How far?

Rob K:
Can’t believe so many people travel such huge distances just to go to work and back. :open_mouth: By the time you’ve factored in your fuel costs, wear and tear on your vehicle plus the time involved, you’ll be lucky to be earning £5 per hour overall. :unamused:

My shortest commute was 15 feet - bedroom to office - the kettle was further away.

My longest was 150mile round trip, M.K. to Dagenham daily but at £32.50 ph and able to claim the travel as a legit expense, even that was worthwhile.

Needs must when the devil drives.

I do up to 300miles a week depending on how many nights out i do
I have a Seat Toledo 2.0 FR diesel if we are quiet the boss will let me have 20 litres of diesel as long as i sign for it

Hi all.i’m cheating a bit as i don’t live in the uk but thought it would be interesting to compare how the companies work.Ilive in swedish lappland above the arctic circle and drive a 50 ton tipper 1km underground in an iron ore mine.i travel 90kms to work each day.i work 2weeks then have 1week free.i drive a mitsubishi 4x4 diesel pickup[most people drive diesels up here the reason for which i shall explain]most companies have a system to help drivers defray travelling costs.you can have diesel from the company.this is without vat.you can have it taken from overtime which is even cheaper.some companies will even give free diesel,[go and fill up when the caterpillar fills up]the system here is based on so much work with heavy machinery that most companies lose the travelling diesel with the big machines.this is done partly because so many people live in the country plus they have a chronic shortage of labour so you keep people happy.also you can claim tax rebate for travelling each year.

47mpg @ 50mph in a high performance car, thats good. Why don`t you just refer to ure car as a make or model though? Is it a diesel audi R8?

:stuck_out_tongue:

I do holiday cover some times i work out of teeside and other times i work out of hull teeside is 10 miles travel but when i go to hull i get paid 40p a mile ish. this week no one on holiday so stay at home on pay  happy days

He wouldn’t have an r8 if he’s a truck driver. More likely to be a fiat panda

No, that’s what you drive.

So, you’re saying you get 47mpg out of an Integra Type - R■■?

L O L

Also, when did 60 x 5 (300) costing £50 / week become 47mpg?

Also, insurance on an integra type - R compared to a panda or whatever, the difference in that alone would cover the fuel costs for the week.

I drive what I want to drive, how I want to drive it and pay whatever it costs without worrying about it, not cause I’m rich or well off, just because it’s the choice i make - currently an Audi A6 if anyone cares, but have used a pug 205, a scenic, an rx-7, citroen turbo’s (petrol and diesel), safrane 3.0 v6, saab 2.5 v6 etc etc etc.

Probably the best car I’ve had for fuel was an old Nissan Sunny 2.0d that did about 45mpg but ran on anything I put in it lol

Andrew Leitch:

Nice car, seems to be on Japanese plates!

It’s an 18 mile trip to the yard from where I live, I drive an old 3 litre carlton which costs me about £10 if I’m out all week and about £40 if I’m coming home every day. It’s a juicy old thing when you boot it but it cost me £250 six years ago, is reliable and practical being an estate. Buying a modern more economical car would probrably work out more in costs than it would to keep the old girl going.

According to Honda a Integra Type-R will 40.9mpg tops being a 1.8 VTEC and insurance group 18

Wrong again monkey boy!

I find it hilarious that you lot are so interested in what car I drive. Obviously nothing better to do with your time. :unamused:

lol if you say so been done that grown up

masetheace:
i do a 29 mile round trip daily, totnes to heathfield ind est, newton abbot. going to work at 5am is a doddle straight through newton no probs, coming back i go via buckfastleigh which is 2 miles longer but a lot quicker in rushhour!

if you can stand the horrendous traffic problem newton abbot has it may be ok, possibly try going through the compton back lanes to ipplepen and then out to the a38 at heathfield to get to m5. i reckon you would need to be generous with you travelling time to work though as im sure you dont want to be late for work if the traffic situation gets really bad, at least you can get home quick in the morning though.

My misses lives in Paignton and i often finish work around 3pm - school kicking out time and I wont go anywhere near torbay/ newton till at least 6 when rushhour has calmed down a bit!

We are thinking of moving to Exmouth which would give me a 44 mile round trip every day, but a decent set of roads would mean it doesnt really take me any longer to get home, than it does to totnes now, as totnes is a nightmare for traffic too.

You knoe the problem I have only too well then! Wish I had a job at Heathfield!, straight through compton on the back road through newton and I would be there  , Paignton is a pain in the ■■■ for getting anywhere from!, The thing is I love the area and the misses works on the way to Brixam and she dont drive so we need to be on a bus route,
Lorry Driving jobs are far and few between down this way but something will turn up

Web forums never cease to amaze me…there are actually people out there who are prepared to spend considerable time and effort arguing that black is white.

This is so apt for this forum. :unamused:

I travel Corby to Northampton (Brackmills) Mon - Fri, for a 9-5 job. So does the rest of Northants it seems! :unamused: However, the job (mainly) and the pay is worth it so I put up with the 1h10m journey (at its worst) each way, even though it should be more like 35 - 40 mins.

I’m probably going to get another motorbike for the commute as my current one is more of a show bike and isn’t suited to that journey. Just the excuse I needed to get another bike . . . . . . . :sunglasses: :sunglasses:
