How not to overtake

The vast majority of Eastern European drivers I’ve come across in the UK or Europe, whether driving their own trucks or working on British trucks in Britain have being perfectly fine and good drivers and they almost always have a better work ethic than is becoming the British norm. The only nationality from eastern Europe I’ve really got any concerns about are the Russians but even then its by no means all of them. The Russians I regularly came across in Germany were just as competent as anyone else, you wouldn’t know they were Russian if it were not for the ‘RUS’ stickers, its not like they were causing chaos and carving the road up. However, there seems to be a different breed of Russian that moves to and works in Canada and the USA and some of what I’ve seen here is truly shocking and not that far removed from the video in question in this post. I’ve personally worked at companies here in Canada that due to the industry wide driver shortages (thats another story) they’ve brought in a batch of Russians or Ukranians and while the odd one of them was alright, most of them were downright dangerous and end up smashing the truck to bits at best or rolling it over completely at worst. One of them I worked along side briefly actually rolled the truck over in the driver training simulator at his previous firm and they refused to keep him on, so my company eagerly set him on and sent him down the road the next day. None of this matches up with the old school very professional drivers I’ve seen and met driving Russian trucks in Europe, but it certainly does match the thousands of videos seen on youtube from Russian dash cams.
The problem everywhere is that too many drivers these days are basically nothing more than car drivers who’ve managed to pass a class 1 test but still carry on as if they’re in their cars. You see it in Britain with British drivers, where due to somewhat better driving standards than some other places the consequences aren’t as dire, they just ■■■■ you off more than anything. In the US car drivers are terrible and as a result many of their truck drivers also are and we only have to look on youtube at the Russian videos or speak to people who have been there to see what their standards are like. When you have people who are truck drivers because they want to be, who enjoy their job and do it with pride, they tend to do it well and are personally invested in the job. When you have people who come in to the industry purely for the money but basically like nothing about the job and just tear about like arrogant pigs to do nothing more than draw a wage and go home, you have this situation we have now where terrible driving and a total lack of manners and respect for others is becoming the order of the day.

+1, an excellent post.

(…)People are better educated here(…)

I not sure about that, I would like to quote again the polish guy I just mentioned earlier, he wrote:

Education. I admit that, my stepson is not the brightest star in the galaxy. Or wasn’t. Until he came here. From the worst student in his class, he stepped up to one the best in his year. While knowing nothing. I know, I’ve been testing his knowledge before his GCSEs. The kids here do not have to do anything. They have almost no requirements. They do not have to improve. They seem to have no concept of self-improvement at all! A girl from my stepson’s class was saying that she doesn’t have to learn, as she will finish the school, will have a baby, and will get money and housing from the council.

I heard this from different parents, who came to the UK from Eastern Europe. If you can’t belive it, ask your teacher friends on facebook.

Malky80:
(…)I believe the driver in the video was eastern European(…)

Yes, others mentioned that he has a non UK license, and that means he has an EU license, probably from Eastern Europe.

It’s insane to suggest this is a mistake. The man is a pure [zb]. << Starts with C, ends in UNT.

Soon, your post will be moderated, like just my one xDDD

Big thumbs up !

Honked:
Please, think of the children!

They are our future truckers.

PS. I don’t think anyone has mentioned speed. Even assuming that the webcam vehicle was doing 40 mph, that overtaker came by very quickly it seemed to me… Robert :open_mouth:

I agree but, I think you have a scenario like the NHS with doctors and nurses where just not enough competent people exist to meet demand.

the driver as we know made a royal ballsup of overtaking etc, though its possibly not hard to imagine some frustrating road range having to follow 67 year old conrad in his campervan at an alledged 45mph.so who would know what speed he was doing?..weve all been there having to sit behind some plobber in a camper …oooohh look, theres a sheep…isnt that a nice tree…ooohh look, theres a skinny sheep,no its not,its a goat…ooohh look, theres a flock of cows…its herd of cows says wifey irene…of course ive heard of cows, says conrad…theres a flock of them over there…
that trucks going mental behind us trying to get past…its 40mph for them, and im doing the limit…none shall pass,in fact 35 will be fast enough for you matey boy says road commander conrad the 67 year old myopic fanny…couldnt that be more like it■■? though icland man did bollox up the 2nd manouver
once again,it makes good reading for the tabloids with a lopsided view of trucks.no doubt itl be another mountain out of a molehill scenario with plob now because some plobbers got a dashcam.

I’m sorry Dd999 but how can you possibly defend what was an utterly moronic piece of ■■■■ poor steering wheel attendance?

At the very least there’s no getting away from the fact that he nearly wiped those people out in a head on.

The bloke deserves to be royally binned.

Probably the most moronic post i will read this year. Why defend the indefensible? Police scotland are on the case . Hope he gets caught ,jailed and banned from driving for a long time.

I recently purchased a new dashcam and have already sent 3 recordings to the police and 2 of them were HGVs acting like morons. I will continue to send the police my footage of dangerous driving ect ect

If the police are now involved, there is no doubt that at some point in the future the TC’s will be calling this chap up to have a quick chat, a cup of tea and discuss the future direction of his chosen career.

Think back a couple of years ago when dashcam footage of an Arclids DAF was posted showing it pushing a little Peugeot up the A1 :open_mouth: The driver was eventually summoned to appear in front of the Senior Traffic Commissioner, Beverly Bell, who had reviewed all available film footage and other evidence. The driver was commended by Ms. Bell for his professionalism for bringing both vehicles to a contolled stop on the hard shoulder without anyone sustaining any injuries. It emerged that the car driver was at fault as she had pulled straight off the sliproad towards lane 2 instead of lane 1 consequently being spun by the nearside front corner of the DAF.

Now I don’t think the Iceland/DHL driver in this dashcam footage is going to be commended when he goes to his little tea party, he will more than likely have his vocational entitlement suspended for a period of time deemed appropriate by the TC, also by this time he might already have been prosecuted through the criminal courts for driving offenses the police/CPS might file against him. As far as I’m aware vocational entitlements can only be revoked by the appropriate licensing authority in this case the Traffic Commissioner.

Bet you would have been cracking one off at the side of the road silly if you had caught this footage eh?

Is trying to catch folks bad driving on dashcams the new ‘‘train spotting’’?

Honest to god just join the police if you want to catch wrong uns

If it weren’t for modern technology the world would have known nothing about this sorry incident, then we wouldn’t have had a big discussion and maybe the former driver for Iceland might have killed someone before his driving was actually curtailed by the authorities. We already have a surfeit of non-events that are supposed to be dangerous and aren’t even interesting appearing from dashcams but this one was noteworthy.

For some reason, during a pretty sleep-free, flu-full night the other night, the thought popped into my head that this incident is the inverse of the typical recklessly overtaking car driver frustrated by the slow HGV in front and I wondered if, what with this forthcoming increase in speed for HGVs being allowed on such roads, that this particular type of incident might increase, rather than the presumed reduction in hazardous overtakes. Probably not.

dashcam police !!!
