35 miles of crap roads so an hour but I only go on a Mon and come back on a Fri. Wouldnât go more then 30 mins on day work.I could handle that or even if it was just a couple of nights out a week it would be a bit more insentive tot driving there and back everyday,
The only reason im thinking about even taking the job is the fact that it pays 27k a yearIm still tempted!
27? Hmm, not being funny but I would not be doing what I am doing for anywhere near that. However I dont know what you are doing and know that its frowned upon to discuss wages on here so I wont but is that day work or tramping? Day work I could understand but tramping?
I still wouldnt do it even for day work unless it paid really really well but I guess each to their own

1/2 mile for me. Can see the harbour from my house.
bet you still take the car down with you.

Canât believe so many people travel such huge distances just to go to work and back.By the time youâve factored in your fuel costs, wear and tear on your vehicle plus the time involved, youâll be lucky to be earning ÂŁ5 per hour overall.
Some of us donât have a right lot to choose from. Nearest decent work round here is Carlisle (35 mile e/w) & Penrith (40 mile e/w). Not everyone lives in the glorious south where work is ten-a-plenty.

Move then. Wait⌠Too simple that isnât it.
Easier to moan about it and carry on doing 2hr round trips every day wasting ÂŁ50 in fuel.

It must be amazing working a thousand miles away like you do you are my hero

How far do you guys travel too and from work? The reason I ask is I have been offered a job working nights (6-5) but the only thing thats putting me off is the fact its 39 miles away!
If it was day work with a couple of nights out a week it would be a lot better on the petrol and not having to travel back and forth every day.Any thoughts?
I travel a 50 mile round trip to workâŚthe money aint that great but at the end of the day its a job (i dnt get fuel paid for either).
I put ÂŁ20 of diesel in on a sunday and it last me all week, The roads to work arent fuel consuming
and if i can help it, i avoid the M5 because the M-way seems to drink more fuel.
My car is a [ZB] 2.0 vauxhall vectra DTI, its 100 years old and on its last legs, but as long as it keeps getting me to work, i couldnt care if it was smart car, it does the job.
Its a known fact that the cheap bangers are more reliable than sayâŚyour nice family car that you hope to make an impression with!
4 miles
I have a Polo TDI so i use â â â â all diesel in a whole month

Even though I only do mine once a week I cant face the drive home after a long week so it must destroy your soul after 2 weeks knowing you have still got hours to even get to scotland never mind home

The way I see it is that if I ask an honest question ill get an honest answer and the moneys always one of the biggest factors.
Its night work, Start 6pm and finish around 5-6am the next morning

see if it was a decent airline it wouldnt be soo bad, but its ryanair, now i understand why we fly them so we just put up with it.
but yea me and the other guy flying home yesterday sat from 9am getting readyâŚby half 10 we were sat twiddling our thumbs. went round to wait for the taxi about 1 it didnt arrive till 2, airport by half 3, huge queue for checkin which is soul destroying then the wait in departure for the plane.
the flight home isnt bad but some of the ryanair pilots are wellâŚa lil twitchy with the controls especially when coming into landâŚ
Yeah if the money suits you then fine. I was offered a night job this year on 20k a year Turned it down and went tramping instead. The wages are really crap at the minute in Nottingham though its getting harder to find the well paid jobs as so many work for peanuts just to pay the bills.
Agency driver so distances vary, between 40-70 miles a day, Got a little Skoda Fabia 1.9SDI Diesel and she averages 55mpg. Did a 250mile run a few weeks ago Bracknell-Gatwick-Newark and she did 76mpg.
I have a new job though, and its about 15miles each way, but in a month or so they are moving closer to my house and will be around 5miles each way
South Wales valleys to Cheltenham every 2 weeks not sure of the total mileage never checked it
Hiya âŚA while back before i retired (8 years) i was listening to Steve Wright as you do, some chap come onto
the radio and said thanks for the enrertainment as he drove home from Slough to Portsmouth nightly IICR 93 miles.
then some lady driver come to the radio station and said she did Wybston (Leicester) to Leeds daily at her own
expence.(that M1 is crap M42 passed M18 mornings)Oh well. then some other people come on doing daft things
Kent into the city. A chap (asian) come on and he said he did Low Moor(nr M606) to Tilbury and back each day
to a office job. wow i was,nt doing that milage in my truck yet along a office job inbetween. He chap said he could
give names to varify his distances.
John
Ps I did retire at 52 Iam not an old fâŚt who get things mixed up yet.
i do a 29 mile round trip daily, totnes to heathfield ind est, newton abbot. going to work at 5am is a doddle straight through newton no probs, coming back i go via buckfastleigh which is 2 miles longer but a lot quicker in rushhour!
if you can stand the horrendous traffic problem newton abbot has it may be ok, possibly try going through the compton back lanes to ipplepen and then out to the a38 at heathfield to get to m5. i reckon you would need to be generous with you travelling time to work though as im sure you dont want to be late for work if the traffic situation gets really bad, at least you can get home quick in the morning though.
My misses lives in Paignton and i often finish work around 3pm - school kicking out time and I wont go anywhere near torbay/ newton till at least 6 when rushhour has calmed down a bit!
We are thinking of moving to Exmouth which would give me a 44 mile round trip every day, but a decent set of roads would mean it doesnt really take me any longer to get home, than it does to totnes now, as totnes is a nightmare for traffic too.
I do 100 mile round trip everyday. 57 in and 43 home works out this way as in early hours I use country roads home that are very quiet in the early hours. My car does 49 mpg but does have 216,000 miles on clock. Would sooner do this for agency work than not work at all tho.
About a 5 min walk to yard. Less than 1/4 mile.
I used to do 76 miles per day to my last job at Heathrow Airport, i had a cracking little diesel Peugot very economical and reliable, and the main reason i stayed there was because i enjoyed the job and had made some great friends but Mr Bin Laden and his chums put paid to that, a nice wage and very good pension !!THANKS MATE !!
