also what do you do if you divert off your route , say like take a wrong turn , accident , that sort of thing ,

France and Benelux (as well as a few others) still use the Vignette, which has only a time limit, no route restrictions.
The Maut manual system does pick a route for you, not sure how you deal with diversions…

belgium, holland lux for vignette
germany now toll collect machine in window or plan route beforehand at border if you change route or need new route all services on motorway have machines but mobile bag vans take photos so be careful
denmark vignette
austria go box in window
france as normal but planning to change to toll collect system next year
spain drive where you like!!!
italy via card is cheapest or tag for tolls

Allikat , we do not have a Vignette, in France, yet 
But I’m sure Sarkozi is working on the idea

Hungary, Daily road tax, for using motorway network.
Solvenia, Tolls on motorways.
bloke in our traffic office had some news letters over xmas and new year from DGT like uk ministry saying french were considering same system as germany where machine in cab tracks your route on all roads and charges accordingly.
also DKV offering tags for all countries and don’t charge vat on invoices cos they claim it back directly saves a bit of money for smaller operators
as far as hungary and rest wouldn’t know simply cos only do real europe not communist flip flop and socks bit
