Is interest waning in this TN site? Just curious!

Evening Gentlemen, well Ive been absent for a time, because we are going like stink to get some seeds into the ground, and we have months of work to make up.

I do not think that interest is waning…this site, (and its various forums), is really like a magazine, but a rapidly changing one at that!! You dip into it, turn a few pages, and if there is something of interest you stick with it…or if not you go away. I am reminded of this as I look at the cardboard box filled with unopened copies of Classic Commercials, and since the editorial change, Heritage Commercials, that although I have “invested” in subscriptions, I cannot be bothered to open as the content is so poor, or plain inaccurate!!

Now for me Truck Net is something different, peopled by people who have like me worked within the various sides, drivers, mechanics, operators, owner drivers, et al of the industry, or, are real enthusiasts for the industry. The contributions are heavy with “real” experiences or beliefs. I am really sad the comments on this thread, stating that people have a reluctance to post. Be assured all posts have value, ok, there can be leg pulling, sometimes bad behaviour, (and Im guilty of this), but the strength of the site is the real “in depth” experience of our industry. And the variety of the threads is enormous,…and B…y entertaining!!

Personally I love the site, the words, the experiences, the labour of love that are the photographic threads, (I cannot even down load my digital camera …oh sad old man)!!!

Gentlemen, please keep on going…PLEASE!! Im away to the Bollinger, for we will be out before first light tommorow, whilst the weather is with us…reminds me of my driving days, and the excitement of the early hours, (and the late ones as well)

A BIENTOT Cheerio fr now.

I think there are various reasons why this site seems quiet at times. Some members have problems with their PC’s,others have family problems ie illness etc.Others are moving house. Most come back after a while…unless they have a new woman. :open_mouth:
Cheers Dave.

Evening Dave, Ive reached the age where a nice roast Chicken Dinner is far , far prefarable!!! (and easier to cope with)!!

Hey, we have been without a telephone line for fourteen days, and no apologies at all!!!

Hope you are both well, Cheerio for now.

Just joined so I am a don’t know ,but I do enjoy the banter but there is those when offered a bit of info won’t or can’t pick up the dog. Joepipe

Just looking back through this thread, as Joe has re-opened it, and it does seem that many of those who posted on here are not doing so now. Some have passed on to the ‘Highway in the Sky’ as we know (and maybe more than we actually know of?) but there is still lively debate occouring daily and ‘new blood’ has come on the scene as well. Sometimes posters must think that they are talking to themselves, and I don’t put on as much as I could incase I overdo things, but I think that most topics do get read even if comments are not left.

Pete.

I have to say that, unless I have something pertinent to a post I don’t usually comment. Except, of course, to take the pi** out of over paid retired haulage magnates from ■■■■■■■ now and then!

I would think if there was a ‘LIKE’ button similar to Face Book truck related sites then it would show how many posts are read but not necessarily replied to, some threads do start off with interesting potential but then get banjaxed into a mire of incomprehensible diatribe and other intercontrafibulations!

Don’t know if it apples to trucknet but I saw a thing recently that many Internet forums are been used less and less due to Facebook groups on related subjects doing what forums started doing

Agree with that, some previously regular posters on here now use Facebook instead as there are many truck related pages and the same applies to other forums that I use. Far easier to post pics and videos for one thing, only downside is that topics soon get buried under new posts and are often lost forever, plus a lot of repetition occours as well.

Pete.

Not really of interest here, but I have to report that, after belonging to several Fatface haulage-related pages, my Fatface account seems to have been closed. No explanation, just can’t use it any more.

I tried Facecrap a few years ago, the verbal excreta had me uninstalling the whole thing within a couple of days. TNUK is not perfect but, I still look in several times every day. In particular at Paul Gee’s thread. It is fantastic!! By the way look at the date this thread was started by Bewick, 2013!!! If it’s waning its taking a long time to die :imp: :imp: :imp: Like everything of interest it has its ups and downs. I haven’t contributed many photos lately due to my dislike of our latest PC, I’m now using my kindle to post pics so I may be making more of a contribution to TNUK, but I have no interest in rejoining Facecrap. Regards Kev.

Maybe some of us are spending too much of our spare time watching Blackadder    . And here’s a “like” to your contributionalintrestationalpostifications Franky

I think it’s inevitable that forum traffic will decline with the increased use of social (so-called) media - I can count 6 forums I’ve been involved with (7 if I include this one) where involvement has gone off a cliff in the last decade. I also think that as more members of older generations pass it’s much less likely that in-depth analyses and recounting of tales will be written, which itself results in much less thoughtful reaction - assuming, that is, that ever-decreasing attention spans allow the reading of them.

Conversely, if some would rather have their bandwidth sucked up by Facek or Snapt or S**tify or Twtter (and all the endless spam those platforms engender), good luck to 'em.

I have noticed that a lot are using facebook and other media sites lately. :frowning:
