How would u go about this

Wheel Nut:

Grahamy:
I see the last 2 posters are model drivers for any company, So you just bend over and take it up the ■■■ if it keeps your boss happy do you. The OP stated that he had done a 13 hr shift, is that not long enough. Why should he be spoken too like that after doing a full days work. I know i would’nt like it & i bet you two would’nt either

He shouldn’t have been spoken to like that, nor should he turn round, name him, or rip his head off. I bet his contract doesn’t limit his shift to 13 hours. I reckon it will say something along the lines of, "your operating base is somewhere, your hours of work are, Due to operational difficulties, it may be necessary to ask you to deviate from these times, etc.

Ideally when he took the phone call at 3pm he could have explained that he would be happy to come in at 4 but had to be home before 5am as the missus needs the car or the rabbit needs feeding.

contract does say something along them lines but something i didnt mention before is that he was pushing me to get this job done which would have put me into a 15 hr day possible over and yet there were other lads a lot closer to the job than i was goin home after a 10.5 hour shift so im sorry i aint running to the limit just because someone in the office has failed to notice other drivers in an area that i had to drive over an hr to get to

What happened to Long Distance truck driving

if i get a distance run then thats fine i know im gonna be on a longer day than normal plus id rather do distance than local it was more about the way i was spoken too as i belive no one has the right to speak anyone in that way no matter who you are or what u do plus id done a 13 hr day without the extra drop in my book thats long enough for me the extra 2 hrs are for hold ups breakdowns bumps on the motorway ie it gives u a bit of breathing space to get back

What is the problem cliffton? You won the argument didn’t you!! :unamused: The planner is obviously struggling to cover his workload and asked if you would cover a Job for him and you said No! If the fella swears at you then front him at Stoke and ask him to repeat what he said to your face!

It’s how it is until they get on top of the workload fella!! When you front the ■■■■■ I bet he won’t say it again! :grimacing: It’s been easy for them and us for a while! Now the work is getting on top of them they pay the price for their bad attitude by refusing to cover their ■■■!!

Rob K:
It’s YES men like Baby1 that are the cause of all this, doing their 100 hour weeks and happy to constantly bend over and be shafted by whatever the office chumps want, [zb] the poor wife and kids off, job’s more important. :unamused: It’d be him that’ll be posting on here in the future about [zb] his life is because his wife has left him and taken the kids as well. Thick as [zb] some people. :unamused:

You stick to your guns cliff. Say no more about it unless he brings it up or there’s a repeat performance. We all have our bad days when it seems the entire [zb] world is against you, maybe that’s what the guy was going through. Still no use to launch into you, especially as he hasn’t been man enough to apologise for it afterwards, but I say let it go this time and just hope it doesn’t happen again.

I’ve walked off a few jobs for TMs trying to take the ■■■■ and don’t regret doing it. Some on here take the ■■■■ out of me for going through so many jobs but [zb] them, I won’t be walked all over. I walked off the job at Archbold’s when Higginbottom sent me down the road for 3 overnights without any night out gear. Put up with it first 2 nights (very reluctantly - was in middle of London in the height of summer) but then he went and planned me a 3rd one as well, despite promising me time and time again that he had a load back north for me for the past 2 days. He thought I was bluffing when I said I’d be coming back bobtail from Southend to Leeds. He got a shock next morning when he saw me in the yard…

Similar thing happened with Bedford’s as well. Long story short, they expected me to break the law and do an 18 hour day. Then a few days later they expected me to drive from Leeds to Sheffield grossing 48 tonne and Dave ™ didn’t see what the problem was as “you’re only going down the road”! That was the last time I worked for them.

how did i know billy the bender would get involved,IVE DONE THE no bit plenty of times in the past, and lost good jobs over it,i was always egged on by little red robboes like you, they loaded the bullets, i fired them,as you get that little bit older and wiser you learn its best to let the loaders fire the bullets, just turn up,do job, go home, amazing though billy how when it commes to firing them there normally very shy :unamused: :unamused:
as for my job now i dont need to say no,i know the job like the back of my hand,if its collect B instead of A so what, its just another stretch of road,if its 15 hrs, night out ,so what.
as for wife leaving with kids, shes my g.f,the kid is mine,my girls stuck with her dad for 20 odd years so ive no doubt if the g.f upped and went my girl would stay with me[even though youd like to believe different,as for the g.f,she new the score when we met, shes stopped around[better the devil you know],so id guess shell stick around,if she doesnt, well plenty of fish in the sea for some of us    p.s

ok so i get a phone call just before 3pm asking me to come in an hr earlier than normal ( 4pm ) id just got out of bed an live 12 mile from work but managed to get in first drop in goole then over to bardford for a pick up then down to fradley park to drop it after takin all breaks etc i get to fradley for 130am managed to drop and swap the trailer and im ready to head off for 2am i rings office to say im heading back they have ideas of sending me on another job after a chat he changes it to one a bit closer but it still i would have been pushing it to get it done in 15 an would have to have taken another break after informing the office the responce i got was this … JUST GO BACK TO THE YARD AND SHUT THE [zb] UP followed by a slammed phone
while i was happy to b going home i was fumming about being sworn at i dont swear at ppl an dont expect to b spoken too like that by anyone especially as i had done em a favour an still did a 13 hrs shift aside from smashing his face in what would u do im seriously considering putting a greavence and im not the type to go telling over ppl but this i feel was out of order
ps sorry its so long

First of all, do you think that it would’ve happened if the phone call had to be made at 3am rather than 3pm to get you in an hour early, I doubt it, so that’s strike one, strike two was the bloke gobbing off down the phone, strike three should’ve happened in the car park when you smacked the ■■■■ in the eye :imp:

I know violence isn’t the answer, especially today, you’ll end up in the clink for giving someone a right hander, but just a few years ago that ■■■■■■ would never have dreamed of talking to a driver like that, because there was a good chance that he would end up on his arse if he did, now they know you can’t lamp em, so they gob off without worrying about the consequences :unamused:

im sorry clifton but i get sick and tired of drivers not wanting to do this, that or anything to be honest, youre paid to work :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: ,the job is not/or never has been 9-5 even though alot seem to think it is,ive always said the same thing to ex,s,g.f,daughter,ILL SEE YOU WHEN I SEE YOU,how can you be tired, you sleep for 3/4/5 + hours in the day while your waiting for a collection,i mean i struggle to sleep some nights as ive had my share of kip in daytime.
as for swearing at you, mine dont swear at me to be honest, but then they know as long as its legal i do it,but they always say thanks mate, owe you one, i find its best to turn up,do job, keep quite and go home, anything for a quite life

there u go from my op i states that id have been pushing to get it done in 15 if the last drop they wanted me to go on had no empty trailers i would have ran out of time n in as the office did not know if there was any emptys they are technicly planing me out of time which last time a checked was not allowed as for sleeping on the bunk not often i get to sleep when bein tipped its either live tip / load or hand your keys in an sit on some god awful steel chair for 3 hrs

i understand what your saying clifton but did you tell them at your interview you wanted to be home every night and you only want to do 12/13 hrs per night, the reason i ask is i hear the same every day,i only want 10 hrs per day,i dont want any o/t,i dont want multi drops,i dont want early starts,i dont want late starts,i have to be back by 12 a.m to pick mrs up from work etc, etc, when i ask them did they bring all this up on interview the answers always NO, but 2 mins after theyve arrived they want the firm, the other drivers to fit in around them.
its not a dig at you,its just i get fed up hearing drivers whove took the job ,wanting it changed 2 mins later to suit them.if drivers dont want nights out, long nights 15 hrs then tell them at interview stage, youll probally not get job,but then youll not have a problem over doing nights out,and planners swearing at you.

i get what your saying pal it is annoying and i aint like that i do a good day/nights work an go home im not a tramper so unless asked the day before il never do a night out and il do a 15 if needs be but this job could have seen me run out of time and i run out of time for nobody these days i spent to long in the past sat on services waiting to get picked up etc i just wont do it anymore the penny dropped a while back that if i cant get it done an back in time ■■■■ the drop an come home an thats how i work these days its my prerogative to be in my house once my shift has finished not sat on services waiting to be picked up thats just my view though

Clifton,I think if you feel that strongly about it then see your manager,Paul isn’t it at Trafford??
I’ve had a run in with him before,he came across the yard one day to have a go at me and I tore a strip off him too,the result was that me and him had a lot more respect for each other because we both said our piece and went on our merry way.
Sometimes the job gets to the planners, especially on nights as there short staffed and have lots of other things to do,me,I’d not take it personally and just let it go but if he did it again then I’d mention it to someone.
When I was at hams hall and our trucks were in for mot,we had to sit next to our planner and see what he had to put up with off drivers,it was a good experience as I could have easily told some of the drivers to ■■■■ off with some of the stupid questions they were asking!!
At the end of the day,Stobarts is a general haulage company and sometimes things don’t go the way you want them too,it’s called transport and me personally,if you want to only work 60 hrs a week then you should have perhaps chose another company to work for.
Btw I thought you said you hadn’t got a lot of experience but wanted to get some??,well you’ve certainly come to the right place to get some as everyday is an “experience”!!!

the big bald planner from appleton looks like he could be a bit of a handful, but he`s past his prime i reckon,so get stuck in

Any pics, I love big bald men?

Good on you Clifton for getting it all sorted with him face to face.
We all have our share of bad days( or nights) so at least it’s all behind you now.
I’ll have to keep an eye out for Paul at Appleton,he’s a decent chap.

Methinks you are a doppelganger pal!

having been driving class one for thirty years first bad experience i had was with a planner swearingon the phone to me i said dont ■■■■■■ speak to me like that and banged down the phone he appoligised soon as i got back and nevver insulted me again from what ive learned in this industry is the more you do the more they expect i just tell them a straight no i see many drivers being used like a visa card ill do that then they complain about how many hours there working when i have early finishes there still racing about up and down the motorways

That’s him,I didnt know he’d gone over to the international.

yea mate he took me on about 2 month ago went off on perternity leave then i only ever seen him once after that  but from my dealings with him he seemed like a good lad he been on inernational for about a month i did here he used a few lads from trafford for an f1 job how true it is i dont know

Sounds about right mate,it’s always been not what you know but who you know here.
If it’s any consolation to you, when I started here it took me a good year to get to grips with the job and whether I liked it or not.

i hated it for the first week or so started to think i made a mistake leaving my last place but a few more week in and im settling in quite well n starting to enjoy it think its a culture shock when u leave a place u know very well and start somewere else with new faces new procedures etc
