred, born at Fothergill and spent most of her life in Netherton. I’m from Netherton too (in Liverpool - scouser born and bred)

I have not posted anything for a month now. Not because of lack of interest but because I have been lying flat for the past month with a trapped nerve in my back. It has been really depressing. Still no light at the end of the tunnel so far. Cannot even have a scan at present due to not being able to lie flat and still for the time required - pain too much. It is very difficult just typing this email

As for the site becoming stale - I do not think so, there are the usual first page favourites and others that come and go. Maybe viewers should look beyond page 1 and resurrect some more subjects on old companies from the archive pages.

I will submit more pictures when I am able too - some people appreciate my images from the 50s and 60s from the Kenney & Ingram archives - and I enjoy participating on the forum even if sadly I seem to have made some enemies on the way.

Finally, well done Bubs for raising all that money to help in Martin Phippard’s welfare.

Your postings of photographs, etc.,… has been sadly missed. Didnt know you have been laid up, - thought youd ventured abroad for warmer weather . Look after your back , and hope youre soon back on your feet` again.

Cheers, cattle wagon man.

I’ve been reading the comments and thought I’ll “hud ma wheest” (keep silent) but being as Frankydobo gives me a mention, here’s my take on it.
Before becoming a member of TN I had a fair collection of lorry stuff from the internet, also books and old magazines and the odd photo which I’d been e-mailed, all purely for my own pleasure. On joining and after a while I started to share what I had, giving no thought to copyright etc, hey I was in bother  anyway got sorted and now I make an effort to get permission(100 percent successful so far) or endeavour to post stuff that has permissable licence(varied) for use on TN.
The real point I would like to make is and this also applies to others who organise and keep threads going, it is hugely time consuming (for me 2/3 hours minimuum daily) and relevant to the point Bubbleman makes and to which I agree is it really worthwhile  I gave due consideration to this last year and thought I’ll keep going until Dec (Past, Present 1 year old) but then at Christmas time a really nice message arrived from a fellow member in appreciation of my postings, that among other responses keeps me going.
I speak for myself when I say I enjoy very much reading the yarn or viewing the pictures on TN and therefore respond with my input to Past and Present etc. The feedback I get I judge on picture view tally which can range from 1000 on one page to 200/300 on another so it does wax and wane. Best reward is the posting of a picture that generates discussion between fellow members.
I will take this opportunity to mention that yesterday and quite by chance I met a chap who has an absolute goldmine of lorry photos going back many years, we got on like a house on fire in fact if it had not been for other appointments we would still be chatting, better still he has given me access to his collection for posting on TN.
So to all you guys (and girls) out there I trust you will keep in mind that those of us who post pictures on here do it unselfishly and for the enjoyment of all.
This community spirit is alive and well.
Cheers
Oily
