I believe that his mind is made up so in which case rather than making it harder I say once more I wish you all the luck in the world, I hope it works out for you Neil46.

lady,it’s not that we are trying to make things harder for neil,we all wish him the very best and a safe journey.we are just trying to get him to see the harse reality’s of life over there in iraq.take it from someone that’s been over there lady

Jim mate, I know what you are saying but maybe it is time to own up!
I am planning to go in january for many reasons, I have thought about it. I have applied and I am going to wait till after christmas and if I can’t give a good enough reas if on to stay then I am gone. I have no family to speak of, I am truly sick to death (Yeah I know) with the [zb] of the british politics and pc attitude that is creasing an industry that gave me a stable home as a child I am proud of my trucking heratige but feel that I am selling myself down the creak with what we put up with. We are getting huge hits and replies on a thread about smoking in the cab, because that is what things have come too.
I took my artic through rural Shushstoke the other day because a woman and her friend were dead in their car while her 10 year old son called for his mum whilst lying on the fast lane carrageway at Corley with two broken legs, for god’s sake that kid in the tanker was 29.
I am sure that Neil has thought it through just as I have and I wish him well and if I see him there the beer’s on him.

I wish him well, but really fear for his safety and there is nothing wrong with that.
Lots of people are attracted buy the chance to earn big bucks. People get killed in accidents every day, but they are not deliberately targeted by murdering thugs whos sole intention is to kill as many foriegners as possible or take them hostage before beheading them on TV.

Get there and back in one piece Neil

I know what your saying Pat , it just feels to me that at least Neils way there is a reason for the danger.

hi lady, trust me when i say to you that what you have to deal with now will be nothing compared to what you will have to put up with over there.you are entering a country full of hatered for the british, american etc.you will not know who to trust you are making yourself a target for these terrorist’s by working for transport company’s delivering frt to american depots.living with the thought that you might not return and not knowing what is ahead of you from day to day.travelling up msr’s ( main supply route’s) knowing that it could be your last trip  sad though it is,you will see alot worse than a 10 year old kid shouting for his mother over there, but i guess no matter what i or anyone else has said neither you nor neil will change your mind on this matter.personnelly i think that you’s a both mad   i did not have a choice in the matter when i was sent to iraq, and if i had i would not have went.but you have that choice, and after everything that has been on tv ie mr.bigley + the american’s who you know where be-headed,and now we have the aid worker.a lady that is married to an iraqi and have lived there for 30 years.you are seen as easy bait and maximum pubilishity a target that has no way of defending yourself, can’t speak the lingo and in the hands of murderers.i could go on for ages on this but i won’t.i wish you and neil well on this trip and hopefully you will change your mind.just have a thought for a moment, the person(s) that you spoke to down the phone about this probably have never been in the situation that you and neil are going to be in.they are paid to recruit people who are willing to put their lives on the line and that is what you are doing,so please don’t listen or believe all the bs that they tell you and ensure that you do plenty of research b4 commiting yourself into something that you can’t get out off.good luck and please take care.oh and with regards to the beers, make sure that you’s have a good session b4 you go out there as it will be your last till your return.

Ladytrucker679:
I have no family to speak of

I thought you had two youngish kids?

Paul

I have spoke to them about it, they are used to me being away they live with their dad and have lives of their own.

Thanks Kitkat, like I say I am giving myself until January

they are processing my visa at the moment should be going end of november

Ladytrucker679:

yes but they still love their mum   there’s a big difference between them knowing that mum is working in and around uk and abroad to france germany etc,but as soon as you mention iraq it’s a whole new ball game.kids are not stupid nowadays, they know what’s going on around the world better than some of us adult’s.lady i’m biting my tongue here preventing me from saying the wrong thing from fear off hurting you or offending you which i don’t want to do.but you said earlier that you ain’t got no family  now to find out that you got two young kids it bring’s it home a little more.are you being a little shelfish here or wot,are you staying to january just to get xmas&new year out of the road then your off  so as you don’t feel guilty.anyone that would volenteer to go to a war zone and leave their family just to say i’v been there, well sorry it’s wrong and it’s selfish and down right dangerous.some people place their job b4 their family,i used to do that but soon realised that the work will be there long after i’m away from this world,so spending wot time i can with my wife and kids is important to me,not putting my life in the line of fire.been there, done that, got the t-shirt,video and it wasn’t optional.

I have to say that i agree with KitKat, like him when my mate was there recently they were natural targets for obvious reasons, but they also had weapons for protection but you’re talking about a nation of people of all ages that have been brought up surrounded by weapons so don’t really fear them too much, he was in the RLC (Royal Logistics Corps) and met a few of the civillian drivers from different nations, their one aim was to earn as much money as possible for their families and go home, but one thing that sticks in my mind from what he said and when i was there (first gulf war) these guys looked like they aged 10 years over night. Tired, worn out, scared and just wanting to go home.
I truely wish you all the luck in the world and pray you come back home ok.

TIP 1: take a visit to your local army surplus shop and get yourself a flak jacket/bullet proof vest, they should issue you with one but get an extra one to sit on, unfold it sit on half and have the other half behind you legs, lost many freinds to land mines.

TIP 2: as you drive along never look someone in the eye, never stop looking ALL around you especially behind you and never ever trust anyone, other than those you have been introduced to, even young children and women.

And dont expect sympathy when your on TV about to have your head taken off.

For information Baseplate Baghdad

I’m not asking for [zb]ing sympathy for crying out loud Gurner.
Kitkat and Richiessex I am giving myself till January because of the kids. They are settled with a beautiful home and a great step mum. And their real mum is no futher forward I still have amazing debt’s from the divorce and these weeks off sick I had to line up a buyer for my horse to cover the bills but he has failed the vet so now I’m really in the [zb]. I was made redundant from the job I liked so I am back to square one. I’m the one who pays £200 per month child maintenance, for god sake I’m still paying a loan that was in my name for his central heating. When I do see the kids I can’t afford to take them to the pictures. There dad takes them to Italy for there holidays and they get a week in a curtainsider with mum.
Selfish yes I agree, running away yep I will give you that one too but I am struggling to be the poor relative that borrows her kids for a couple of hours every other weekend instead doing it this I will either have the cash to help them through college or they will have the cash to get through college on their own.

Its not a job I personaly would go for but, horses for courses, and although I would never encourage anyone who is thinking of going, once their mind is made up then its my belief that we should support them and hope we all have some great stories to read when they come home!

Good luck to anyone who has decided to go, and dont forget to bring the stories home for us all at TruckNet to read!

right let me try and explain with some of the reasons i am going.

firstly i am over 65k in debt.

secondly this country is going to the dogs for various reasons.

my family understand my reasons including my kids although they are not happy about it.

if i survive i can pay off my debts and begin to give them a better life than they have now.

if i dont survive they will get enough money to have a better living.

i have got to take the chance

If you are 65k in debt and have no assets ie house, then id suggest looking at going bankrupt rather than going to a warzone and possibly leaving your children to grow up with no father.
Your choice, just my opinions.

Things aren’t always that simple Gurner.

Ladytrucker679:
Things aren’t always that simple Gurner.

Which is why i said if you have no assets, for example you are renting your house, then bankruptcy is a good option.
At the grand old age of 28 i declared myself bankrupt 3 months ago as i have never been good with money and had 35k worth of credit card debts.
What have i lost? nothing, i dont own my house, the car is my wifes, and come august next year i will be discharged from bankruptcy and thats the end of it along with 35k of debt.
In my personal opinion, putting yourself on the line like this for debt is ridiculous, there are various ways out of debt and no court in the land would make you pay more than you can afford, even if it was a pound a week.

It seems we’re all very selfish, all it comes down to is money money money (we must get that from the Yanks, strange how their culture has infiltrated ours over time). I’ve been in debt, i still owe a lot of money, if they can catch up with me hehehe, but at the end of the day, it’s all about materialistic things. A couple of months ago I was in a car accident, I could have died if the horse had made a bigger dent in my roof, and if i had been doing more than 20mph. (BTW this was a freak accident and not my fault) another story another time. However, like I said at the time, I came out of it with barely a scratch, and thank god ( if there is one ) that I’m still here, the material things can be replaced, debts can be got rid of, but we cant.

Ok you only live once, so If anyone wants to go to Iraq, fair play, I must admit I thought about it for all of 2 seconds. But its not my war and I aint putting my life on the line for Bush and his poodle Blair, and certainly not for £5000 a month.

If anyone is thinking of going, maybe you should check out certain websites with beheading videos first, to see in full graphic detail what they do to westerners. Margaret Hassan video should be out shorty.

If you want the site address IM me.

take it easy out there
