How far?

total madness:

OllieNotts:
35 miles of crap roads so an hour but I only go on a Mon and come back on a Fri. Wouldn’t go more then 30 mins on day work.

I could handle that or even if it was just a couple of nights out a week it would be a bit more insentive tot driving there and back everyday,
The only reason im thinking about even taking the job is the fact that it pays 27k a year :unamused: Im still tempted!

are you made, 39 miles each way and your ONLY getting 27k a year

i wish i was soo lucky.

gogzy:
how does…

a 1500 mile round trip sound?

thats what i do

Im betting thats not every day tho

39 Miles each way, but I stay in the truck through the week, even if I’m back at base, there’s nobody else using it, so why waste 80 miles of fuel + time.

If I get a short day and next day isn’t too early a start, then I’ll nip home, but normally I’ll just stay in the truck.

Average for me on day work was around 20 miles each way +/-, did a few more when working in Warrington, but traffic wasn’t too bad going, just coming home.

The firm I been offered work with I think use the lorrys both day and night and I probably wont have the same one every day otherwise that would be ideal,
I like your thinking tho,

Some of it depends on what 39 miles each way…

Like I said, Warrington from Ashton Under Lyne wasn’t bad, but Leeds (where I work now) is a definate no no for everyday travel.

Same distance (ish) but busier side of the M62.

Well my journey would begin in Paignton in glorious Devon and end in Willand near cullompton so most of it is the m5 so,
Its the first 7 miles that can take up to 45 mins to do on a bad day :open_mouth: Thats the real off putter if im honest!

1 of our night men lives to the east of york ( i think its malton but not sure) and travels to featherstone every night, about 90 miles round trip :open_mouth: He runs a new diesel corsa car and recons he gets 70+ mpg out of it  I do 32 miles round trip every night :frowning: and thats enough for me, wouldn’t want to be going any further :exclamation:

For about a year i travelled to Seaforth Dock Liverpool doing 1 night out. Round trip 96 miles, about an hour each way, 2 gallons of DERV.

Previously I travelled 200 miles one way & stayed in digs for 4 days work. (including a weekend)
Used to be worthwhile when diesel was cheaper & wages were better than they are now.

1/2 mile for me. Can see the harbour from my house.

Nice :sunglasses:

When i used to drive the airport coaches out of Oxford we would pick up a guy everyday, take him to Heathrow,he then flew to Munich or koln.He was a pilot for Hapag Lloyd, fly to the Canaries, back to Munich or Koln then back to heathrow every day, free flights to work and about 60k a year, nice work if you can get it,and this was over 12 yrs ago.

i do 100 mile on a mon/sun then 100 mile back on a fri/sat. ive just sold my vectra petrol cos of the cost and im now looking for a diesal car maybe another vectra or similar. its notthe mileage but same as all jobs the price of fuel. :open_mouth:

although the 1/12 traveling does ■■■■ me off.

i travel a 244 mile round trip every day,4 days a week, only takes me 11 minutes to get to work in the mornings (at 4am   )

take the unit home, waste spankys fuel, sure he wouldnt mind :exclamation:

15 minute walk or a 5 minute drive, about couple miles by road. Any extra minutes in bed at half 2 in the morning counts… plus it’s nice hooning it to work in V8 gas guzzler early doors :smiling_imp:

If its all thats about… buy a little cheap diesel motor! Should keep you right at a tank of juice a week in a little punto or 206 or summet.

What he said!

Andrew Leitch:
Last week I left a job which involved a 60 mile round trip every night. I was there 7 months. I was spending £50 per week on Shell V-Power, as I drive a performance car, (which was bought as a weekend toy a few years ago.) I did the

Buy a £500 ■■■■■■ diesel van that does 50 - 55mpg to go to work in. Simples!

Err…no. The figures don’t add up!

£500 to buy the van = 10 weeks worth of Shell V-Power
Another vehicle to tax…costs more money
Another vehicle to insure…costs even more money
Diesel is more expensive than Shell V-Power…so the fuel costs more money
Driving at a steady 50mph I managed 47mpg in my high performance car…just slightly less than the 50-55mpg you claim a diesel van will get

So your cheap £500 ■■■■■■ diesel van isn’t so cheap after all and is more expensive to run for that short period…than my high performance car.

The sums might not add up but if you had a diesel van you could afford to drive at a sensible speed on main roads instead of crawling along at a ridiculously slow speed then come on here crying because the big nasty trucks drive too close. :unamused:

Thats probably the funniest thing about the recession in my opinion. All these guys in performance cars being overtaken by 40 tonne trucks because they can’t afford the ■■■■■■■ petrol. I must pass dozens of the ■■■■■ every week now. They can’t even out accelerate you at traffic lights now incase they use too much fuel. :unamused:

Also, if he’s doing 5 night a week, the figures of £50, 60 miles & 47mpg don’t cross check

At the moment I do a 52ml round trip a day but its from Stafford into B’ham , which must be one of the slowest journeys going! I only use a motorbike for this journey although I could probably get the same fuel consumption from a small diesel car but its more fun freezing your nuts off ! :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Can’t believe so many people travel such huge distances just to go to work and back. :open_mouth: By the time you’ve factored in your fuel costs, wear and tear on your vehicle plus the time involved, you’ll be lucky to be earning £5 per hour overall. :unamused:

Rob,
I started out walking across the road to work but over the years my firm has moved further and further away, think they might be trying to tell me something?
If I had to work hard for a living, I would have jacked in !

But I’m not the one with a small wullie who must overtake everything in sight and drive flat out everywhere trying to prove what a big man I am.

:unamused: :unamused:

BTw, I can afford the petrol…I just don’t like paying more tax than I need to.
